25.01.2022 Something positive for the endangered Regent Honeyeater.

25.01.2022 ZNET did a road trip this week - all the way to Glen Innes and Inverell! We wanted to take a look at the wind turbines seeing there is a wind farm planned for Uralla Shire. They are big! Well worth the trip .....

24.01.2022 Some great research and practical ideas to keep our homes and neighbourhoods cool in a heatwave and more resilient during storms.

23.01.2022 By growing what we consume more locally we are increasing our food resilience and lowering the carbon cost of food miles

22.01.2022 Uralla’s not just talking about water - we are reading about it too! The trusty team at the Library have gathered up the regions best books on every thing to do with Pop in and grab a book - I'm heading to the Good Gardens With Less Water now that the heat has moved in.

22.01.2022 We're fortunate to have Dr Stuart Khan on the Let's Talk About Water team. Also a member of the National Water Grid Advisory Body, you may have heard him speak earlier this week on ABC New England North West about some of the different and innovative techniques that can be used to secure regional water supplies #letstalkaboutwater Interview starts at 2.09 https://www.abc.net.au//progr/breakfast/breakfast/12643316

22.01.2022 We have just put out a newsletter of events coming up for Znet. If you have not received it (maybe check your junk mail) or are not on our mailing list please click on the link below. https://zneturalla.org.au//a-list-of-events-for-znet-ural/ #sustainable firewood, #biodiversity, #Znetpluswater

21.01.2022 As the weather is warming lots of buildings will be turning their air conditioners on. Don't forget to change the temperature to around 23 c as for every degree you make it colder it will add 10% extra cost.

21.01.2022 Keep the bottles coming! Fantastic response on the empty water bottles- many thanks. We’ve been inspired to do a bigger art installation now so if there are any more bottles out there they are welcome. Just drop off on front veranda at 10 East Street. URALLA - Let’s Talk About Water!!!

20.01.2022 It would be great to have this initiative in NSW too. We know from doing our Home Energy Reviews there are a number of rental properties that could be made more energy efficient which would make the tenants more comfortable and be able to save on power costs. It would also save for the landlords as there would be less tenant turnover and the costs associated with finding new tenants.

20.01.2022 As we contemplate options for water security and best use it is usefull to cast our eyes around at what others are doing.

20.01.2022 Uralla Shire has been very busy this year installing solar on homes and businesses. As at October we have installed more than any other year before. It will be interesting to see how much we install in total for 2020 as I know I have seen more going up this month.

18.01.2022 Workshop, drop-in session, one-on-one conversation, social media - how would you like to join in the water conversation? Feel free to add your comments here! Flyer #3 is on community engagement, view it & our activity timetable at http://zneturalla.org.au/water/activities/ #LetsTalkAboutWater

17.01.2022 DATE CLAIMER: for all of you who love to grow food don't miss this opportunity to learn and observe from Banded Bee Farm; Sunday morning Sept 27th. See flyer for more details

17.01.2022 Don't forget to register and have a go at counting the birds around you. You get a free bird identification app which you can use all year. It is for amateurs and a great way to start learning about what birds we have around here.

17.01.2022 Here are the highlights from the Bird Count in October.

17.01.2022 Meet Matthew Kearnes! Matt is a social scientist from UNSW with a keen interest in how communities can work together to create pathways towards water sustainability. Matt will be coordinating the interviews and focus groups for #letstalkaboutwater and it's fantastic to have him on board. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmgZGIV7RHs&feature=youtu.be

16.01.2022 Dave Carr Stringybark Ecological has been leading our biodiversity studies. It was very exciting when we managed to find evidence (poo) of koala's when we were doing our counting.

16.01.2022 Do you have an old freezer or fridge running all the time in the back shed or as the back up fridge/freezer? The Food Pantry asked us to check on their power bill and the first thing we noticed was the old freezer and fridge. They borrowed the Save Power Kit from the library and measured how much power they were using. For the freezer they were paying around $470 per year to run it. A new one would cost about $120 to run. It will only take about 2 years to cover the costs of a new one with the savings. They are planning to purchase a new freezer with money they have received fromUralla Grants. A win all around. DON'T FORGET TO CHECK THOSE OLD FRIDGES AND FREEZERS!!!

16.01.2022 Renew has joined a coalition of 23 not-for-profit community organisations declaring our support for 7-star rated homes with solar as a national minimum building standard.

15.01.2022 One of highlights of the biodiversity studies we did last month was seeing the range of wildflowers that were out. Here are a few that we have been able to identify using the Native Wildflower of the NE Tablelands of NSW that you can get from the Armidale Tree Group . It is amazing what is appearing. #biodiversity studies #sustainablefirewood #elephantinthewoodland

14.01.2022 Great to see our gardens growing after the wonderful rain . ZNET is busy propagating plants for our street stall in Feb. We are running out of pots!!! If anyone has any spare pots - could they drop them on the front veranda at 10 East Street? Many thanks!

14.01.2022 We’re inviting Uralla residents to help us plan the final phase of community engagement for our Let’s Talk About Water project, looking at options to boost water security and drought resilience for the shire. Come along to the Uralla Bowling Club on Wednesday 30 June from 6pm for a think tank to plan how we share the community feedback received through the project so far and how we gather further public input. RSVPs would be great, particularly to help with our COVID planning. Interested people can contact Scott Green on 045700126. https://zneturalla.org.au/water/

12.01.2022 Introducing the Let's Talk About Water project team! Please click through for the latest update and to join our mailing list. #AdaptNSW #water #letstalkaboutwater #uralla

12.01.2022 It is nearly 5 years since ZNET Uralla started up. We would love it if you could spend a small amount of time to answer a couple of questions for us. #sustainablefirewood, #biodiversity, #znetplus

11.01.2022 Don't forget to register for this event. You just needs 20 mins to record what you see and this year there will be lots to see out at Dangars Lagoon as well as in your garden.

10.01.2022 There will be more information coming regarding the grant Znet Plus was awarded for tree planting.

09.01.2022 If you need help this is where to go.

09.01.2022 When the west wind is howling during the really cold weather and your sliding doors don't seal here is a fantastic fix. (you just need a friend with a 3d printer!)

08.01.2022 Uralla shire solar installations are above the average. It is calculated for Australia wide there is an average of 664 watts per person installed, but in our shire as at November our average is 746 watts. That is more than 10%

07.01.2022 Have you got any empty 10L white water bottles lying around - like those handed out during the arsenic alert? We need about 6-7 clean ones for our #LetsTalkAboutWater project. They can be dropped off at 10 East Street front verandah. Thanks so much!

05.01.2022 The latest issue of our ZNET Uralla newsletter is now available. Read about our successful Elephant in the Woodland sustainable firewood project wrapping up, how you can help plan the final phase of engagement for Let's Talk About Water, and Greening Uralla gives away 1200 seedlings ... and that's just the beginning. https://mailchi.mp/a062814dbc4c/water1-11197118

04.01.2022 In response to the current situation with COVID in NSW we have postponed the Let's Talk About Water engagement think tank scheduled to be held at the Uralla Bowling Club this Wednesday. A new date for the think tank will be promoted once it is confirmed. https://zneturalla.org.au/water/

02.01.2022 ZNET Uralla has just completed another project - The Elephant in the Woodland, a three year project on sustainable firewood funded by NSW Environmental Trust. We would like to thank all our fantastic volunteers, landholders, CSIRO for our office space, Dave Carr from Stringybark Ecological and our wonderful Uralla Shire Community. Go to our webpage https://zneturalla.org.au//elephant-in-the-woodland-wrap-/ to see the details and our 3 year picture summary of our activities. THANK YOU!

02.01.2022 New edition of Uralla Wordsworth out today! Lots of great information, and see the back two pages for our flyer #2 on Uralla's Water Infrastructure.

02.01.2022 With the hot weather coming over the next few days here are a couple of hints: 1. Insulation is just as important for keeping the heat out as in. The higher the R rating the better the insulation. 2. Don't forget to close your blinds during the day to keep the heat out and open up the house at night to cool everything down. If you can use cross breezes it is even better. 3. Fans are a cheap and effective way to keep you cool. You can also put some water in front to make it ...even more cooling or a wet towel on you. 4. Keep your air conditioner around 22-23C. For every degree cooler you make it that adds 10% of costs. 5. Some sort of shading outside on your western windows. You can make up something temporary with some shadecloth. DON'T FORGET TO DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!! Keep cool.

01.01.2022 New England is one of the NSW Renewable Energy Zones.
