Having fair skin, a history of sunburn, simply day to day living in Australia puts us at an increased risk of developing them. 01.01.2022 Q. My skin is quite pigmented, what causes this and how can it be treated? A. Causes range from genetic (freckles that appear from childhood and get darker in summer) to hormonal (blotchy brown patches, often related to pregnancy or the pill that worsen with sun exposure), to the sun damage type of pigment (also called 'sun spots' or 'age spots.) Laser is the treatment of choice for all of the above. If we're talking just a couple of sunspots, they get zapped, darken up for... a week and flake off to leave behind less pigment.
