25.01.2022 Children at Zig Zags OSHC South Padbury had a magical start to the school holidays with a visit from Pop Magic. Children laughed all the way through the show and loved getting involved. We all agreed the best part was when we got taught how to do the magic pen trick so we could all go home and amaze our families. Learning Outcome 4.1

24.01.2022 Thursday at Zig Zags OSHC Beldon was all about mosaics. We made mosaic jars, mosaic plaques and stained glass windows. The children loved making their plaques and it was so exciting to mix up the plaster of paris - children couldnt wait to see how long it took to dry and get hard. The stained glass windows also proved very popular - children loved holding their creations up to the window and watching the sun shine through!! Learning Outcomes: 4.1, 4.2

23.01.2022 Today we had the circus come to Zig Zags OSHC Duncraig & Greenwood and we all got to show our acrobatic skills. Firstly we learned how to spin plates on a stick and after that we got to spin on a giant trapeze! Children had so much fun and showed us how brave they were. After that we tumbled, juggled and learned how to do cart wheels. In the end we all worked together to build a big pyramid together. (Outcomes 5.1, 2.1)

23.01.2022 On Tuesday Zig Zags OSHC went to the new water feature at the Kingsway Dinosaur Park. Luckily, we had great warm weather so everyone had lots of fun splashing in the water. Afterwards, we had lots of time to play in the sandpit, on the playground and we even had a walk around the lake. We saw lots of ducks but the most exciting bit was seeing the really big fish in the lake! Learning Outcomes: 3.2, 1.2

23.01.2022 Today at Zig Zags OSHC Glengarry we celebrated Spring by decorating our own pot plant. The children thought hard about what they wanted to draw on them. Some children chose to do patterns while others drew a picture. Once they we completed the children then were given the opportunity to plant a seedling of their choice. We discussed what they needed to do to keep the seedling alive and help it to grow into a plant that will shortly have some flowers. All plants need their o...wn tag so we rolled out some clay for the children to create their own tag. Some children did snails while others used natural materials to make imprints. We are also babysitting the Glengarry Primary School Kinder chickens that are only 3 weeks old. The children have been great at taking responsibility by helping to feed them and to make sure they have water. They really enjoy being able to take them out to have a hold. Learning outcome: 2.4 children become socially responsible and show respect for the environment See more

23.01.2022 Children had an amazing time with our Supersonic Science Day. They made rockets with bicarbonate soda and citric acid, giant bubbles, snow with a special type of salt that holds water, slime, rings of smoke and elephant toothpaste. Children enjoyed seeing all those chemical reactions and had lots of fun turning into little scientists. Outcome 4.1/4.2 children are involved learners using skills such as experimentation and hypothesis

23.01.2022 Children at Zig Zags OSHC South Padbury have been doing more science with a travelling water experiment. Children had fun preparing the experiment by pouring colouring in the water and preparing pieces of paper towel. Then they placed the paper towel in the cups filled with water and colouring with a different colour in each cup. They waited to see what would happen. They observed that the water moved up the paper towel creating beautiful patterns of colours. They learnt th...at it was the same process that happens in plants with water moving from roots to leaves. They commented on how the colours were mixing following the route taken by the water. The following day they extended on the experiment using another process. Instead of having water in all the cups they left one cup out of two without water. Children were amazed to see how the empty cups filled up with water. Children were prompted to think with open-ended questions. It was great to hear how they imagined the water went form one cup to the other. Learning Outcome 4.1 children develop dispositions such as curiosity and confidence

22.01.2022 As school returned last week Zig Zags OSHC South Padbury children wore their scientists hats and experimented with milk, dishwashing liquid and food dye. They learnt that milk particles separate at the contact of dishwashing liquid creating beautiful patterns with the dye. Children investigated with adding a bit of water to the dye to see if the result would be the same. They observed the results were pretty similar. They enjoyed creating new patterns and noticed that patterns kept moving and transforming themselves. They also noticed that when they stirred the mixture the patterns would eventually disappear and become one single colour. Outcome 4.2: Children use experimentation and hypothesis.

Some children said they had teddies at their place already, others said they were going to do it wh...en they got home. Amanda talked about maybe doing something here for Zig Zags OSHC Beldon and we ended up deciding on a handprint rainbow. The children were very excited as we started making the lines with the coloured pencils first, so we knew where our handprints had to go.
