10.01.2022 Say hello to our new projector! We've invested in a state-of-the-art laser projector to bring the cinema in line with the very highest industry standards. We've... been saving for many years for this upgrade, at $150K it is a serious investment for a not for profit like us. We knew that the old projector didn't have much life left so started looking for a replacement in 2019. When this one became available we knew it would be the perfect fit. For the technically minded - the new projector is native 4K, with the brightness and contrast of an IMAX cinema. The projector is a 35,000 lumen laser phosphor projector. It's liquid cooled with hoses carrying coolant to wall mounted cooling units. We'll be testing it over the next couple of nights to get it ready to premiere on Friday at the opening night of the Darwin International Film Festival - so excited! 08.01.2022 Thank you everyone for your support so this year, but we need your help again. Darwin City Council will vote on developing the Esplanade car-park on Tuesday at ...5.30pm. Deckchair Cinema members and supporters are invited to come and show your support at the meeting. It is plain to see that a two story club on the hill behind the screen at the cinema will be disruptive and 10,000 people signed a petition urging the council protect the Deckchair Cinema and the Esplanade green-space. Despite all of this the council CEO has put his recommendation into the council agenda to support developing the Esplanade carpark. If you are coming to the council meeting to show your support please come five minutes early and remember to bring ID to be allowed in. It's at the Civic Centre on Harry Chan Avenue. 06.01.2022 Today at 5.30 pm the Council will vote on whether to support for the Esplanade development. We will be attending the meeting, and encourage our members and supp...orters to be there too. Our members are concerned that the noise from a club so close will disturb the cinema, a community organisation that through the hard work of volunteers and members has grown to be one of the most important attractions for the city with 50,000 visits in 2019. Our members are also concerned that the council is considering developing the precious Esplanade public space that has been protected for all the people of Darwin to enjoy for many years. If you are coming to the meeting you will need ID to come in, wear a Deckchair t-shirt if you have one and be 5-10 minutes early - it is first on the agenda. Please be respectful and courteous to the Council staff and others attending and please don't interrupt the meeting.
