23.01.2022 Unfortunately, the next edition of the AFL International Cup, Australian Rules #Football’s international amateur tournament, has been suspended. The triennial event was originally scheduled to take place this year on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, but was postponed until mid-2021 because of Covid-19. The Australian Football League said the ongoing restrictions on international travel and uncertainty around team availability has forced them to cancel the event but conditions will be reviewed mid next year on whether it can be staged in 2022 or 2023. The AFL Indonesia Garudas have competed in 2014 and 2017.

21.01.2022 Our wonderful Ana Surjanto, "Asia’s first female AFL-accredited coach", is again featured in a publication of her Australian alma mater, Monash University. This time she recalls her immersion into Melbourne's Aussie Rules footy culture through the Krakatoas Football Club and, since her return to teaching in Indonesia, promoting the Australian-style football game in Java and Bali with AFL Indonesia and the Australia-Indonesia Youth Association (AIYA). My aim is to empower women in my community, she says. And being happy and cooperating with their friends at training is about empowerment ... Aussie rules is not just for sport, but for inclusion and cultural integration. Full story: https://lens.monash.edu//1381/afl-bridges-cultures-in-java

One of them, Ana Surjanto, a Masters student at Monash University, has since returned to Indonesia to teach and has used her AFL coaching study and Krakatoas experience to make a change for women at her Islamic boarding school, Mahad Al-Jamiah of IAIN Salatiga Central Java. She believes Footy can be used... to empower women by developing leadership skills, teamwork and promoting healthy and happy life and can be an effective way to build understanding between Indonesian and Australian culture, to build unity, to maintain tolerance, and to build peace between Indonesia and Australia. She and her students have made a short movie of this journey Footy - Mahad #SheCan and have entered it into the 2019 ReelOzInd Short Film Festival. The outcomes - personally for our members, and eventually the Indonesian Australian relationship - are captured naturally in this video - with some recreations to add context - that Ana and her students have created. 16.01.2022 In Australia, football helps commemorate the annual Anzac Day, the national remembrance for all those who have died in the service of Australias defence forces. Last year, one of the games most famous players and coaches, Ron Barassi, received a special guernsey from the Melbourne Football Club, listing its 30 players who had died in military uniform, including his own father. Ron senior was the first AFL player lost in the Second World War, at Tobruk in North Africa in 194...1. His last game for was for Melbourne FC in the 1940 Grand Final, when his Demons were victorious against the Richmond Tigers. Three of his teammates on that day, Keith Bluey Truscott, Syd Anderson and Harold Ball would also be lost in WWII. The Melbourne FC Best & Fairest Awards are named in their honour. Ron Jr was four years of age when his father died and, when he made his debut for Melbourne Demons 12 years later, he would be wearing his fathers number 31 jumper.

08.01.2022 Australian expats of the Jakarta Bintangs Football Club relax with the AFL Indonesia Garudas - Indonesias national indigenous Aussie Rules football squad - after their Indonesian Independence Day game in Jakarta. The mentoring Bintangs narrowly reversed the up-and-coming Garudas Australia Day win. All eyes now on the possibility of the Garudas playing in their third consecutive AFL International Cup in Melbourne in August 2020 ... and also paving the way for a womens team.... Unfortunately their participation will be difficult given the reduced numbers of Australians currently resident in Jakarta/West Java and Balikpapan/Kalimantan, where much of the volunteer effort for funding and developing local players has been generated. 07.01.2022 20 March 2020: Due to the spread of Coronavirus, the AFL International Cup 2020 is to be postponed for 12 months The AFL has decided the 2020 AFL International Cup will be postponed until July-August 2021 and will be played on the Sunshine Coast. The AFL International Cup was scheduled to be played from July 25 to August 8 2020.... AFL General Manager Game Development Andrew Dillon said the uncertainty caused by COVID-19 had prompted the decision. This decision was not made lightly but our first priority is the health and wellbeing of players and their support staff, Mr Dillon said. We hoped to still hold the carnival in 2020 but with uncertainty with international travel to Australia and the expected spread of COVID-19 we wanted to give participants as much notice as possible to postpone travel arrangements. "We hope all participants understand the decision and we look forward to welcoming all to the Sunshine Coast in 2021. "We would also and thank our strategic partners in the Sunshine Coast Council and Tourism Events Queensland for their support at this time. Dates for 2021 will be confirmed when the 2021 Toyota AFL Premiership Season fixture is released in late October. The seventh AFL International Cup will include mens and womens teams from North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. Teams solely composed of footballers who are nationals of the country they represent. No expatriates are eligible to play. https://www.afl.com.au/international-cup

06.01.2022 The Australian Institute of Sport has released the National Cabinet endorsed FRAMEWORK FOR REBOOTING SPORT IN A COVID-19 ENVIRONMENT." The download link is below. The intro: Sport makes an important contribution to the physical, psychological and emotional well-being of Australians. The economic contribution of sport is equivalent to 2-3% of Gross Domestic Product. ... The COVID-19 pandemic has had devastating effects on communities globally, leading to significant restrictions on all sectors of society, including sport. Resumption of sport can significantly contribute to the re-establishment of normality in Australian society. The Australian Institute of Sport, in consultation with sport partners (National Institute Network Directors, NIN Chief Medical Officers, National Sporting Organisation Presidents, NSO Performance Directors and NSO CMOs), has developed a framework to inform the resumption of sport. National Principles for Resumption of Sport were used as a guide in the development of the AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport in a COVID-19 Environment (the AIS Framework); and based on current best evidence, and guidelines from the Australian Federal Government, extrapolated into the sporting context by specialists in sport and exercise medicine, infectious diseases and public health. The principles outlined in this document apply equally to high performance/professional level, community competitive and individual passive (non-contact) sport. The AIS Framework is a timely tool for how reintroduction of sport activity will occur in a cautious and methodical manner, to optimise athlete and community safety. Decisions regarding the timing of resumption of sporting activity (the when) must be made in close consultation with Federal, State/Territory and Local Public Health Authorities. The priority at all times must be to preserve public health, minimising the risk of community transmission Download PDF: https://www.pm.gov.au//attachb-ais-framework-rebooting-spo
