24.01.2022 ***Want your horse to be this supple for show season?*** Animal physiotherapy day 7th of February Here at Berry Vet Clinic we are always trying to provide the b...est possible service to our clients. As part of this commitment, we are hosting regular physiotherapy treatment days with Louise Steinman and Mark Klebansky from Capital Animal Physiotherapy. Animal Physiotherapists must first complete their degree in Human Physiotherapy before studying a Masters in Animal Physiotherapy, so are qualified to treat humans and animals. Louise and Mark frequently treat horses, dogs and cats, as well as perform rider assessment and treatment. They are extremely knowledgeable and thorough in their examinations. Louise has ridden at EFA level, so is experienced in working with high level performance horses. We are planning to have Louise and Mark return on the 7th of February. If you think your animal could benefit from physiotherapy treatment, please phone the clinic on (02) 4464 1899 and speak to Dr Sam.

16.01.2022 ***Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow*** Berry is well known for its beautiful gardens, but were you aware that one of the most spectacular flowering plants is also hig...hly toxic to dogs, cats and horses? Brunfelsia is better known as Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow plant due its tricoloured flowers - dark purple, light purple and white. The flowers are long lasting and generally present in spring to early summer. Although the flowers are the most easily recognisable feature, all parts of the plant are toxic. Dogs seem to be attracted to the seed pods and berries, so the danger continues after the flowering season has ended. Signs of toxicity include salivation, vomiting, diarrhoea, muscle tremors and seizures. Unfortunately there is no antidote, so treatment relies on supportive therapy. This includes removing the ingested plant material from the gut (by stomach tube and enemas), and controlling seizures. Often, the only way to stop the seizures is with general anaesthetic, and this may need to be continued for over 24 hours. If you suspect your pet has ingested Brunfelsia, please contact the clinic immediately. Early veterinary intervention is vital in successful treatment.
