25.01.2022 RE-SIGNING ALERT!! After playing his first game for the club in 2000 (before several other players were born), few would of thought Ben Long would still be going 21 seasons later. But after finishing only one vote behind winner Nick Toohey in the League Medal this year, Longy is pulling the boots on again in 2021. A natural forward who was played as a defender by coach David Bugeja all year, Longy is best known for his pace and penetrating kicks. With stamina like an 18 yea...r old rookie, and poster boy good looks, the club is happy to see the #1 run around again. Welcome back young fella!



25.01.2022 Terrific first night of senior training tonight, with almost 20 players putting in the effort for the first night of season 2020. Training continues next week at 6pm, all players interested in pulling on the night Eagles jersey next year are encouraged to come for a kick!

25.01.2022 AFL DRAFT WEEK Pick 37 2007 AFL National Draft Sam Reid is another out of the Zillmere footy factory, drafted to the Bulldogs in 2007. He would play 10 games for the Doggies before moving in 2011 to the GWS Giants. ... Sam would be delisted and sign on as an assistant coach at the Giants, before they re drafted him in the 2016 Rookie Draft. Since then, hes been a regular in the Senior side, and played in this years losing GF side.

24.01.2022 SENIOR MENS TRAINING UPDATE- Due to the resurfacing of our oval, which is going to look unreal, we have had to move our mens training. Training will now be- Where- Pine Rivers Swans AFC, Bells Pocket Road, Lawnton... When- Wednesdays at 6pm for a 6:15pm start We would like to thank Mitchell Clemett and the Swans for once again coming to the assistance of the club. Legends! New players are encouraged to attend still. We had 30+ at training last week, 2020 is shaping up brilliantly at the Eagles!

23.01.2022 Huuuuuge numbers last night as the senior men prepare for Mayne this Friday night away from home. We only have two rounds left of the shortened season, the boys are on track to play finals, but two wins in the last two games would certainly be a great way to head in to finals footy. Next week, come and watch us take on Jimboomba at home in what shapes as a massive game! And we would love to see supporters over at Everton this week as we take on Mayne from 7:30pm!



22.01.2022 RECRUITMENT NEWS- Our first recruitment post for 2021 sees the club welcome back 2017 Premiership captain Brodie Agosta! A hard ball winning midfielder who loves to celebrate a goal, Brodie is keen to pull back on the Eagles jersey again in 2021.... Best known for his heroics in the 2017 Grand Final when he returned from cancer treatment to lead the team to a big win over Sandgate, it will be great to have him back at the club. More exciting recruitment news to come over the next few weeks. It’s going to be a great year at Zillmere!

22.01.2022 The Zillmere Eagles passes its heartfelt condolences to the Dickfos family after the passing of Eileen Dickfos a few days ago. Mum to Eagles greats Michael, Robert and Dan, the whole club sends our love and best wishes to all of the Dickfos family in this sad time. May she rest peacefully.

22.01.2022 AFL DRAFT WEEK Pick 83 1997 AFL NATIONAL DRAFT Ben Thompson was drafted out of the Eagles by Carlton in 1997, his athletic talent and ability to do the freakish things on a footy field getting him to the top level.... Thommo would play his first and only AFL game in round 1 1999, against the Bombers. After finishing his AFL career, he would head back to the Eagles, where he was and is a much loved member of the club.

21.01.2022 SENIOR MENS TRIAL GAME- Our new look mens team will play its first trial game as preparations continue for 2020. New coach David Bugeja will be in charge of a group full of new faces (and some old ones) as the boys head to Kedron to take on the Lions at their home ground. ... Game starts at 7:15pm this Friday, come and support the boys and see how the team is shaping up for the year.

21.01.2022 AFL DRAFT WEEK Pick 67 2001 AFL Rookie Draft Zillmere has had some terrific leaders in its history, and one bloke who is right up there with the best we have had is Luke Weller.... Taken with the last pick of the 2001 Rookie Draft by the Brisbane Lions, Luke would later be upgraded to the main list at the club and play 4 games for the club. After being delisted by the Lions, Weller would be picked up by Richmond, where he would go on to play 7 games, taking his career career tally to 11. After finishing his AFL stint, Lukey returned to the Eagles, who he helped lead to the Grand Final in 2006. The Weller family has an amazing history with Zillmere, and Luke Weller certainly holds his own next to his famous father Neville and Uncle Terry in club history.



21.01.2022 RE-SIGNING ANNOUNCEMENT! We have had a few recruits sign over the last week, we can now announce a pretty exciting re-signing.. Last years Rising Star winner and one of our most talented youngsters Kodi Dickfos is coming back in 2021!... Kodi got better every game this year, ending up a key part of our defence. Tall, quick and mobile, his closing speed makes him a really tough opponent for opposition forwards. He will only be 19 next season, how great is it to see a Dickfos running around in blue and white! Things are shaping up well for 2021!

21.01.2022 ROUND 1 is HERE!!! After the longest preseason in history, we finally get to run out on the beautiful new surface against Mayne TONIGHT! Game starts at 7:30pm, but get down early and watch our future stars in the Under 8s.... Bar is open and food available, the club needs your support and would love to see our supporters at the club!

20.01.2022 FRIDAY RECRUITMENT (AGAIN!!) Welcome to the club Damien Marsland who comes to the Eagles from Redcliffe. Damo was part of the 2018 reserve grade premiership side at the Tigers, a ball winner who puts his head over the footy, we welcome you to the Eagles for 2021!... Been a big few weeks of new recruits, we are really excited about where the club is headed! Bring on 2021!

20.01.2022 SENIOR MENS Great turnout at training again this week with 20 on the track on Wednesday night....we have seen 27 different faces over the two sessions! Training Plan for next couple of weeks:... 11/12 - 6pm at the club similar to the last couple of weeks. 18/12 - 6pm at the club / 30-40 mins of 9s footy or something similar and then a feed and drink to finish off our Pre Xmas block. It would be really good to keep the numbers up for last two sessions so get down if you can and spread the word!

19.01.2022 FOOTY IS BACK TOMORROW!! Our mens team are set to have a run in a practice match against Redcliffe tomorrow @12pm at their wonderful new facility at Nathan Rd. Round 1 is only a week away, so it will be a great chance for the boys to lay a few tackles and feel some contact after 3 months of Covid restrictions.... Supporters are welcome to come and watch, social distancing must be followed and Covid protocols followed.

18.01.2022 Reminder our 1975/6 amd 1981 QAFL Premiership reunions will be on the Saturday 19th of June, starting at 3pm. All former players, staff and supporters are welcome! Our current senior men’s side play at 5pm against traditional rivals Mayne also. Should be a great day! Live music from 7pm, bar and food available, come and enjoy an arvo at the Eagles, catch up with old friends and watch some footy!

18.01.2022 Congratulations to our skipper Nick Toohey on taking out the League Best and Fairest for the year! Terrific effort. Well done also to rising star and young gun Ben Long on being runner up. A break out season for sure. Unfortunately our boys were knocked out in the preliminary final last Friday, going down by two goals to Maroochydore. ... Well done to first year coach David Bugeja and the team on doing so well in a very tough year.

17.01.2022 RECRUITMENT UPDATE! The club are pleased to announce Mark MacDonald has joined the club for 2021! Macca is originally from country Victoria where he was a rep player, and played his last two seasons at Kedron. He was a best and fairest winner there in 2019 and we are hoping he has a similar impact at the Eagles next year. ... A defender who is a smart ball user and hard to beat, we are pumped to have him on board! Welcome to the Eagles!

15.01.2022 Terrific start to 2020 for our senior mens side last night, in a fantastic trial hit out against Kedron. With a lot of new faces it was awesome to see the boys playing well together and putting in a very promising effort for 4 quarters. Thanks to Kedron for hosting the game and good luck to the Lions for the season ahead in div 2.

15.01.2022 AFL DRAFT WEEK Pick 35 2007 AFL Rookie Draft Daniel Dzufer was picked up by the Brisbane Lions in the 2007 rookie draft. The Sunny Coast product was a highly skilled running player who was a terrific player for the Eagles in his time at the club. ... Dzuf remained on the Lions list from 07 to 09 and played one game at senior AFL level. He has had recent success playing in premierships at Maroochydore and being a key player for them.

15.01.2022 NEW RECRUIT!! Welcome to the Eagles Mitch Howe, who comes to us after playing a heap of QAFL footy in the past at Wilston Grange.. Mitch is a hard ball winning midfielder, who is aggressive on the inside and uses his body well off the ball. ... Former Grange team mate and returning Eagle Dan Campbell describes him as the sort of bloke you want in your corner, he will crack in and put his body on the line for you. He’s also great value off field and he is always happy to scrub your back after the game as well, just a great all round bloke.. Welcome to the club mate!

14.01.2022 The Senior Group rounded their Pre Xmas training last night with another fantastic turnout and dinner at the club after training. Season 2021 is shaping up to be very exciting at the Eagles! We will kick of again on Wednesday the 20th January. All the best to you and your families for the Christmas / New Year break! ... 13.01.2022 AFL DRAFT WEEK 2009 Gold Coast Zone Priority selection Zac Smith played in the last season for Zillmere in 2007 before the club would fold due to the collapse of Shaw Sportz. ... Smith would move to Southport before being listed by the Suns as an foundation member of the AFLs newest club. He left the Suns after 65 games and joined Geelong where he added 50 games. Traded back to Gold Coast Suns in this year trade period, Zac Smith is another local player who went through the Zillmere Eagles.

10.01.2022 SUNDAY RECRUITMENT ANNOUNCEMENT After the news 2017 Premiership skipper Brodie Agosta was making a return to the Eagles, we can add another from that year who has decided to pull on the blue and white again! Dan Campbell was a key player in the success of 2017, a small forward who kicks goals and also can run through the midfield. We are pumped he has decided to come and play again in 2021.... Having first played at Zillmere in the State League days in 2005, DCam has plenty of history with the Eagles. He’s also played a heap of QAFL footy with Wilston Grange over the years and will be a huge asset for 2021. Welcome back mate!

Cale is a terrific ball user off half back, often setting up plenty of attacks with his long, accurate kicking. ... Often referred to as the good looking brother, we are pumped to have Cale back in the blue and white for 2021.

08.01.2022 COVID-19 and the 2020 Season: The Zillmere Eagles AFC is continuously monitoring the AFLs position of COVID-19. We will look to act swiftly on any guidance we receive from the AFL. Yesterday, the AFL has taken the decision to suspend all state league competitions until May 31st.... At this point, this advice does not include Community Football or Junior Football. We are expecting to be advised today by AFLQ, who run Community and Junior Football in Queensland, around what season 2020 may look like for our competition. Once we receive this information, our committee will meet tomorrow night (Wednesday) to map out our next steps as a club and to provide all of our members with clarity around the season (as far as is possible). In the meantime, we will continue with scheduled training sessions for today. Attendance at training is purely optional based on your individual circumstances. 07.01.2022 From our "Before they were AFLW stars" archives, an interview with then Zillmere Eagles AFC footballer, Tayla Harris, a month before the 2015 AFL Womens Exhibi...tion Match at the Docklands (Marvel Stadium). Tayla would not only represent the Melbourne Football Club twice that year, but also represent Queensland at both Youth Girls and Senior Womens level. Shed be signed to the Brisbane Lions as one of their two marquees for the inaugural AFL Womens season, and in the middle of 2017, would request a trade to the Carlton Football Club, for whom shes played 3 seasons for thus far. Morto played his footy in the Southern Football League in Victoria before moving up north last year and having a run at Kedron. He is built like a brick outhouse, plays as a key defender and loves to run with the footy and bang a goal on the run.. He is also known for his love of a hanger or two, which should see plent...y of excitement next year at O’Callaghan Park! Welcome to the club mate!

05.01.2022 AFL DRAFT WEEK Pick 29 2007 AFL NATIONAL DRAFT Brendan Whitecross was drafted from the Zillmere Eagles in 2007. The athletic, hard running mid who loves a goal, was picked up by Hawthorn, where he went on to play 111 games for the Hawks.... One of the most unlucky players due to injury, Whitecross was unfortunate to miss out on playing in any of the Hawks premiership successes. He did an ACL in the 2012 qualifying final and then again in prelim final in 2013, both costing him the ultimate success. Despite the injurys Whitecross still carved out a wonderful career in the AFL.

03.01.2022 AFL DRAFT WEEK 1996 AFL QLD Zone priority Selection Already a Zillmere Eagles Premiership player, a State representative, Joe Grant Medalist and Premiership Captain by 1995, Dan Dickfos had built a reputation as the best player in the country outside of the AFL. ... When the Eagles were forced out of the comp in 1996, the Brisbane Bears finally landed Dan as a priority zone selection. In 1996, his first year of AFL, he played 22 of 25 possible games including 3 finals and being one win away from a Grand Final. Dan would go on to play 65 AFL Games for the Bears/Lions, before injury in 1999 and his desire to come home to OCallaghan Park saw him rejoin the Eagles for the 2000 season. Since then, hes played a thousand more games and at 49 and when the hamstrings hold up, is still pulling on the Eagles jersey. A legend of the club and Queensland footy, Dan is easily the clubs most decorated player to play at the top level.

We have now had our committee meeting... and are able to pass along the following information released by AFL yesterday. Please take the time to reads though the FAQ section. At this time, the Eagles will be following this information. https://play.afl/covid-19/faqs As stated, there is to be NO organised training at the Zillmere grounds. 02.01.2022 MASSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT!! On the 19th June from 2pm, the club invites all past players,supporters and families to the club to celebrate the 1976 and 1981 QAFL Premierships. On the same day, our senior men’s side will play traditional local rivals Mayne at 5pm.... Bar and canteen facilities will be open and the function will be a massive day for the Eagles. We would love to see a huge turn out to celebrate the 45 and 40 year anniversaries and also to cheer on this years side! Spread the word, what a great opportunity to catch up with old friends, share stories and get back to O’Callaghan Park!
