24.01.2022 Punctuation is fun! https://www.irishtimes.com//why-punctuation-is-not-just-fo

23.01.2022 "The editor will approach the document with a lifetime of language experience and a knowledge base of facts, perceptions and memories ... all crucially overlaid with empathy and sensitivity to the author’s written word." Intelligent Editing sets out why editors needn't worry about artificial intelligence.

23.01.2022 Shameless boasting about positive feedback on the blog today. Fair warning given! https://accessediting.com.au/2017/06/28/testimonial/

22.01.2022 My top 10 reasons to invest in the services of a professional editor, in my blog today. https://accessediting.com.au//10-signs-you-should-invest-/

20.01.2022 My latest blog piece puts the case for inclusive language (and introduces a fun new acronym).

20.01.2022 Good advice for PhD students wondering about having their thesis edited (and a reminder that I'm an IPEd Accredited Editor!) http://redwritinghood.blogs.latrobe.edu.au//to-edit-or-not

20.01.2022 I'm absolutely not a word snob or a pedant. I believe language evolves over time. (I even like a good swearing session every now and then, given the right place and time.) But I do have my limits. On the blog today: conflicted feelings over 'deconfliction'. https://accessediting.com.au//i-have-a-confliction-about-/

19.01.2022 Super sleuth editing today. I'm working on a piece that uses 'primordial' to mean the beginning of a theory. It's technically okay, but it doesn't sit well. 'Primordial' is usually used in a science or literary context, and this is a sociological piece. After a digging a bit, I found that in Spanish 'primordial' is closely related to 'fundamental'. Bingo! The author is from Mexico, and 'fundamental' is a perfect fit.

18.01.2022 My latest blog post: part 2 of my report on the IPEd conference. https://accessediting.com.au//09/25/iped-conference-part-2/

11.01.2022 Emma Hardman writes beautifully about the challenges of transcription editing. https://griffithreview.com/articles/word-for-word/

10.01.2022 Thesis editing is a growing market, but there are some rules around what's ethical. I'm blogging here about how PhD and Masters students can be sure they're getting value for money at this exciting, and often stressful, time. https://accessediting.com.au//thesis-editing-whats-in-and/

10.01.2022 Getting a quote for editing? Make sure if feels right for you. https://accessediting.com.au//just-starting-to-figure-out/

09.01.2022 I love the general knowledge I discover in this job. Before today, I didn't know that we're in the UN International Decade for Action on: * Nutrition (until 2025) * People of African Descent (until 2024) * Sustainable Energy for All (until 2024)... * Eradication of Colonialism (until 2020) * Biodiversity (until 2020) * Action for Road Safety (until 2020) * Deserts and the Fight against Desertification (until 2020). No wonder we all feel so busy!

07.01.2022 Industry jargon is so much fun. On my latest project, I learned: * ingo * outgo * hoardings * highlighted verticality... * a range of acronyms for jobs I'd never much thought about but now seem really quite important to helping me navigate my way through a shopping centre! See more

07.01.2022 Today's blog post is about spending less time on book-keeping (so I can spend more time on book-reading). https://accessediting.com.au/2017/07/12/the-dull-stuff/

06.01.2022 Get your message across by ensuring you don't leave anyone out. Great piece by the makers of PerfectIt. https://intelligentediting.com//five-ways-to-help-your-wr/

05.01.2022 My latest blog post: my fabulous trip to Brisbane for an editing conference. https://accessediting.com.au/2017/09/18/editors-on-the-road/

05.01.2022 A great piece about keeping up-to-date with modern usage, and knowing that some writing choices are just a matter of style.

04.01.2022 As a freelancer, flexibility rules! And that gives me the space for the odd pro bono job, which is an absolute joy. https://accessediting.com.au///23/the-freelance-lifestyle/
