25.01.2022 : ! We understand the need to adhere to social distancing, including stay home measures to flatten the curve of Covid... 19. Our collective organisations met on Thursday, as we know current surveillance measures create significant risks for some in our communities. Given the exemptions for health and other compassionate reasons, we met to discuss how we can support vulnerable young people, people of colour, of trauma backgrounds, LGBTIQA+ communities, those with intersecting mental health and or AOD issues, people with disability, and those where home (if you have one) is not always safe. Many of these people may be particularly vulnerable and marginalised but also have a history of negative experiences when it comes to dealings with police and other authorities. It is important that we both acknowledge these disproportionate impacts collectively and do what we can to provide support and safety and minimise negative experiences and minimise risks during this time. We will be meeting again to look at ways in engaging government, communities, and our organisations to ensure that these people are supported with what they need.
