25.01.2022 A fine action shot of the Founder.

25.01.2022 In the below video Chicko Xerri Sensei provides unique insights as to the link between the sword and the nikyo shape, including how it may inform our Aiki practice.

25.01.2022 Aikido Special Self Defense Technique by Ryuji Shirakawa

24.01.2022 Please Note the very beginning of the video I hope its helpfull to some. Move Yourself or be crushed.. ... Its for consideration.. Change Yourself, find Unity, Gather and Swallow all profundity in one breath. In your technique, aim for the Beginning and End to be near to instantaneous. A sensitive Uke will respond accordingly. .Move is best. Uke: Mr. Sharples.

23.01.2022 Some happy snaps from Saturdays Easter class where we explored Aiki otoshi (Blending drop). I always enjoy exploring this Aiki application, but its not without challenges. For example, the ukemi to receive it safely is a little different. Its also necesary to avoid using strength in its application. To do so is not only futile but contains an inherent high risk of lower back strain. Finally, the practice of Aiki otishi requires the nage and uke to take extra special care to look out for each other. A message that Aiki and Easter have in common.

23.01.2022 Koshi nage made in Kanai Sensei

22.01.2022 Classes for 2020 start tomorrow (4 Jan) at usual times of 10.00am for Saturdays and 7.30pm for Wednesdays. All welcome!

22.01.2022 1930 Visit of the Founder of Judo (Jigaro Kano) to the dojo mejiro to look at the techniques of Morihei Ueshiba. Professor Kano descibed what he saw as "the ideal budo - the real judo".

22.01.2022 Absolutely extraordinary.

22.01.2022 Some main points that might help training with a markedly tall person (when we finally get back to the mat) 1) Move your entire body as one unit, drop your cen...ter 2) Maintain proper distance to lengthen and leverage your Uke 3) Take balance and stay outside the sphere of Ukes strength 4) Try not to reach for Uke. If you suspect you are, then you probably are 5) When doing Irimi commit fully, enter obliquely Any other suggestions?

21.01.2022 The below video was filmed at the end of todays class and features moments in creative Aiki practice imagined and applied in a moment in time by class participants. The Aiki applications are accordingly unscripted and not intended to be replications of aikido syllabus techniques. However, the Aikido technique that inspired and underpins the "feeling" of each application is listed for reference purposes. Big thankyou to everyone for training safely and a shout out to Karen for her video skills!

19.01.2022 Some after class experimentation with koshinage applied from traditional sankyo.

19.01.2022 In the below video Takeda Satoshi Sensei (7th Dan AKI Aikikai) demonstrates the application of key Aiki principles for Suwari waza where the uke strikes the temple of the nage (shomen). Sensei's teachings also bring home the concept that when faced with an immovable force, engaging in pointless resistance is futile. The better option is to instead move yourself.

18.01.2022 Happy one year anniversary at the dojo Karen!

18.01.2022 Gyakuhanmi uchi sankyo ura waza.

18.01.2022 Chicko Xerri ( Demonstration for Doshu Ueshiba at Kamakura Hachimungu Shrine.)

17.01.2022 Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all.

16.01.2022 In Class Explanations. Please excuse any violent inferences. The exersize is to follow lines of intention and movement awareness based on sword parry and Maai.

14.01.2022 In the below video, Chicko Xerri Sensei, explains the concept that a yokomen strike is in essence a variation of a shomen strike.

14.01.2022 Some of our new weapons and Aiki accessories order arrived today, just in time for Christmas. A fun after-class video to celebrate their arrival!

14.01.2022 2 years ago I had the pleasure to meet and train for the first time with Takeda Satoshi Shihan. He was one of the most time generous senior Japanese teachers I have ever had the good fortune to meet. The standout memories of the Sunshine Coast seminars (and his special class at our dojo) was senseis effortless ability to take a ukes balance (even under full resistance) and his indepth knowledge of battlefield pinning techniques. The below video comprises footage taken at the Sunday seminar session at Noosa. (Ian Grant, Dojo Cho). https://vimeo.com/244507761

13.01.2022 Happy Christmas, Aiki fellows

13.01.2022 Beautifully filmed presentation of Aikido featuring Patricia Hendricks Sensei.

11.01.2022 Some happy snaps from this Saturdays class. Big thanks to Karen for taking them.

11.01.2022 Recent in class explanations.

10.01.2022 In the below video Chicko Xerri Sensei explains some of the key aspects of the role of ukemi in our dojo practice. Notably, ukemi is not just viewed as being about rolling, but seen as a mechanism to ensure we survive techniques unharmed. The benefits of having an adaptive mind and flexible response when receiving technique are also explored.

10.01.2022 NEW YEAR VIDEO GREETING - AIKIDO DOSHU MORITERU UESHIBA Happy New Year, everyone. I am incredibly pleased to be able to greet another day. Last year was a year... where the world was at the mercy of the novel corona virus. The Aikido world was no exception to this, as even Hombu Dojo was not able to hold practices for a period of time. Even now, there are many countries and areas in which practice cannot resume. For these countries and regions, there was no choice but to delay or cancel the events they had been planning. It is still difficult to see the future. However, we are able to welcome the new year happily. From here, we begin a new year, and to make this year better than the previous and full of hope, we must proceed firmly. Let us move carefully and firmly supporting the spirit of wago no kokoro* (our hearts as one) Cultivated through the practice of Aikido and the bonds cultivated by spirit of respecting each other. 10.01.2022 Happy snaps from this weeks Wednesday and Saturday adult classes.

09.01.2022 Merry Christmas from all of us at Aikido Warrior Fudoshin Dojo. Thank you to those who participated in our training this year for your contributions to our practice, keeping our dojo safe, good humour and outstanding company. Thank you also to Chicko Sensei for your continuing support of our dojo and inspiration. Take care during the festive season and we look forward to meeting again next year.

09.01.2022 Age should not be seen as a barrier to successful Aiki practice. However, as we progress it is necessary to change the way we practice to allow us to train with the same intensity without injury. This includes those of us with "dodgy knees", particularly when engaging in hanmi handachi and suwari waza. Realistically, knee walking is out and the less we move around the mat on our knees the better. With this in mind, see below a video showing how we train tenchi nage from hanmi handachi at our dojo.

08.01.2022 Newcastle seminar. We always have good times together. Continued success with many blessings to you all.

08.01.2022 Ian, Jeremy and Pete kokyu training circa 2017.

07.01.2022 At the Malta AiKiKai with Zsolt Palfalusi Uke.

07.01.2022 A fine example of flowing Aikido practice at its most visually mesmerizing.

05.01.2022 Koshinage from sankyo

05.01.2022 Congratulations guys and a big hi there to all our Budo friends at the Sunshine Coast. Great to see you all back on the mat.

05.01.2022 Following on from Wednesday's class, see below video from a 2017 seminar given by Takeda Satoshi Shihan at Aikido Kenkyukai International Fudoshin Dojo Australia, Sunshine Coast. In the video, Sensei gives his insights on a range of aiki applications including those arising from Ai hanmi katate dori ikkyo. Shout out to dojo friend Steve Binder for allowing us to share his video.

04.01.2022 See below a link containing reference materials (including videos of senior Aikido practitioners) relevant to our training this week. Thanks everyone for training safely this week. Have a great long weekend. https://theaikidowarrior.com/training-notes-reference-mate/

04.01.2022 Happy new year! Heres hoping the story of 2020 is filled with laughter, kindness and plenty of initiatives to make this world a better place for all.

03.01.2022 Back by popular demand, Sensei Patricia Hendricks and Sensei Hoa Newens, No Mats, No Problem ;-)

02.01.2022 A couple of happy snaps from the first class for 2020!

02.01.2022 COVID19 may have paused our partnered training for awhile, but we can still practise our falling arts and rolling. Below is an excellent and insightful video featuring Donovan Waite Sensei showing the basics of how to do a forward roll.

01.01.2022 Those who master the art of falling have no fear of getting back up.

01.01.2022 Hi everyone. The dojo will be open for training at 10.00 -11.30 tomorrow (28/12/2019). All welcome.
