14.01.2022 A Little Mouse Tail was told to us by our grandfather, who learnt it from his father, and his grandfather; going back 6 generations that we know of. Relatives around the world all remember the childhood story and are passing it on to new generations. My father told me recently of a day at the beach he spent with my grandfather, in his final years. He was deeply affected by Alzheimer’s disease. Anyone who has witnessed a path into Alzheimer’s will know only too well the de...vastating effects it has on personality and memory. However, for all those dark days, sufferers with Alzheimer’s can often demonstrate surprising moments of clarity - albeit too briefly. For some time now, the conversations had become one sided. As one of Dad’s many efforts to engage, he started to recite the Mouse’s Tail; and to his complete amazement, my grandfather took over and finished the story then went back to his ice-cream. This story has been beautifully brought to life through the illustrations of the artist, Kathleen Wilson. This has enabled us to create a children’s book, whose message can now be enjoyed by many; and in doing so can raise both money and awareness to help fight Alzheimer’s disease in Australia and New Zealand. The number of Australians and New Zealanders with Alzheimer’s and the various forms of dementia is set to double every 20 years. An estimated 35.6 million people living with these diseases throughout the world. Purchasing a copy of A Little Mouse Tail will aid in the fight against Alzheimer’s and Dementia. See more
