07.01.2022 I have been away for a little while. Since Eid actually. I didn’t post for Eid because I just couldn’t bring myself to. My memories went back to the time that I visited Gaza, Pa*estine. Growing a baby I have felt so much more emotion and it has been so heartbreaking to know that this is what the Pa*estinians are going through. ... I pray for them, and their families, I pray for peace and for the freedom they deserve. I made these keys when I returned from Gaza, all those years ago but their symbolism never fades. That even though all that physically remains is a key that one day they will be returned to their homes. My jewellery work investigates our relationship with objects and how, through the form of object and jewelry, one retains such strong resonance of memory and place. Jewelry is often the smallest most valuable item one can take if fleeing from home. My works reflect different aspects of preciousness, memory, place and belonging. I participated in an exhibition titled Hummus, falafel, refugees which included a collection of objects I made in response to my time in Gaza. The inspiration for this exhibition started with a humanitarian trip I made to Gaza, Palestine in 2012. These objects are a reflection of experiences of what I saw, how I felt and the people I met. Each keys has symbolism and meaning in the stitching work, colours and imagery. #freepalestine #freegaza #palestine
