I find it so vital to my mental well-being to have some small goals to work towards and focus on, something achievable and attainable. It’s so important to look after your mental health in times like these, when there is so much stress and upset caused by the disruption and the uncertainty of what lies ahead. 17.01.2022 I’ve decided to offer one lesson a week on my competition horse, Minty, who is trained to an Adv/PSG level. Minty has proven to be a great schoolmaster for others to learn on, and gives riders the chance to have a feel for some higher level movements. 11.01.2022 PARA | Today our Para-Equestrian athletes would have been in Tokyo preparing for the start of the #Tokyo2020 Paralympic Games. With the postponement of the Game...s this milestone is now one more year away. In recognition of what 'could have been' our Para-Equestrian athletes will be donning their competition gear and riding their tests at home. We will be sharing this celebration with you each day as we support our riders on their Paralympic journey. "In an ideal world, we would be trotting up the four selected team horses in front of the Tokyo 2020 Ground Jury and Judges today, with the Individual Test Competition starting tomorrow (27th August) but obviously it is not meant to be. "I am disappointed for the riders, their horses and support teams who have put in an enormous amount of effort over the past 18 months, but it is great to see that every one of them has taken the postponement in their stride and are training even harder for 2021. "The Team camaraderie during this time is a testament to the attitudes of each of the athletes and it is great that they are wanting to celebrate what could of been by getting their horses and themselves dressed in their Australian competition gear to ride through the tests that they would have been competing on the world stage. 10.01.2022 Today was emotionally challenging but rewarding. Kipling and I had a run through of the FEI Grade IV Individual Test that we may have been doing at @tokyo2020 today. I think maybe he knew that there was something going on, or maybe he thought we were getting ready to go out to a competition, but Kip put his best foot forward and put on a show. A great test, one I would’ve been pleased with to have in the competition ring. Kirsty has sourced and fitted Kip’s beautiful Custom Saddlery Everest R, and has recently found the perfect fit for one of my clients with the Wolfgang Solo Pony.

02.01.2022 Had a moment of should I post this because we are really working hard developing Kip’s strength, the rhythm and his balance. Whilst the overall picture may be there, there are moments where he loses that balance and rhythm and falls into the hand, but that’s ok. He is trying hard, so am I. I think high performance sport has always appealed to me for the perfection of it, but also for the constant self improvement. Pushing the boundaries, stepping out of the comfort zone ...and not being afraid to make the mistakes, is what allows us to improve. I’m critical on myself, for sure, it’s important that I am. But sometimes I think I need to remember that it’s ok to allow the mistakes of learning to happen. To enjoy the process of the development. I think many riders can relate to this issue: being too much of a perfectionist! So tonight, on the day that we might’ve been headed to Tokyo, I’m going to take time to remember all the good, all the improvement, all the struggle and hard work that’s gotten us here.
