25.01.2022 Bioluminescence in Tasmania

24.01.2022 What an incredible moment to witness! These humpback whales were seen near White Beach on the Tasman Peninsula yesterday. : Kathrin Seels @ruffitmedia

24.01.2022 The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with experiences, and hence there is no gr...eater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun." ~ Christopher McCandless (American Hiker) To see our Milky Way over Pirates Bay at Eaglehawk Neck is definitely a tick off the bucket list, descending Frenchmans Cap is to hike one of the most remarkable mountain peaks in the world, a pathway of 130-odd stairs takes you to an unforgettable experience inside Remarkable Cave, the jagged contours of Cradle Mountain epitomise the feel of a wild landscape whilst the view is nothing short of breathtaking and you have to see the colour of the water at the Bay of Fires to believe it. Mt Murchison on our west coast is remarkable for a crater-like physiognomy (not a true crater, but a glacial cirque), to venture into Arm River Falls is to walk the ‘Interpretive Loop’ through lovely forest, the gorgeous Callington Mill is the only working example of a Georgian Mill in the southern hemisphere, The Nut which is actually a volcanic plug is one of the most distinctive landmarks in Tasmania and the magic of Melaleuca begins before your feet even touch the ground. Oh and did we mention a King Penguin travelled over 1,700 km’s to visit us from Macquarie Island and we capture a sunrise from the ‘Edge of the World’. 20.01.2022 The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens remains OPEN to visitors. However, the Tasmanian Government advises that the visitor services facilities within the Garden...s are temporarily closed until further notice (this includes The Visitor Hub, Botanical Shop, Succulent Restaurant and The Subantarctic Plant House). Sprout Café is open for takeaway service. This closure is aimed to protect our visitors, staff and volunteers and to meet requirements for social distancing. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

19.01.2022 Remarkable Cave reopens to the public following staircase upgrade Visitors to Remarkable Cave on the Tasman Peninsula will be able to experience the beauty of ...the caves’ unique sandstone rock face from the viewing platform via an upgraded staircase, with the iconic attraction reopening today for visitors to enjoy. Remarkable Cave has become a must see destination, and this upgrade provides improved safety for those using the stairs. The works follow the completion of improved infrastructure at the Tasman Peninsula site including new parking; more efficient and safer one way roads; a new coastal viewing area with improved accessibility; cave viewing area improvements and a renovated toilet. Those visiting the Remarkable Cave can also enjoy new walking tracks from the Remarkable Cave to Crescent Bay and Mount Brown. Discover Tasmania Hobart & Beyond

16.01.2022 Hobart is beautiful this morning. Bellerive Beach

16.01.2022 It's snowing :-) Right now

16.01.2022 "To walk into Nature is to witness a thousand miracles." ~ Mary Davis Enjoy these beautiful destinations that will inspire plenty of adventures to come. One ...of those magical misty frozen mornings from Candlestick Farm in the Huon Valley, the Walls of Jerusalem covered in winter snow are a truly incredible sight, cuteness overload looking at a gorgeous New Zealand Fur Seal at Don Heads on Devonport's north-west coast, a hidden gem of a waterfall on the Franklin River and we discover a remote beach in Tassie's far south-west where once the Needwonee people roamed this beach gathering the plentiful abalone turbin shellfish. Cockle Creek is such a beautiful place to visit and also known as the 'end of the road' being the farthest point south you can drive in Tasmania, a very cool winter's view from the lookout on the summit of kunanyi/Mt Wellington is worth the chill, those times when when your patience is rewarded with a pretty cute pademelon turning up to give you the biggest smile, the orange lichen-covered dolerite boulders at Bicheno's on Tassie's east coast are oh so beautiful, Saint Valentines Peak is a stand alone mountain and as such presents unhindered views from Frenchmans Cap in the far west to the sea in the north of the state plus is also spotted with beautiful mossy Myrtle forests and not only does the West Coast Wilderness Railway take you through beautiful rainforest but the smells of the forest are incredible . Oh and did we mention a winter wonderland in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park with views of a beautiful pastel sunset behind Cradle Mountain and Barn Bluff from just near Marions Lookout will forever be etched in your memory. 15.01.2022 Foggy Hobart : @jeon_landscapes

15.01.2022 'Out of this world' bioluminescence is back Over the last few days bioluminescence has been captured all over Tasmania. Here are some stunning images of th...is amazing phenomenon. The microscopic organisms that create this wonderful sight are called Noctiluca scintillans. The light they produce is known as bioluminescence which is produced inside the organism by a chemical reaction... especially when the organisms are agitated say by stones splashing in the water or walking through the water yourself Bioluminescence was first spotted in Tasmania 1994, seemingly carried down by the East Australia Current. Since then it has been steadily increasing its presence until now it is actually a fairly regular sight. We have been asked a lot: What do I look for, how can I see it?... well a common name for this kind of bioluminescence bloom is ‘red tide’. During the day the water won’t be glowing neon blue but instead will be a pinkish to red murky colour. Hence the name ‘red tide’. Something to look out for during the day is the water won’t be glowing neon blue but instead will be a pinkish to red murky colour hence the name ‘red tide’. Bioluminescent organisms use their light for the same reasons we do, to navigate, detect food, attract mates and stay safe Want to know more about this spectacular phenomenon? Here is an excellent article all about the amazing bioluminscence thanks to Fiona Gumboots Walsh from Gumboots http://thegumbootchronicles.com/red-tide-that-is-blue We love to share your Tassie videos, photos and stories with the world You can inbox us or post to our wall. 13.01.2022 Look who came out to play in the hundreds (or thousands) along the Freycinet Peninsula. What an awesome sight for our Wineglass Bay Cruises guests and a fantastic capture from Seth Tonks.

12.01.2022 "I watched the surrounding landscape with great curiosity, and I wanted to discover the words that could describe all its unspoiled beauty." ~ Daniel J. Rice ... For it is the pristine and untouched nature of Tasmania's wild lands that will not only once again put the biggest smiles upon our faces but a day full of only the richest of memories... one day at a time. What a treat it will be to spend a magic evening at The Blade watching a remarkable sunset over Tasman Island, there is a place call Tragonia Corner on Maria Island with breathtaking views of Mt Maria, the Tessellated Pavement comes alive when sunrise reflects off the amazing rock formations, to witness a sunset over Tent Tarn at Cathedral Mountain deep in Tasmania's Central Highlands has to be on your list and there are very few who have ever heard of a remote hut with an open fireplace over 1000 metres above sea level in the Never Never Lookout region (yes it exists) between the Walls of Jerusalem and Overland Track... we take you there! Lady Aurora came to visit us this week all across Tasmania, magical cloud inversion sunrises from the takayna/Tarkine rainforest are a regular occurrence, however a breathtaking sunset from the Hobart waterfront with lenticular cloud formations in the most perfect spot above kunanyi/Mt Wellington is pretty rare, whilst deep in the Tasmanian wilderness we find the fabled Reynolds Falls and for pure pristine and untouched views over Maria Island simply head to the summit of Bishop and Clerk. Oh and did we mention we capture an amazing view of the stunning Winterbrook Falls which drop 75 metres from a mountain top into a natural amphitheater on the western side of Black Bluff in north-west Tasmania.
