21.01.2022 Exercise physiology: A new-found professional interest after studying equine exercise physiology via distance education during 'maternity leave' (yes, crazy). This is about training programmes (including ground work), nutrition and hydration, supplement selection, plus recommendations for other important equine services such as saddle fitting, massage/body work, hoof trimming/corrective shoeing. So dont know where to start? Is your horse is too fat? Too slow? Not strong enough? Doesnt recover well? Lets look at tweaking your conditioning programme or design one from the very beginning.

18.01.2022 Off to Day 3 of Fred Watkins' clinic - what will the weather be today: frosty, foggy or freezing? Getting horses off to a good start (or a mid-life makeover) with Watkins Horse Handlers.

13.01.2022 Next dental day: Monday 3rd July: Northam, Bakers Hill, Wundowie.

13.01.2022 Bovine Johnes disease is an infectious disease of cattle that can also affect other ruminants such as goats, alpaca, sheep and deer. It causes chronic wasting and incurable diarrhoea leading to deaths in mature cattle. There is no cure for Johne's disease, but you can help protect your herd from this disease with good biosecurity practices. Contact me if you require help with your Biosecurity Plan.

10.01.2022 Nutrition: Nearly every dental exam leads to a talk about nutrition. Based on your horse's dental health, body condition and ridden purpose, we can discuss improvements to your horse's ration or do a complete overhaul.

01.01.2022 Dentistry: Not just a power-float. Lets start with a body condition assessment, ridden & clinical history, heart check, then appropriate sedation. A full mouth exam, assessment of pathology (for example: malocclusions, wave mouth, hooks, ramps, dental caries, missing teeth, fractures, infection), power-floating, wolf teeth extractions. I refer horses that need further investigation (for x-rays) or treatment (diastema widening, incisor or cheek teeth extractions) to Dr Tom Hamilton and Dr Martin Dolinschek.
