25.01.2022 Mothers Day 2020. What lovely weather Mother Nature put on for us today. It was such a beautiful day for a walk to 10 Mile Brook Dam, finishing with a bbq with a few friends. Social distancing is easy in the bush. There are so many great walking trails in the Margaret River Region. We are so blessed to live in such a great part of the world. 16.01.2022 Its been a great flowering year for our Stenocarpus sinuatus, (firewheel tree), with its wonderful weird and whacky flowers. The Firewheel Tree is an Australian rainforest tree in the Protea family. Its natural habitat is in the rainforests between Northern New South Wales and the Atherton Tableland in tropical Queensland. We have several trees around 15 years old growing in our garden. 12.01.2022 Hedge maintenance is well underway. Its a huge job to hedge this, usually taking a few months, 5 days a week, a couple of hours a day before guests arrive. Its ahead of schedule this year, as we are able to do as many hours a day as is physically possible. Its not an easy task and Bruce does and incredible job. 12.01.2022 Eucalyptus erythrocorys (illyarrie, red-capped gum or helmet nut gum) is one of the most spectacular trees when in flower. The flowers are in groups of three and each has four tufts of golden stamens at each of the "corners". The flowers are preceded by large rectangular scarlet buds and are followed by large helmet-shaped fruit. Generally these Mallee trees are found between Shark Bay and Jurien Bay in WA. They survive very well in our garden. . Here we have them interplanted with a colourful range of Dianthus under our Crepuscule roses.
