18.01.2022 NUT AWARENESS A reminder that NUTELLA is made from hazelnuts and is not to be included in lunchboxes. We have students who are allergic to these products. Peanuts (including peanut butter), walnuts, hazelnuts (including nutella) are alerts (contact with or/and consumption will have a severe effect) and cannot be sent to school.

17.01.2022 VISITING THE SCHOOL The Department of Education (DoE) and Public Health advise that it is now safe for parents and visitors to enter classrooms, however, the following requirements must be adhered to: - Do not enter the school if you are feeling unwell - Maintain a 1.5m distance between yourself and other adults - Keep your visits brief and don’t stay longer than necessary... - Keep hands clean through regular washing with soap and water or hand sanitiser. All DoE sites require visitors that will be on site for longer than 15 minutes to complete a Visitor Health Screening Form. This means that if you require a meeting with a staff member or are coming into a classroom for longer than 15 minutes, you MUST first sign in at the office and complete this form before you will be allowed to proceed. If you are just dropping your child or an item (lunches, spare clothes etc) off or having a quick chat with a staff member, you will not need to complete this form.

14.01.2022 We once again apologise for being unable to stream our End of Year Assembly. We have now been informed that it was not a ZPS internet issue but a DoE issue. Below is an explanation of what occured today. Degradation - Internet Start: Tuesday 15/12/2020 ... Finish: N/A Duration: Ongoing Purpose: DoE are currently experiencing congestion on the internet link for the Department. ITS are working with the service provider to resolve. Impact: All sites may be experiencing poor internet performance.

14.01.2022 16th December 2020 Issue #17 PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Yesterday, we celebrated with our Presentation Assembly. I wish to apologise to our many parents, families and community members that our live streaming was halted by a DoE internet issue. Part of the assembly was recorded and clips are on the ZPS FB page. ... On Monday I spent a delightful three hours with Grade 6 students and ZPS staff at View 42 in Strahan and together we enjoyed a three course meal. I wish all Grade 6 students all the best as they finish Year 6 tomorrow and start their high school journey in 2021. Please refer to our last page where our Grade 6 students are celebrated. The Acting Principal for Term 1 and Term 2 will be Mr Josh Dean (left). Mr Dean is the current Acting Assistant Principal at Rosebery District School. Welcome Mr Dean and I wish you all the best in the role of acting principal. Change is part of life, as I reflect on the journey of the past six years of Principalship, we have achieved a lot and it is not over. While I am at East Devonport Primary School the following renovations/upgrades will occur: - $120,000 spend ($80, 0000 DoE and $40,000 ZPS) with new carpet, paint and electrical work in the Music and Health rooms, new carpet and sink bench in the K/P classroom, new sink in the 1/2/3 classroom and painting of the computer room. The Art room will also receive an overdue upgrade. - $30,000 DoE minor grant for the Stadium to be sanded and varnished with new line markings (January). - ZPS will pay for an upgrade of toilets in the main building (near the Principal’s Office) and in Gowrie Park building (near the 1/2/3 classroom) at a cost of $25,000. - Mr Youd is currently erecting new fencing near the bus shed/carpark and putting up/fixing fencing around the school boundary (near new units and near the stadium) early next year. The School Association is working on a project to improve the oval/ground behind the stadium. It is hoped a set of AFL goal posts will be erected (requested by students), levelled with quality dirt that will grow grass (to hold our Athletics and regional sports events) and be graded so the water does not sit. Reminders: Kinder students are invited to attend school as a normal school day on Thursday (Fun Day) and we will have a special visit from the man in red. Tomorrow (last day of the school year) the Breakfast Club will offer pancakes (8:30-9:15am). We will also have a BBQ lunch (sausages) and in the afternoon a movie and popcorn. I wish students, staff and parents a very happy and enjoyable Christmas and a safe holiday. Shar Principal

14.01.2022 21st September, 2020 Issue #12 PRINCIPAL’S REPORT The Jump Rope for Heart jump off afternoon was lots of fun with students demonstrating a range of skipping skills. This event is held every year to raise money and the students, who donated online, received certificates for their donations raising a total of $1006. We would also like to acknowledge the donations given after the event and we will hand out certificates to those students. Thank you to the parents who attended... and who had a skip with their child. A fun activity that can continue at home as it develops a range of loco motor skills, which are important in every child’s development. Students are requesting daily to be in the garden and we aim to spend a lot of term 4 putting together more garden beds. We will be busy moving the load of pine bark recently received and planting a variety of vegetables. Students just love working with tools moving dirt, mulch and pine bark (small pile near the stadium). Students will need a change of shoes to be in their school bag or in a named plastic bag that is left at school. Due to the mud being accidentally walked into the buildings we have implemented a ‘no change of shoes, no garden’ rule for term 4. At the recent School Association meeting, this year’s leavers dinner expectations for being invited by the Principal and Staff were discussed. Due to COVID-19, for this year only, Grade 6 students must have an attendance rate of 90% or above in term 4, participate in all aspects of their learning program (including our school’s athletic carnival) and not have a suspension. It is a parent’s responsibility to notify the school of the reason that their child/ren is/are not attending and it is to be an authorised reason or medical certificate. Parents of Grade 6 students will receive a letter outlining the expectations in greater detail. This ensures all students have the opportunity to meet the requirements to be offered an invite. If you are having trouble getting your child to attend school, please contact and ask for assistance as the Department of Education has specialist service providers available for support. Please note, it is not an automatic right to attend a Grade 6 leavers dinner. Reminders: - Friday 25th of September - Last day of term and Footy Colours Day ($1 donation). Have a relaxing, sun filled holiday, Shar Principal

14.01.2022 We would like to thank all staff and students for their efforts at the swimming carnival today! Thank you also to Cassie, Lisa and Gunther for cooking our BBQ lunch! Please check what clothing your child/ren has taken home with them today as we had a couple of missing polo tops! If you find clothing/towels that do not belong to your family, please bring them to the office and we will find the owner or place them in lost property. This is a good reminder to please label your child/ren's clothing!

07.01.2022 Mrs Klineberg’s prep to 6 science classes will be exploring the garden and frogs next term for a school-wide inquiry project. Some classes have already come up with creative ideas for making our garden more frog-friendly. As a part of this, we’re encouraging parents to download the free Frog ID app that allows you to record frog calls, send it to scientists at the Australian Museum, and they email back telling you what species you’ve recorded. Scientists want to collect this ...data to learn more about frogs across Australia. These scientists have told Mrs K that they don’t have a lot of information about frog populations on the West Coast, so Zeehan Primary will be doing some ground-breaking science! It’s also a great holiday activity for kids, getting them out in nature while helping to understand and conserve our unique local frog populations. The app also tells you what potential frog species live nearby and allows you to listen to recordings of their call sounds. We already have local recordings of the Tasmanian Froglet, and lots of students are keen to be the first to record the rather funny-sounding call of the Eastern Banjo Frog, a potential West Coast resident. See the attached link for more information about the Frog ID project: https://www.frogid.net.au/ See more

This is why home readers have not been given out yet. This will start from next week, initially with just a home reader and later word work will be added. Thank you for your patience.

05.01.2022 Parents and carers play a key role in preventing and responding to bullying. The first step is learning about bullying. What is it? What isn't it? What's the be...st way to respond? This will help you to talk to your child about bullying and what to do if they experience it. Remember, you should always let your school know if your child reports that bullying is happening at school.
