24.01.2022 Our beautiful Babinda Boulders are looking great with all this rain Get outside and get active with a walk to the viewing platform of the Devils Pool How To get To Devils Pool at Babinda Boulders... The Devils Pool walk is a 1.3 kilometre return walk along the Babinda Creek downstream from the Babinda Boulders picnic area. Slightly undulating along a rough bitumen track, the walk leads through the rainforest to two viewing platforms where the creek cascades down a series of spectacular waterfalls, granite boulders and washpools. The Devils Pool Legend The Babinda Boulders offers not just a beautiful swimming hole, but this rainforest region also holds great significance for local Aboriginal people. According to legend a beautiful young girl named Oolana, from the Yidinji people, married a respected elder from her tribe named Waroonoo. Shortly after their union another tribe moved into the area and a handsome young man came into her life. His name was Dyga and the pair soon fell in love. Realising the adulterous crime they were committing, the young lovers escaped their tribes and fled into the valleys. The elders captured them, but Oolana broke free from her captors and threw herself into the still waters of what is now known as Babinda Boulders, calling for Dyga to follow her. As Dyga hit the waters, her anguished cries for her lost lover turned the still waters into a rushing torrent and the land shook with sorrow. Huge boulders were scattered around the creek and the crying Oolana disappeared among them. Aboriginal legend says her spirit still guards the boulders and that her calls for her lost lover can still be heard. Now this area is known as Devils Pool. 24.01.2022 To all our customers, Due to COVID-19 we have decided to take our own precautions, we are doing this to not only keep our family safe but yours too.... As of Friday 20th March, we are no longer allowing entry into the shop. WE ARE STILL OPEN! We have have installed a service window to stop the possible spread in the community of the common flu and possibly COVID-19. This way there will be no chance of any virus spread amongst customers. Please understand that we have tourists, locals and people travelling to and from other infected states. Also a lot of sick people who get bored at home... Please be patient as we try to work through this transition. You can still get fuel, cigarettes, Gas, Ice, soft drinks, lollies and groceries. (Well what I have in stock) As far as we are aware milk, tobacco and fuel supply are continuing as usual. Should this change we will make you aware ASAP. Payment methods of eftpos payWave are preferred, but we will still accept cash. We have a sterilisation solution that will be used on the bowser, we had hoped to provide antibacterial hand wash but are currently still unable to purchase any through our suppliers.
