19.01.2022 Tech Talk - Battery protection A very important area of technology for all devices that use batteries that are charged while inside the device itself is protection of the battery from over charging or charge related issues. The existing battery protection schemes are multi-layered and been around for as many years and when Li-Ion batteries where released the existing methods were transposed and developed further.... So for many years there has been battery cell monitoring, charge monitoring, temperature monitoring and solutions put in place to control all these elements to ensure that there isn't an issue for the battery or user if the conditions fall outside the required safe charging parameters. Some devices get left on charge over night which is not recommended as you should do it while you are awake and able to respond to any issues quickly. And there are some devices that get left on charge for days or weeks even (some are longer still) and typically these are the Wi-Fi Hotspots, gateways or data devices. So in these cases where the device could be left on charge for extend periods of time we have developed a simple solution. If you leave the device on charge past it's fully charged time, then the device will drop it's battery level down to 65% and maintain the battery charge at that level until it has been removed from charge. To be able to recharge to 100% battery capacity you will need to have used the device for awhile and power cycled the device as per typical use or just unplug and plug back in immediately, it depends on the device. This has been done on a number of devices as a safety protocol when left on charge for extended periods of time and these are typically Mobile Hotspots. The latest device to get this treatment is the MF985T or Telstra 4GX Hotspot. http://www.ztemobiles.com.au/MF985T.htm For those users that leave a Hotspot on charge all the time this feature is for your protection.

08.01.2022 Purchasing devices from online channels may not get you what you want. There are several important things that you should ask or know before purchasing a device, especially if the purchase is from a seller online using eBay or Gumtree etc. Firstly, is the device one of our Demonstration devices.... The demonstration devices ownership is between ZTE Australia and the carrier and these are not ever for sale or to be sold. At the end of the device sale period they should be returned to the warehouse. But sometimes these devices are sold online and users are told by the seller, go ask ZTE to update the software... Sorry but that will never happen as they belong to us and are for promotion in store only. They should be returned to the seller and get a refund or another device that is not a demonstration device. Secondly, If the device is used, then you should confirm that it is not Google Locked. Google Lock is a security feature where if a Android handset is factory defaulted while there is a secured Google account active on the handset, then the first thing that the start up wizard will ask is for the previous Google account to be entered. This security step can not be bypassed by an end user. Proof of ownership would be required and if you find that your newly purchased device is Google Locked request the seller to provide the account details or if they can't get a refund. Lastly is unlocking and knowing what a device supports frequency wise. We get alot of users remembering the good old days where you could unlock a device and it works on all networks. And that was true, until 2G was switched off. With 2G now gone we have only 3G and 4G networks and the carriers don't have the same network frequencies / bands in 3G or 4G. And their usage / coverage is very different too. The rule of thumb for many of our carrier specific models is that they only have the frequencies / bands for that carrier. Unlocking the device doesn't add to the frequency set supported. What unlocking does allow is for you to use other MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) carriers that use the network that we designed the device for in the first place. So a Telstra device when unlocked will let you use SIM's from Belong, Orange, Aldi Mobile etc.. But it will not work correctly on Optus or Vodafone due to the different network designs and frequencies used. So you can get some great bargains online, but you can also reduce the risk of having issues by dealing with the correct channels for the devices.
