22.01.2022 Todsy is World Refugee Day. From 2018 to 2020, Zonta International committed US$1,000,000 to UN Women to improve Syrian refugee and Jordanian women’s access to sustainable and decent employment, coupled with protection services and community leadership/engagement, to enable greater equality and reduced violence against women.
21.01.2022 Currently 62% of social housing tenants are women[1], 61% of people using homelessness services are women, and 66% of unassisted requests for homelessness servi...ces are women[2], so maybe we use these figures to indicate the level of benefit for women. (The Census shows 57% of those counted as homeless to be male and 43&% to be female, which would accord with much womens homelessness being hidden.) In response to COVID-19 the Women Ageing Well campaign will expand its focus on older womens homelessness to advocate for recognition of the increased economic and social inequality that women of all ages have experienced during the pandemic, and the direct impact this has on all womens short and long-term housing security. Below are just some of the aims of our Women Ageing Well campaign in relation to social housing: -increasing the supply of social housing; lowering the qualifying age for priority social housing on the basis of age from 80 years to 55 years; and also ensure people without social housing are able to move quickly to permanent housing. 14.01.2022 Did you know? Without the contribution of feminist activist and leader Hansa Mehta, we would likely be speaking of the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Me...n rather than of Human Rights. Hansa Mehta was an Indian delegate to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights at the time, serving as Vice-Chair to Eleanor Roosevelt. She succeeded in convincing others to use gender neutral language and change All men are born free and equal in Article 1 of the UDHR to All human beings are born free and equal.
14.01.2022 Another amazing woman

08.01.2022 Just listened to a fabulous webinar on homelessness and the impact on older women. Did you know that 405000 women over 45 are at risk of homelessness. In a wealthy country like Australia this should not be happening #atrisk The following women presented compelling arguments of why we should be making changes. The event was recorded so there will be opportunities to listen in the future.
