23.01.2022 In the last week I have seen 3 clients present with Perioral dermatitis. What is it? . Perioral dermatitis is a rash that develops around the mouth - the word 'perioral' meaning 'around the mouth', and 'dermatitis' meaning 'inflammation of the skin'. Almost all cases occur in young women, most commonly between the ages of 15 and 45 years. Although the exact cause is unknown, researchers think it may relate to the use of topical corticosteroids, stress, the pill, unsett...led skin barrier, health and other factors. Less is best for this condition . The most important thing though is to keep the ingredient list simple, so you're not bombarding your skin with potentially irritating ingredients. Try to identify the triggers. Make a positive change with a healthy plant-based diet and plant-based natural skin care. Look for natural ingredients that help soothe and repair the skin barrier. No SLS in your cleansers and avoid exfoliating. Change your oil based serums to water based serums. Light moisturisers and drink plenty of fresh water .
