25.01.2022 Well here it is. CYCA plan to run the Sydney to Hobart yacht race. Lots of hurdles to overcome but mostly we hope it all goes safely.

25.01.2022 A good instructional video for one aspect of anchoring. It does assume you have the correct amount of rode (cable / combination of rope and chain) and an anchor with a good design for the type of sea floor (mud /weed / rock / sand).

24.01.2022 Sailing under Step 2 in Metro Melbourne Australian Sailing is happy to announce that single handed sailing or with someone (maximum 5 household members) from yo...ur household bubble is now permissible as part of their 2 hours of exercise. You must adhere to the following: - This is allowed in an OTB dinghy. - This is allowed in a yacht that does NOT have a motor. If your yacht has a motor you cannot use it for sailing exercise. This applies even if you do not turn your motor on. - The 2 hours includes travel to and from the activity - The 2 hours includes rigging and de-rigging - You must stay within your 5km radius - You must wear face masks while on land - You must keep 1.5 meters distance from others See more

23.01.2022 It is not Anchor Marine's plan to close altogether, however the new regulations in Victoria on retail shopping will not permit you to browse our products in the store, but limit us to online, click and collect, and pre paid phone orders. For the next six weeks keep an eye on our google entry as to the open hours when the the phone will be manned, and pickups can be collected in a non contact way.

21.01.2022 Thanks Donzi Marine (USA) for this Graphic. The Marine authorities in Victoria are saying stay at home. No un necessary travel. Well a boat is a means of travel like a car and there are still cars on the road. So if you must go for a trip with the boat, and mental health, fresh air and exercise might be the triggers then the graphic indicates how to minimise the risks.

21.01.2022 Lovely day to take your dog for a walk.

20.01.2022 Bosting Industry Association of Victoria UPDATE RESTRICTIONS EASED - BOATING The Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has advised that outdoor activities involving groups under 10 people can take place from midnight Tuesday 12 May.... This means that with social distancing in place, boating can return to Victorian Waters. The Premier specifically said You can go out in your tinny, so long as you practice social distancing, during his 11am press conference this morning (11 May). Our understanding is that this extends to all forms of boating whether it be tow sport related, sailing (small crews), fishing, cruising or just going to a marina berthed vessel (however not for overnight stays and without clubhouses being opened). We would assume also that charter and tourism activities that can provide social distancing on board, and keep groups under 10, should be good to resume. Validating this is a comment from the Boating Minister on her Facebook page as follows - Jaala Pulford MP - "For the avoidance of doubt, fishing and boating are allowed, so long as appropriate physical distancing is maintained". To view this, click here. BIAV has been calling for this progress for some weeks now and we are delighted that the Premier has made this announcement today, as part of the first step toward recovery. To read the Premiers announcement, which we applaud, please click here. We thank the Premier, the Boating and Fishing Minister Jaala Pulford, the Better Boating Victoria CEO Gary Gaffney, and all other government officials that have worked toward this step being reached. We also acknowledge the efforts of all industry and boating community members that have acted in the interests of this happening. BIAV encourages all members of the boating community to act sensibly, to follow the social distancing requirements, adopt heightened hygiene measures, and stay safe as you return to Victorias magnificent waterways. Anchor Marine would advise that social distancing rules means you can boat with the people in your household but it may be difficult to keep distance with others. Racing keelboats and the opening of yacht club clubhouses may still be some distance off.

20.01.2022 We have a new print run of the book by Peter Warner, "Ocean of Light", that relates the story of the 6 young Tongans, due in next week.

20.01.2022 I once saw a picture of a Flying Dutchman being car topped on a VW but this takes the cake!

19.01.2022 Wish every one good sailing at the weekend. There has been a shortage of flares the last few days. Anchor Marine is back in stock. Sunday is the feast day of Saint Agnato who taught the British to chant and he died in the 6th Century of the plague. To mark the occasion Anchor Marine will be closed on Sunday. We are also working shorter hours during the week due to the recent COVID 19 outbreak. Opening on weekdays at 10am.

19.01.2022 I am told this technique is induced by the presence of a camera. It might look like you are making great effort but if the head is below the hips the hiking effect of the body gets less. That is it is slower.

19.01.2022 Yes worth sharing. We opine that sinkers have their day ruined rather than be loosers. But not everyone agrees with Trump.

19.01.2022 According to the ABC, 80% of Corona virus infections are now coming through business. From Monday staff will be wearing a mask.

18.01.2022 What may be going on here? OK this disabled boat has almost no freeboard and is probably sinking. This is a time of high risk. Everyone should have a lifejacket on. As a boat sinks you have all this water sloshing around (technically called free surface) and this reduces stability. The passengers not wanting to get ther feet wet are on the top deck. They should be ordered to the lower deck.... The rescue boat comes alongside the disabled boat. The passengers naturally move towards the rescue boat. With low stability the disabled boat heels to the limit of its stability and starts to roll over. The passengers should have been controlled to move to the rescue boat in single file and it may have been better for the rescue boat to approach to approach the disabled boat from the bow or the stern. It highlights how boat drivers should understand boat stability.

16.01.2022 Eight Bells for one of Australia's yachting greats.

16.01.2022 We are closed for the New Year holiday tomorrow (Fri 1st Jan). Re opening on Saturday normal hours 9 to 4. Sunday 10 to 1. COVID-19 cases are getting close to hand. We are now asking customers to wear masks and they are responding well to the request. https://www.abc.net.au//more-covid-cases-expected/13023002

15.01.2022 COVID-19 is having a severe impact as to how we go about our lives. It is Anchor Marine's plan to remain open for face to face shopping on Monday and Tuesday. From then on, until government advice changes, our doors will be closed. We will continue to man the phones at a distance from 10 to 4 each day Monday to Saturday. On-line is available at all times while Australia Post still operates.

14.01.2022 FURTHER CLARITY The Boating Industry Association of Victoria advises that today the Boating Ministers team has provided some further clarity as to some of the work/industry/maintenance/safety related activities that can currently take place. We are grateful that this information has been provided and will continue to liaise with the Minister to have more situations clarified. These clarifications complement the information already available on the Better Boating Victoria gov...ernment website, under FAQs, at this link, such as the current entitlement for boat dealers to take customers for boat test/demonstrations. Here are these further outlined scenarios Can I access a berthed, moored or anchored vessel for the purposes of undertaking necessary maintenance or take my boat to a mechanic? Under the Stay at Home Directions there are provisions for people to leave their ordinary place of residence for emergency purposes. In relation to accessing a vessel for maintenance, you may be permitted to conduct maintenance on your vessel for emergency purposes only e.g, to prevent your boat from sinking or to visit a mechanic. Can I move my moored, anchored or berthed vessel ahead of bad weather? Under the Stay at Home Directions there are provisions for people to leave their ordinary place of residence for emergency purposes. It may be permitted to move a moored, anchored or berthed vessel in certain limited circumstances. This would include emergency purposes relating to a boat at threat of sinking or to repair damage that would cause a boat to sink. This situation would need to be assessed on a case by case basis because there are only limited reasons for a person to leave their ordinary place of residence. Am I allowed to use a boat to get to my house if it in an isolated location? Yes, if this house is your ordinary place of residence, then this is permissible. Authorised officers will be conducting random inspections of all boating activity on the water and will use discretion where appropriate. WHEN WILL BOATING / FISHING RESUME? There is some speculation that there could be some relaxation of the boating/fishing bans from 11 May when the state governments state of emergency concludes. This will depend on a few important factors including the results of the 100,000 person random COVID-19 testing that is about to commence. As you would be aware, BIAV is pushing for a return to safe and sensible boating and fishing as soon as possible. This is for the Big 4 reasons, that you can see on this video plea to the Premier here.

14.01.2022 We stock these registration numbers in "stick on form". They are inexpensive insurance to avoid a fine.

14.01.2022 But would it rate well enough for a tilt at the Hobart race?

13.01.2022 We are sharing this MSV / Shipmate post. Unfortunately it does not give much insight to the recent incident but we concur that the critical factor is good ventillation of enclosed spaces, always, and minimising the activies that will produce CO. https://www.shipmate.com.au//safety-alert-carbon-monoxide/

10.01.2022 No doubt you will have heard the news of the re-imposed lockdown for Greater Melbourne and Mitchell Shire, announced by Premier Andrews on 7 July. Based upon stage 3 Lockdown rules, Anchor Marine understands that Boating and Fishing are permitted (we assume boating, sailing and fishing is an exercise for physical and mental well being), so long as its close to home, and involves no travel outside Greater Melbourne or Mitchell Shire, or travel into those areas.... Our work, and servicing our customers are permitted, subject of course to social distancing and hygiene requirements. We can, therefore, continue to operate including sales, servicing, testing and other operations. For the time being Anchor Marine will be open 10 to 4, Monday to Saturday. We will continue to monitor things and our hours of operation may change to match levels of demand. We will update our open hours on our site and on Google if things change. Dont forget that you can always make an appointment for a specific time. All our suppliers will remain open. Stock supply to your order may be slower than normal so please allow for this. Purchase online for delivery with Australia Post or for collection at our store @ 77 Beach Road, Sandringham, Victoria Collection of your online purchase or phone order is still available @ our store Monday to Saturday 10 am to 4 pm or as advised. Call 03 95988077 Monday to Saturday 10 am to 4 pm for queries, advice, service requirements or to order and purchase. As we are all in this together we know you will continue to understand our trading arrangements. -Andy 8th July 2020

08.01.2022 To keep everyone safe and help slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), Stage 4 restrictions for Metropolitan Melbourne are now in place. All forms of recreat...ional boating and fishing are now prohibited and all boat ramps, piers, jetties in metropolitan Melbourne are closed. Stage 3 Stay at Home Restrictions come into effect in Regional Victoria from 11.59pm on Wednesday 5 August, including Mitchell Shire. In regional Victoria, recreational activities such as boating and fishing will be allowed under Stage 3 Stay at Home Restrictions and boat ramps and jetties will remain open. These activities can only be undertaken with household members or one other person. A distance of 1.5m must be maintained between participants. Everyone must wear a face covering when they leave home, unless an exception applies. 06.01.2022 Exercising with someone from outside your household in Metro Melbourne under Step 2. It is important to note, that while you may exercise with someone from anot...her household (max 5 people) within 5km of your home and for 2 hours. You must keep the 1.5 meter social distancing 100% of the time. So while we are under step 2 this means that double-handed dinghy sailing with someone from outside your house hold is NOT permitted. It would also be extremely difficult to sail any vessel without keeping the 1.5 meters distance 100% of the time. Hopefully we will be in step 3 very soon, whereby sailing will open up as a sport once more. Many thanks for your understanding, Australian Sailing

06.01.2022 Boating is great for physical and mental health but the virus is still out there. Keep you distance. Observe good hygiene. Stay safe.

06.01.2022 EASING OF RESTRICTIONS - INCLUDES SERVICING As you will be aware that today the Premier made a series of COVID restriction announcements and progress to the Sec...ond Step of the Roadmap. https://www.vic.gov.au/second-step-coronavirus-road-to-reco BIAV is pleased to advise, that with regard to the Servicing, Safety and Maintenance of vessels, the following wording has been provided Boat maintenance: marine and specialist mechanics permitted to operate when required for safe operation including scheduled/logbook inspections. As you would be aware, BIAV has campaigned for this outcome, and are relieved that this decision has been made. We thank the Minister Melissa Horne for championing this, as well as Gary Gaffney at BBV, and the various DJRP officials that also listened to our safety case and gave support. BIAV will continue discussions over the next couple of days with the government, clarifying any of the finer points, and also working towards our next objectives in the areas of retail and then boating itself. Fishing/Boating Today's announcement also triggers the easing of restriction for recreational boating and fishing activities in metropolitan Melbourne with individuals able to go fishing and undertake boating activities on human-powered crafts only, within 5km of your home and a two-hour time limit applies. Whilst this is not ideal and does not allow for powerboating, it is a small step in the right direction. We will work with government to push for a return to all forms of boating, with a possible timeframe for that being the Third Step revised date of 19 October. We will keep you posted.

05.01.2022 FISHING RESTRICTIONS EASED! While there are still restrictions on where you can go fishing, for how long and how many people can go fishing with you; today's ea...sing of restrictions is welcome news. From tomorrow, families can get down to their local family fishing lake such as Casey Fields, Lilydale Lake and Albert Park Lake just to name a few. And as we speak, the VFA are getting the Snobs Creek hatchery trucks ready to roll out tomorrow and stock tens of thousands of trout into Melbourne metro lakes. Behind the scenes, we are aware that new Minister for Fishing and Boating Melissa Horne MP has lobbied her colleagues to see fishing allowed, and we thank her for her efforts. From tomorrow, the calamari at Mornington, Blairgowrie, Portsea and Flinders piers are no longer safe as anglers return to these iconic land based fishing piers to enjoy fishing. It means the snapper fishing off Mount Martha rocks returns. And with further restrictions to be eased in coming weeks, we suggest you book your accommodation NOW at your favorite fishing destination as two long weekends approach (Grand Final and Melb. Cup). See you all this Tuesday 8.30pm on Talking Fishing, and if you catch a fish between now and then, send us your pic via text to 0427693759 or email [email protected]

Epoxy brands can vary widely in their formulations, quality of raw materials, and their suitability for marine environments. ...Its easy to market an off-the-shelf industrial epoxy product as a marine epoxy, or formulate an epoxy with one or two favorable characteristics while sacrificing other important characteristics. Its much more difficult to balance all of the physical and mechanical properties necessary for a versatile, high-quality marine epoxy.
