20.01.2022 Our Teacher Feature this week is Alex Phan Why do you teach? It’s really rewarding to be a part of my students’ journey of learning and growth in science. I really appreciated all the people who helped me out when I was a high school student once, and I feel like it’s an amazing opportunity to be in a position where I can help out others. And of course, it’s pretty fulfilling when my students laugh at my jokes.... How has Physics helped me in my University studies? Physics content pops up every once in a while but I think the most significant way in which it helps is the problem-solving skills which I developed in the study of physics. It pushes you to be able to draw on a variety of formulae, laws and relationships to be able to tackle the scenario presented in each question. These problem-solving skills have helped me not just in uni, but in everyday life as well. About Me: I reckon musicals are pretty cool Whenever I hear a funny phrase, I make it my entire personality trait until I hear another one Sometimes when I get bored with how slow a k-drama is, I just read episode recaps on drama beans instead of actually watching the episodes

13.01.2022 Introducing our last teacher feature of the term.... Anthony Hwang Why do you teach? Through first-hand experience, I have come to understand the transformative impact a genuine and caring teacher can have on their students. My teachers were able to lead me patiently and successfully through any question or concept that I was confused over. ... Hence, it is an honour for me to take up this mantle and emulate those brilliant teachers, by guiding students through the often (initially) difficult concepts of Physics. Additionally, as many of my students would know, I have this love for flowcharts (everything makes sense after you draw one) and I love sharing this with my students as well. How has Physics helped me in my University studies? While Physics concepts appear sporadically in my medical studies, I have particularly found that the logical flow that you learn with Physics has transferred to all my studies. In Physics, it is important to link the concept(s) with the outcome in a logical manner (that’s why a flowchart is so valuable!). Thus, in my studies, this ability to confidently piece together differing concepts has really helped me cut through any confusion I have, making learning easier and more enjoyable. About Me: I cycle through hobbies monthly (currently I’m super into running and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu we’ll see how well these age) I have an unhealthy obsession with watches When I watch a K-drama, I usually finish it within 2 days

01.01.2022 Introducing Alexander Lin for our Teacher Feature this week! Why do you teach? I value my ability to make a positive impact on my students during what can be their most stressful and time-poor high-school years. I was blessed to have teachers capable of explaining concepts and questions that would take me hours to learn on my own. It is extremely rewarding to take on that role, and I strive to ensure my students prepare for the HSC in the most efficient and effectiv...e ways. How has Science (Chemistry or Physics) helped you in your university studies? As I am majoring in Chemistry and Physics, I find my high school experience with these sciences directly helps my studies. What I especially love about these subjects is that they are the basis for most scientific disciplines and research. Physics is especially useful as it not only provides meaningful practical applications for maths but also teaches fundamental concepts that apply to all sciences. About Me - I love playing and watching pretty much any ball sport (except cricket!) - Very happy to tinker around with an experiment for hours - Currently reading ‘What is Life?’ by Erwin Schrödinger
