04.01.2022 Tonight sees the first race of the Formula 5000 tribute series on iRacing, which will be livestreamed (search for Lukess Esports on Facebook for the link to wat...ch the action as it happens), commencing at 19H00 AEST. The series celebrates the iconic legacy of F5000, including the years when these cars held sway as the premier single seater motorsport category in Australia from 1971 until 1981. All cars will be running colour schemes of the era, paying tribute to the legendary racers and the cars they drove, including McLaren, Matich, Chevron, Elfin and Lola. As there are no F5000 cars modelled in iRacing, we will all be racing identical Lotus 79 F1 cars, powered as they then were by the Ford Cosworth DFV V8 engine and good for at that time around 480BHP. My chosen colour scheme proudly commemorates the achievements and legacy of one of the legends of those years, Australian Warwick Brown, who was a triple series champion in this era, firstly in the last ever Tasman Series in 1975 as well as back to back wins in the Rothmans International Series of 1977 & 78 with the iconic Team VDS. Formula 5000 lives on today through historic racing in Australia and around the world.
