08.01.2022 Did you know that today, 14 October, is International E-Waste Day? #Whywasteit? Take a moment to realise the treasures that sleep in your drawers and m...ake sure they are #recycled and not wasted! Did you know that 98% of the components in your computer or television can be fully recycled! E-Waste is any electrical item that has a switch, battery or cord and is broken or no longer required. A record 53.6 million metric tonnes (Mt) of electronic waste was generated worldwide in 2019, up 21% in just five years, according to the UN’s Global E-waste Monitor 2020. It is estimated that by 2030 this number will reach 74 Mt! Only 17.4% of 2019’s e-waste was collected and recycled. Half of this is personal devices such as computers, screens, smartphones, tablets and TVs, with the remainder being larger household appliances and heating and cooling equipment. International E-Waste Day was developed in 2018 by the WEEE Forum with the support of its members. The day is used to raise the public profile of e-waste recycling and encourage consumers to recycle their e-waste. A list of e-waste recycling drop-off locations, within our East Waste Member Councils, can be found on our website here: www.eastwaste.com.au/waste-recycling/electronic-recycling/ Did you know you can post your e-waste for responsible recycling from anywhere in Australia? @TechCollect have partnered with @auspost to launch TechExpress. Post up to 22kgs of e-waste, including mobile phones, laptops, keyboards, computer parts and accessories. Find out more here: http://ow.ly/5tB850BAKSu Can it be repaired? It is often better to repair an item instead of recycling it. Fixing damaged electronical items offers quite a few advantages; it saves money, conserves resources, and you can continue using a good item that you know and trust. You can get items repaired through the manufacturer's service provider which may be covered under your purchase warranty. Repair cafes also provide a great service in repairing items. Alternatively you may consider fixing it yourself. There are many online tutorials on how to do this, so why not give it a go! #ewasteday #Whywasteit? When you can #repair or #recycle it! #circulareconomy
07.01.2022 This really is an eye opener....a great graphic for people about how much plastic there is in clothes.
06.01.2022 Unfortunately the seller would not give dimensions unless I came to look. Looks to be quite big.
06.01.2022 This is not good. "Humans do contribute a lot of acoustic pollution in the marine environment, we also have fishing gear, we also have ships. We present a number of threats to these animals," she said. Cetaceans such as whales, dolphins and porpoises are also very curious by nature.... "These animals may have ventured a little too close and as a result have entered into an area which has resulted in a stranding situation," - Dr Pirotta said. (A quote from the article - ABC Tasmania)
06.01.2022 After some recent messages we have decided to call for expressions of interest. Would you like to have a bee hive in your garden? Don't have the equipment or kn...owledge to look after it? Don't know how to do the inspections mandated by law AND keep records? Beekeeping SA is considering a 'Host a Hive' service. We will provide the hive, conduct regular inspections, treatments etc and you get to keep 25 percent of the honey! ( that could be up to 15kg per year!!) If your interested in learning how to do it yourself we can also teach you as we go..... We are estimating $10 per week for this service. Thats only a couple of coffees for having a fantastic veggie garden, awesome flower pollination and a great source of honey. Send us a message and we can keep you in the loop as we work out the details.
02.01.2022 For everyone EVERYWHERE!
