17.01.2022 Hazard icons across the country have a new consistent look. The new Australian Warning System introduces several changes to the way the community will be notifi...ed about hazards. We're rolling out the first stage of the changes to the Australian Warning System for bushfire in Tassie today. The changes will include the way bushfire warnings are displayed on the TFS website. From today, consistent colours will be used for: Advice (yellow), Watch and Act (orange); and Emergency Warning (red) The icon shapes will also change on maps from diamonds to triangles. While the colours and icons change, the meanings of the levels do not change. The changes are designed to bring consistency to the way warnings are displayed across Australia. Over time more states will use the new colours and icons and they will be used for other hazards like floods and storms. Further changes will occur in Tasmania in 2021, including enhancements to our warning messages. The Australian Warnings System is based on community research and good practice, in terms of what communities recognise and what gets people to take action during an emergency.
16.01.2022 Our Roadmap to Recovery will take everyone to work together and follow the rules so we can slowly rebuild a stronger Tasmania.

16.01.2022 A Fuel Reduction Burn will be conducted, weather permitting: - on Tuesday 17th March - at Lake Pieman, West Coast - of around 2623 hectares, which will take 1-2... days to complete. ___________ Weather permitting, the Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a fuel reduction burn on Tuesday 17th March at Lake Pieman, West Coast, as part of the state-wide Fuel Reduction Program which is aimed at reducing the bushfire risk to help protect lives and communities. The total area of this burn will be approximately 2623 hectares, and is likely to take 1-2 days to complete. Smoke may persist some days afterward depending on wind conditions. During burning operations public access to this area will be restricted. The public is asked to remain well out of the burn site while the burn is taking place and for the following days until safety checks have been made along tracks and trails. Please comply with directions from staff or any signs if you are in the area. While the fire intensity will be low, it will generate flames, smoke and ash. People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke from the burn. Advice is available from the Department of Health and Asthma Australia websites www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/publichealth/air/precautions and https://asthma.org.au/about-asthma/triggers/bushfire-smoke. Current air quality information is also available via the Environment Protection Authority website epa.tas.gov.au//Real-Time-Air-Quality-Data-for-Tasmania.as Further information about this burn is available by contacting the Parks and Wildlife Service on phone 64643008. A map of planned burns is available on the TFS website at www.fire.tas.gov.au/Show?pageId=colWhatsBurningNow

12.01.2022 Little Tilley got more than she bargained for last night when she took a tumble down a 25-metre cliff at Don Heads. Miraculously, her collar snagged on a branch... five metres from the top. Firies from Devonport and Burnie, including vertical rescue specialists, turned Tilley’s ruff day around by performing a very complex and time-consuming rescue. Unfurtunately the pupparazzi didn’t get a snap of Tilley with her rescuers, but by all accounts, she was very happy to be back in the arms of her owner. While it’s not the kind of incident firefighters respond to every day, it was a good oppawtunity for them to hone their skills using an un-fur-gettable real-life scenario.
10.01.2022 Richmond’s 3.1 now has a halo system fitted to help protect our firefighters in the worst conditions.
