17.01.2022 got my new spray gun tried it out last night pretty happy with the results took a bit of getting used to the painting systems of today are totally different to the old days back then it was high pressure low volume now its low pressure high volume a quick hit with some 2000 gritt and a buff and this will be a mirror finish getting ready to paint a car for one of my apprentices

14.01.2022 Two years ago a young man knocked on my door looking for work i said no he offered to work for a week for free. He had zero knowledge about cars but for some reason this is what he wanted to do. After a week i told him his lack of knowledge was an issue for me even though he had some very good work ethics i decided to say no . This young man went away found an apprenticeship elswhere and came back a year latter to try again how could i say no , we transfered his apprenticship here and today he starts his third year. how far this young man has come is truely inspirational not once have i regreted my decision. the rest of the team have similar stories and i am damm proud of all of them. this is who will keep this industry going when im not around any more.....

14.01.2022 before and after of a new rust treatment we do

14.01.2022 Barra needle roller thrust kits back in stock these are the thinest bearing with highest roller count available NOTE .... machine work required to fit supplied with instructions we use these on all of our big builds on various engine types you will never destroy a thrust bearing or crank again once these are fitted correctly so its definitely worth the effort ..... $188.00

14.01.2022 Sometimes i can really stuff myself up..... for those of you who know me you know i most definitely dont do this for the money and if i see something that i dont like or can make better then im going to do it.... small block chevys have a camshaft design that i dont like solution convince customer to buy a set of offset rods and bore cam tunnel for larger journal camshaft simples hmmmm not quit didnt factor the anulous for oil transfer so to fix this problem raise mill head 750mm special jig to hold block etc etc etc many thousands of dollars latter these two blades are the last pieces of the puzzel so now i can cut the anulous in the cam tunnel journals and finish this engine at this rate definitely will NEVER be rich but my customer wont break his engine either hahahaha

13.01.2022 billet caps all doweled to the barra block now to dowel the girdle on ....

13.01.2022 nice action shot from the weekend

12.01.2022 Barra the world they say.....

12.01.2022 A massive thank you all you guys that shared my post to all the holden pages it really is appreciated , thank you ....

12.01.2022 so we finally got the dowels and the machine is free so we can fix this small block chevy. now there is always the right way or the right way to do things yes we could just dowel the caps and not worry about this wear on the registers and the capa but the cap will only be touching half the register so we mill this nice and flat then dowel the caps of course then we need to line bore and then line hone the main tunnel and yes its a PITA but if your going to fix something fix it dont just half do it and yes it all takes time but how long the engine lives depends on all these little details like i tell my boys the difference between an engine and an awesome engine is in the fine details..... PS....for those interested a perfect tunnel will make about 10 hp per 500 more than a tunnel that is not perfectly true and straight....

11.01.2022 time to dowel some billet barra caps

10.01.2022 stage one of a lot

10.01.2022 when yhey say direct replacement i yhink they mean br prepared to modify modify and then modify some more if you want yo fit these parts correctly

06.01.2022 almost 4 weeks to get ten studs from the US i dont know why its taking so long but i am grateful they did finally turn up now if the dowels could just get here i can keep another engine moving along too

06.01.2022 one of the boys cut his finger at home working his drift car went to docs they took care of it and this morning he was at work now he could have gotten a week off work but he didnt he knows he is needed and every bit helps im sure if i treated him like crap as a lot of shops treat their apprentices it would be a different story we want the young ones to learn and give it go but then do nothing to foster their motivation i hear some real horror stories yes there are some lazy ones out there but i wonder how many slip through the cracks simply because they get treated like crap.....

05.01.2022 the Spool cranks for the Barras are definitly a nice bit of gear but it does seem to standard practice on no matter which brand crank you buy these days that you do have to finish off the journals luckily they do leave enough material to do a nice micro polish on them.....

05.01.2022 my boys are starting to play up a bit so time for some punishment lol

05.01.2022 finishing touches to a pair of rectagle port LS heads

05.01.2022 Our good friends Dave and Stacey Gauldie having some fun.....

05.01.2022 the last bloke must have been scared he was going to hit the edge

05.01.2022 and easy as that once its finished it all looks so easy but the time it takes to do all this stuff sometimes boggles the mind

04.01.2022 Blessed...... i know ive said this before but i have to say it again i am so lucky that i have my team they are a great bunch of young men who are at the shop every morning rain hail or shine with smiles on their faces ready to give it 110% for another day not one of them is a clock watcher and i can say whole heartedly not one has EVER asked is it time for to go home yet if we have to stay back a little i have never heard a complaignt or seen a sour ...face. They are like sponges and i sometimes marvel at how far they have come and how much they have learned. Yes i am truely blessed to have them and hope that each one is here after they finish their apprenticeships. With all of my health issues that i have the shop would never be able to put out the volume or quality of work that it does. I am damm proud of each and every one of them and if any of them are reading this thank you for making our little shop what it is...... See more

04.01.2022 Connor's home video of some of our work,,,,

04.01.2022 a bit of secret squirel Saturday even on my days off im here doors closed and alone playing engines good thing i like this stuff ay hahaha

04.01.2022 this would be the strongest Barra bottom end you can build billet main caps doweled into the block girdle keyd into the caps bolted all together with a torrington thrust bearing i think would be pretty hard to get any better

03.01.2022 when a block is decked out of square this is what you have to do to get the manifold to seal correctly against the heads no not ghe best way but it is the easiest and means the bottom end doesnt have to be removed and stripped NO we didnt do the bottom end

02.01.2022 one of our custom carbs sent interstate all fitted up and ready to test .....

01.01.2022 i brought the boys over to Stradbroke island for long weekend for a bit of rest and bonding and to get away from cars for a bit the weather is not the best but good company and good food and the weather becomes less of an issue all in all i think its a great weekend i would like to think the rest of the Zox team think the same.....

01.01.2022 a batch of holden 308 rear main seals finished and ready to fit if anyone knows how to share this to a 308 / 355 page it would be greatly appreciated....
