25.01.2022 Junior player @_ryan.ang_ working hard on his movement and endurance with Coach Vinesy during training this week!! Movement is a key component in performing well in matches, and being able to sustain it over a long period of time is crucial for success in higher level competition and tournaments. It is great to see a lot of our juniors beginning to embrace this idea and wanting to do the tough drills - making yourself tired in practice sucks but if performing well in matches means something to you then it is definitely worth the sweat! #tennis #movement #zenithtennisacademy

25.01.2022 Stage 4 Restrictions in place - Ill be in touch with more information regarding lessons very soon tomorrow (Monday)...stay tuned

24.01.2022 HOME ACTIVITY: Lift Off This activity is for the little ones who are developing the basics of hitting the ball over the net. To be able to rally the ball back and forth, players must first be able to hit accurately and controlled off a stationary ball. - Turn side on to your partner... - Drop the ball out in front (and to the side) - Lift it softly to your partner, so that it lands in front of them - Partner catches the ball and repeats Drop hitting is one of the first progressions to rallying, and is great fun for kids 5+!

24.01.2022 HOME ACTIVITY: Lift and Hit This is a great simple activity to develop a 'soft feel' of the ball, which is an important part of controlling your shots. - Rallying with a partner/parent/sibling... - Must hit the ball to yourself first before playing it back to your partner - Make sure to get under the ball and lift it softly - Keep the ball out in front of your body Every shot in tennis requires good control and feel, even when you want to smack it!

24.01.2022 Entries for club competition closing this coming week. If you would like to play let us know asap if you haven't already.

23.01.2022 Congratulations to our Week 1 Challenge winner Jake Searle! Each week we will create a new challenge, with participants going into a raffle draw to win a 30min private lesson (to be held when lockdown ends). Stay tuned for this weeks challenge, which will be released soon!

23.01.2022 And we are back into our lockdown online conditioning! Of course we would much rather be out on the court than stuck at home, but sometimes all you can do is make the best out of a not-so-good situation. Terrific work by the players who were keen to get straight back into their fitness training - theyre going to be machines by the end of the six weeks!! #tennis #lockdown #fitness #zenithtennisacademy

22.01.2022 Congrats to Danny and Nick who came runners up in their doubles tournament in Mildura over Easter! Also well done to our other players who competed in various tournaments across Victoria over the weekend, with all winning matches in their events.

20.01.2022 Well done to all our Heathmont juniors who played ERT competition this season! From our new players all the way to our most experienced players, it was great to see everyone out there competing hard and developing their matchplay skills throughout the season. Highlighted by great seasons from our Rubbers 8 (champions), Rubbers 7 (runners up), and Boys 1 (runners up) teams. Also, massive thanks to our junior convenor Aidan for his tremendous work organising everything - best junior convenor in all the land!

19.01.2022 Great opportunity for all competition players this December!! With no TA tournaments yet, this is the best way to get some much needed matchplay under your belt. Run locally at HE Parker Reserve by AdvantEdge Tennis

19.01.2022 Christmas Breakup BBQ and Junior Club Champs finals this Sunday from 4pm! Fun games and prizes for kids at about 6pm after finals presentations! All club members and coaching students invited!

19.01.2022 Our Week 2 Challenge winner is Nick Brown, who impersonated Pierre-Hughes Herberts serve! Each week until we can get back into court, well be holding weekly challenges with entries going into a draw to win a 30min private lesson! Stay tuned for Weekly Challenge #3...

19.01.2022 With Victoria now in Stage 4 lockdown, all coaching at Heathmont TC has been suspended from today. This is unfortunate however not entirely unexpected, due to the high number of cases over the past week. We did have a solid 3 weeks of lessons since last lockdown, with many players taking up one-on-one lessons for the first time. It was also great to see some new faces give tennis a go! If we all act responsibly and abide by the restrictions, then we may be back on court within 1-2 short months. In the meantime, stay safe and healthy, and try to keep active at home!

19.01.2022 Return of serve is one of the most important shots in tennis, especially as players get older. If you look at the best players in the world they are often the best returners, able to neutralise an opponents strong serve or take advantage of a weaker serve. Returns are predominantly a reactionary shot, however developing simple clean movement can make it easier to execute. Here @dannyyan_tennis demonstrates the fundamentals through some of our progressions: 1 Split step... 2 Turn shoulders/weight on outside leg 3 Forward movement through contact (like a volley) See more

18.01.2022 Our Week 1 Challenge ends on Sunday, dont forget to send in your best racquet tricks video!! Send in via FB messenger or email [email protected] to go in the running for a free 30min private lesson (when we can get back out on court)!

18.01.2022 Coach Jason with our Weekly Challenge #4! What is your best tennis tip? #tennis #weeklychallenge #zenithtennisacademy

18.01.2022 HOME ACTIVITY: Shadow Movement To hit an effective shot, first you need to be able to get to it, then be in a balanced position. It's very hard to hit a good shot if you can't reach the ball! - Balanced split step to help you push off (any direction)... - 2 or 3 big explosive steps to cover ground - Maintain athletic base before/during/after the shot - Recover after 'hitting' the shot Improving your movement doesn't necessarily need a tennis court- as long as you have 4m of space and are willing to put in match intensity you can keep your movement sharp!

18.01.2022 Wet weather just means we get to practice dive volleys inside! Which one is your favourite? #1, #2, #3, or #4?

18.01.2022 HOME ACTIVITY: Tennis Hockey This fun activity for young kids (aged 5+) develops the ability to control the direction of the ball! - Place 4 obstacles on the ground in a straight line... - Use a racquet to roll the ball along the ground, weaving in between the obstacles - When you get to the end, roll the ball back to the start and shoot a goal - Add a goalkeeper for additional fun! See more

17.01.2022 Fun chat between Djokovic and Murray describing the 'perfect player', discussing who hits each shot the best on tour. Interesting to hear what sort of things they believe are important in making a shot effective...

17.01.2022 Meet our new best friends!! We have become very well acquainted with these guys over the past few weeks, and will get to know them even better as time goes on! All jokes aside, we are very fortunate to still be allowed out on court while most other sports are closed down, so we are doing our best to keep the court a hygienic place to be. It has been awesome to have so many people still out on court (at different times!) with 1-on-1 privates or 2-player groups, with qui...te a few new faces trying out the sport for the first time! Its so important for both kids and adults to stay active while mostly stuck at home, and its great to see them excited when turning up and leaving with a smile! #tennis #lockdown #heathmont #tennisclub #zenithtennisacademy

17.01.2022 Well done to all players who took part in our HTC Junior Club Championships this year, and especially our finalists who competed yesterday and braved the heat. Congrats to 18/u Singles Champions Brad Von Eitzen and Keiley Crook, who will go up on the honour board in the clubhouse as Heathmont TC’s 2020 Junior Champions! 18/u Boys... Champion: Brad Von Eitzen Runner Up: Will Ellis 18/u Girls Champion: Keiley Crook Runner Up: Chloe Connell 15/u Boys A Champion: Leo Wang Runner Up: Christopher Buckingham 15/u Boys B Champion: James Trevillian Runner Up: Kellan Taylor 12/u Boys Champion: Will Trevillian Runner Up: Jake Searle

15.01.2022 Woo Hoo!! And we are back in action!! Lessons are resuming from tomorrow so Ill be in contact over the next day or two to confirm attendance (or let me know asap if keen to get back into it right away). 13.01.2022 HOME ACTIVITY: Lobster Catch Hand-eye coordination is one of the fundamental skills in tennis, and kids as young as 5yrs can give this one a go! - One player is throwing, other is catching... - Let the ball bounce one time - Trap the ball between the 2 racquets (lobster claws!) - Position youself so the ball is waist height when catching See more

11.01.2022 HOME ACTIVITY: Figure 8 Agility Movement is one of the most important skills in tennis, because if you can get into a better position it is easier to hit your shot. It's no coincidence that the best players in the world are usually the best movers. - Place 2 tennis balls on the ground, 1 metre apart... - Weave in between and around the balls, in a 'figure 8' - Maintain an athletic base the whole time - Keep the intensity high! This footwork drill is good for players of all ages and abilities!

11.01.2022 The winner of last weeks challenge is Danny Yan! Each week until we can get back out on court well be holding Weekly Challenges, and if you send in a video of your attempt youll go in the draw to win a 30min private lesson! Keep your eyes peeled for the next challenge, which might be one of the last ones!!

11.01.2022 HOME ACTIVITY: Lunges A wise man once told me that tennis is a "legs sport", as you need to be able to run to the ball, be in a balanced position, and generate power from the ground up. Lunges are a great exercise to build leg strength, and requires no equipment or space! - Make sure your back stays upright (not leaning forwards)... - Front knee stays behind the toes - Back knee close to touching the ground See more

11.01.2022 Hot Shots Player Cards all ready to go! The coaches have enjoyed writing up their end-of-term notes for all our Hot Shots players, outlining how they did this term and what to improve for next term! Coach Luke (pictured) may or may not have gotten a little teary-eyed when reflecting on how well his students did this term ... #tennis #tennisclub #tenniscoach #heathmont #zenithtennisacademy

10.01.2022 Its been awesome to see some of our juniors so keen to find ways to continue improving, getting in some online tennis conditioning a few times a week (some every day!). Their intensity and work ethic has been outstanding every single session, and if they keep it up theyll be able to hit the ground running when we can eventually get back out on court. Good work players!!

10.01.2022 How about this hand-crafted beanie with a Zenith Tennis logo, made by student @dannyyan_tennis for his school project!?! This will keep the head warm on these cold Winter mornings! #tennis #beanie #schoolproject #zenithtennisacademy

09.01.2022 Coach Luke with a racquet skills activity for kids aged 5+! Being able to control the ball is vital for tennis, and this is an activity that can be done in the comfort of your home!

08.01.2022 While we are all currently kept away from the courts, we'll be posting activities every day that players will be able to do at home! ... HOME ACTIVITY: "Splat"... This is a great activity for younger kids (eg, Red and Orange Ball) and beginners, and works on coordination, receiving the ball, and controlling the direction of your shot. It is one of the first progressions that players can do to simulate a rally, and we'd love our players aged 4-8yrs to give it a go! - In pairs (join in mum or dad!) roll the ball along the ground to each other - Stop the incoming ball by "splatting' it on the ground with your racquet - Roll the ball back to your partner, making sure you turn side on Levels: 1) See how many you can get in a row as a team 2) Set up some goals behind each player, and try to beat each other! Have a go at both levels, and don't forget we have our Weekly Challenge (racquet tricks) which will end this weekend!

08.01.2022 HOME ACTIVITY: Volley Catches Let's keep moving while currently stuck at home! This drill works coordination and agility (depending on how hard you make it), and helps us stay sharp so we are ready to go again when we get back out on court. - Throwing ball back and forth, one player moving... - Keep and athletic base (wide, low, bouncy) - Step with opposite foot when catching like a volley See more

08.01.2022 WEEKLY CHALLENGE #1: Racquet Tricks Hope everyone is staying clean and healthy!! Every week from now until we can resume lessons, our coaches will be coming up with a Weekly Challenge! We have started off with an easy one that absolutely anyone can do: RACQUET TRICKS... If you complete the challenge, video it and send it to us at [email protected] you'll go into the weekly draw to win a 30 minute private lesson (when we are allowed to get back out on court)!!
