19.01.2022 Stress is a normal reaction to everyday pressures. The acute stress response occurs naturally when we perceive that we are under excessive pressure. The release of stress hormones keeps our body and mind alert to deal with the challenging situation and protect us from harms. Repeated instances of acute stress, however, can pile up to a state of chronic stress where the body's stress response is constantly triggered. Over the years, researchers have gained insight into the lon...g-term effects chronic stress has on physical and mental health, which includes the development of hypertension, increased risk of heart attacks and strokes, reduction of resistance to infection and inflammation, stress-induced sleep disorders, acceleration of brain aging, etc. (Society for Neuroscience, 2018). If you found yourself hard to relax, and/or felt panicky or anxious for most of the time during the last couple of weeks, stress management should become a priority. Self-relaxation techniques such as deep abdominal breathing, visualization of tranquil scenes, Yoga and Tai chi may be helpful to counter the stress response. Acupuncture is another weapon to empower you to put brakes on stress if those self-help strategies dont work well. According to studies (British Acupuncture Council, n.d.), acupuncture treatment stimulate the nervous system and cause the release of neurochemical messenger molecules. The resulting biochemical changes influence the body's homeostatic mechanisms, thus promote physical and emotional well-being and strengthen body resistance against stress. As a cost-effective and drug-free treatment to prevent and reduce stress and prevent stress-induced diseases acupuncture should be considered when choosing a stress-relieving strategy. Acupuncture may be combined with conventional medical treatments to treat stress-induced diseases, possibly enhancing their beneficial effects and reducing unfavorable side-effects. 17.01.2022 In Chinese medicine we see a fundamental connection between our body and mind, humanity and nature, and individuals and society. The COVID19 pandemic also reminds us that health is not merely a medical issue of an individual, but our own responsibility regarding the way we live and how it influences ourselves, our mother nature and our society. When we live in accordance with this holistic principle and keep a harmonious relationship with the laws of nature we will have a greater tendency towards optimal health and wellbeing. ~ on Earth Day 2020

17.01.2022 It doesn't matter whether the injury comes from the sporting arena or the backyard stadium, the fact is, it hurts! And you want to know," How can I get back to normal and back on the field as quickly as possible?" Many athletes regularly seek acupuncture treatment for sport injuries and pain. We dont just treat the pain symptom but actively treat the pain source to reduce swelling and inflammation pain, to increase the range of movement of the affected joint and decrease muscle spasm, to shorten the healing time by improving blood supply to the affected area and disperse edema. To do all of this, acupuncture treatment recreates and maintains the natural free flow of energy through the body so that you can get back on your feet, faster.

16.01.2022 We are at the peak of summer heat and it makes our body difficult to balance. From Chinese medicine perspective, summer heat is an external pathogenic factor characterized by sweltering heat outside attacking the individual's inside. Intense summer heat encourages much more perspiration, which can damage the qi as well as fluids in our body causing summer heat symptoms such as excess body heat, over sweating, dry mouth and throat, dizziness and fatigue. On the other hand, ov...er consumption of cold drinks and preference for cool places are likely to bring about cold and dampness in our body. In humid climate like Gold Coast heat combines with dampness may affect the functions of spleen and stomach causing poor appetite, heaviness in the head and body, nausea and diarrhea. When the temperature is high we switch on the fan or air conditioner to keep cool. However, some people may easily get summer colds when suddenly going from the boiling hot outdoors into a building or boarding a bus where the air conditioner is at full throttle due to extreme temperature changes. Moreover, the cold air tightens sweat pores, keeping summer heat and dampness inside the body instead of releasing it through sweating, which leads to the mixture of exterior cold and interior heat- dampness symptoms. Acupuncture, along with customized Chinese herbal formulas, can be used to help clear summer heat and dampness, harmonize the spleen and stomach and relieve summer cold symptoms, naturally supporting you to stay balanced in this scorching hot weather. Its key to prevent and dispel the pathogenic factor early before it invades deeper in the body and develops into severe heat exhaustion or heat stroke which requires emergency medical treatment.

15.01.2022 When we feel great, a smile comes naturally, smiling is universally considered to be a way we display joy. It is also one of the easiest ways to boost your mood and your health. According to Chinese medicine the heart is the king of all organs, which sets the tone and direction for the rest of the organ systems to follow. And the heart is associated with the emotion of joy! Smiling creates positive emotional energy to soothe the heart and brings a sense of inner peace.Thi...s lets the heart work without overworking. A study published in Psychological Science found smiling can reduce stress levels and lower the heart rate while performing difficult tasks.Even the act of forcing yourself to smile has stress-relief benefits. Just as we smile when we are happy, it turns out the mere act of smiling makes us happy and healthy. Each patient is unique, thereby traditional acupuncture offers an individualized, natural and drug-free alternative approach to clear energy blockages, re-establish the free flow of qi to restore balance, and activate the body's natural healing response. It focuses as much on optimising your health as it does on treating illness. See more

13.01.2022 Do you wake up exhausted and feel like you cant face the day? Do you feel you cannot keep on top of everything and the cracks are starting to show? Did you use to be full of energy, but now that seems like a lifetime ago? These are the warning signs of burnout. Burnout is formally described by WHO as a syndrome that results from chronic, poorly managed workplace stress leading to energy exhaustion, feelings of negativism related to one's job and reduced productivity. If em...otions and desires are constantly suppressed, a feeling of terrible pressure will continuously build up inside you, which slows energy flow and you feel blocked and stuck. This is the most common stress pattern seen in our daily practice. Internalized stress keeps the mind agitated, affects the balance in the nervous system, interferes with the immune system functioning, and further produces many stress-related conditions. This is why we consider each persons experience of burnout individually covering the aspects of emotions and moods, energy levels, digestion, sleep, attitude and more. Treatments not only target signs and symptoms, but always address the root causes and patterns for your holistic recovery. In addition to your treatment we may discuss some lifestyle and dietary changes to enhance the body and mind wellness. Talk to us about the struggles you are going through we may help you overcome the challenges. When supported with acupuncture to unblock the stagnant energy, build up energy levels and release unexpressed emotional blockages you can relax and create space and clarity for solutions to rise to your consciousness. There are many situations you can change and those that you cannot you can approach differently, in a more positive and productive way. #Burnout #Acupuncture #Chinesemedicine #stress

10.01.2022 Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterized by difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, difficulty to fall back to sleep once awaken, even when one has the chance to do so. Long term lack of sleep drains our mental abilities and puts our physical health at real risk. Chinese Medicine offers some insight into treating insomnia and other sleep disorders naturally. The human body is biologically programmed to live in harmony with the rhythm of nature. Sleep is part of the na...tural rhythm of yin and yang in the body. In the daytime when yang energy dominates in nature we are awake and active. At night when yin energy dominates, we naturally go to bed to rest. The yin and yang energies in our bodies wax and wane during a day. Numerous factors such as emotional distress, improper diet and eating habits, physical pain/exhaustion and a weak constitution following extended illness may disrupt ones natural rhythm of yin and yang. Dysfunction of yin-yang interchange, where yang fails to enter yin, causes insomnia. Thus, restoring the balance of yin and yang within the body is the key principle to treat insomnia in Chinese medicine, which involves subdue excessive yang energy and/ or nourish deficient yin energy of the relevant organs. With individualized assessment and treatment, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can address many underlying causes relating to insomnia and help restore balance in body and mind. #insomnia #sleepdisorder #acupuncture #chineseherb #chinesemedicine

04.01.2022 Summer is here as the Solstice and first official day of summer recently arrived. In Chinese Medicine, each season is related to one of the five elements of nature. Summer is ruled by the Fire element and is expressed as heat and the process of maturation taking place under the warmth of the summer sunin nature. The fire element is associated with heart, the king of all organs and its partner small intense in our body and expresses itself as joy in emotion, manifestin...g within us as love, enthusiasm, warmth in human relationshipsand conscious awareness between the heart and mind. As always, Chinese medicine recommends keeping a balance by avoiding extremes. Physically, when the fire element is balanced, the heart properly governs and circulates the blood and ensures proper assimilation of the breakdown of food in the small intestines. Emotionally, when the fire element is balanced, we can become aware of ourselves at our fullest. Sensitivity and expression, true fulfillment and the equilibrium between heart and mind are the greatest rewards. Enjoy creating fresh meals using a wide variety of produce that is ripening so abundantly at this time of year. On the hot days, stay cool by serving cooling-effect fruits and veggies such as salads, sprouts, cucumber and melons. However, avoid overconsumption of cold foods and drinks as this weakens the digestive organs. Drawing on the expansive warmth of Fire in summer we can reach out and relate to the world like a flower opening. Its a time to be laughing with family and friends and enjoy sunny outdoor funs. Meanwhile giving ourselves time for rest and reflection during this season can help balance out the rising energy of the fire and maintain heart and gut health. Merry Christmas! Tune into the summer and share the joy, have a happy & healthy holiday season!

04.01.2022 As we spend more time outdoors enjoying the healing benefits nature has to offer in spring, we inevitably encounter wind. While Wind is present in all seasons, its manifestation is stronger in spring, the season that matches it according to the Five Elements Theory in Chinese philosophy. The human body is a microcosm of the universe, the same climatic energies that are outside are found inside our bodies. Wind in the body resembles the wind in nature, thus, it generates move...ment and produce change and acceleration, causing symptoms to appear and develop quickly. Wind is considered to be the leading pathogen causing many diseases in Chinese medicine. The skin is the bodys largest breathing organ and first line of defense, which is associated with the lungs. When the body is run down the aggressive pathogenic wind will attack the body in combination with other pathogens by penetrating the skin and the pores, causing itchy skin, allergic rashes, and triggering eczema or psoriasis flare-ups or acne breakouts. A combination of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine may be useful in treating these skin concerns without the need for steroids. Dispelling pathogenic wind and dispersing the blocked lung qi is one of the major Chinese medicine treatment strategies, which may be combined with clearing heat, dissolving dampness, soothing the stagnant liver qi, harmonizing qi and blood, etc., depending on other associated signs and symptoms. Isn't it wonderful to embrace nature in this tender and energetic, delicate and vivid season without worrying allergies and skin irritations may ruin your day? Come to experience the power of natural healing. #skinconcerns #chineseherbs #acupuncture

02.01.2022 There is no fixed age to start to benefit from traditional Chinese medicine. Treatment is tailored to suit the elderly right down to babies so all can benefit. A consent form must be signed by the parent/guardian for minor patients under the age of 18 before treatment. The acupuncture needles are very fine and they are inserted with very little pain. The feeling is comparable to a mosquito bite. The needles do not need to be retained or manipulated as much as adult treatments.... A lot of times children respond to treatments quicker than adults and often require fewer treatments. By explaining what's happening and by being very gentle, we guide them through the treatment and things go well, their fear gradually disappears. Parental experience of acupuncture is also helpful. In some circumstances, it is possible to use other methods, such as acupressure, moxibustion heat or gentle cupping.
