20.01.2022 Monday the 21st of September is World Gratitude Day. With all the craziness in the world, our team thought a small activity from our 2020 Book Week program, from the book Three" by Stephen Michael King, might be nice to bring into the classroom to help integrate the discussion of gratefulness.... The activity is called 3 Things I’m Grateful For: 1. Begin with a Poly Half Circle. Any size will do. This will be your base. 2. Choose 2-3 different coloured sheets of Adhesive Paper. Tear into fine strips. Peel off adhesive backing and stick onto your base to create a colourful collage. 3. Cut 3 lengths of Craft Coloured Wire approx. 10cm long. Use Magiclay and/or Modelling Foam to create 3 decorations for the tops of the wire. Create hearts or stars, or other symbols of positivity or gratitude (you can model directly onto the wire it will self-adhere without the need for glue.) 4. Cut a Tinsel Stem into 3 pieces - at different lengths. Cut 3 strips of Adhesive Paper approx. 2cm wide. Write a message or word on each to represent the three things you are grateful for. Peel back the adhesive backing and fold onto the tip of the Tinsel Stem, creating a flag. Snip the ends for added flair. 5. Pierce the Poly base with a Satay Stick in 6 places. This will help insert your 3 Tinsel Stem flags and your 3 wire decorations into the base. 6. Create a display in the classroom to showcase the things you are grateful for! #zartart #worldgratitudeday #grateful #gratefullness

19.01.2022 In this video we explore the use of paper circuits to create a layered collage artwork which includes an LED light. To begin we create a simple collage using watercolour paper and Koh I Noor watercolour discs. We use A6 size cardboard mounts to create layers and depth in our collage. We paste in our collage pieces to create a small landscape and then create our paper circuit. On the back of our collage we use copper tape to construct our circuit which links to a small LED light and battery. The LED light is poked through the back of our paper collage so that it can be seen at the front of our work. Once everything is connected we create a small paper strip that will allow us to turn our LED light on and off.

07.01.2022 This video Margaret Preston Inspired Paper Flower Collage is great for junior primary to middle primary. Preston is best known for her print making work based on flowers. We create a work based on these aesthetic qualities using bright coloured paper and a black marker. We begin by creating the paper flower shapes as well as a few different leaves. Once we’ve cut these shapes out we outline them in thick black marker to allude to the quality of a lino print. Folding these pie...ces then gives them a three-dimensional quality. The next step is to layer these elements together to create a composition. This paper collage will focus on skills in drawing, cutting and creating an aesthetically pleasing composition. The end result is a bold and bright paper collage that pays homage to the style of Preston’s prints. Simple to achieve using only a few very basic materials, it’s a fun and relatively mess-free art activity to try at home or in the artroom (virtual or otherwise). #zartart #professionaldevelopment
