22.01.2022 ART + WINE Approaching Hayley’s work with the idea of pairing wines to them allowed me to look at wine through a different lens. 3 lines, 3 horizons #5 by ... @hayleymeganfrench + Seafoam fiano ‘pet Nat’ by @unicozelo In contrast to Hayley’s intent with these specific works, I interpreted the painting as a vertical plane, establishing the bottom of the canvas as a foundation. Pairing the ‘Pet Nat’ established the idea that the foundation represents the traditions of making sparkling wine and the space above is room for growth & exploration while respecting foundation and tradition. The initial two horizon lines in close proximity express strength and depth paired with restraint, these ideas for me stimulated deeply rooted emotion tied to celebrating with traditional sparkling wines. Past the 2nd horizon, in to the expanse between the foundation and the 3rd horizon is the space where exciting wine makers are exploring the traditions of sparkling wine making with no barrier while also being supported by the foundation. The 3rd horizon was interrupted as a hurdle to be crossed while continuing to lay foundations for further exploration. Seafoam by Unico Zelo was Hayley’s first introduction to these styles of wine so it was only fitting to pair the two together. Both Hayley through her work & the whole team at Unico Zelo with their exceptional wine making, express their sense of place with respect to foundations & tradition.
