13.01.2022 Ensuring students have access to specialist facilities is a significant challenge faced by many education providers, as COVID-related restrictions limit and in many cases prevent students from accessing campus-based facilities such as audio consoles. To help address this challenge, today I am excited to launch the SAE Audient ASP4816 Simulator, which provides SAE students with remote access to a fully-functional photorealistic simulation of the Audient ASP4816 console. The s...oftware was designed principally as a learning / teaching tool to allow students to learn the signal flow of the ASP4816 and practice using the console while off-campus. The photorealistic simulation features identical controls, routing, switches, lights, and (non-modelled) audio signal processing to the real thing, in addition to interactive tutorials and custom console scenarios. The MacOS simulator is publically (and freely) available from: https://dl.orangedox.com/SAEAudientASP4816Simulator

01.01.2022 Decided to build a digital emulation of my favourite hardware EQ - the PULTEC EQP-IS, for next year’s AES conference on Audio Education (I'm writing a paper on using digital hardware emulations to teach signal processing). These digital emulations of outboard units start out as a photo of the real thing (1), the knobs and dials are then removed (2) and used to create switches. The ‘knobless’ image (3) is imported into Max where it serves as a background image, onto which the ...switches are added using the [pictctrl] object (4). Early days but the power switch lights up the red globe, and the in/out switch is also visually functional. There'll be a post on my blog shortly with more details. http://zippernoise.com.au/blog.html
