24.01.2022 A conversation with our bishops and others about how the Anglican Church serves its communities https://youtu.be/J9EqzGnli-w

24.01.2022 A report on the recent Appellate Tribunal determinations.

24.01.2022 COVIDSafe Ordination at Christ Church Cathedral Our Diocesan Bishop, Dr Peter Stuart, introduced the ordination on Saturday 18th July as a "strange and wonderful event". "Strange," he said "because we are carefully practising social distancing with no singing, no dancing and no mingling. Wonderful because we are celebrating what God is doing in Kimbalee and Sarah's lives and in the life of the Church." Bishop Charlie led the congregation in the acknowledgement of country that... we express each time we gather for a diocesan service. "We gather from the four winds travelling across the land of the Awabakal, Biripi, Darkinjung, Garrigal, Geawegal, Kamilaroi, Worimi and Wonnarua peoples to come to this place. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land. We join our custodianship with theirs in honouring creation and acknowledge the elders past present and future." The service was shaped by a celebration of St Mary Magdalene - the Apostle to the Apostles. Bishop Sonia, who had led the ordination quiet days, was the preacher. She said, "Sarah and Kimbalee, as you exercise the ministry of deacon, as you grow into this ministry, you will find yourselves giving to God and neighbour from deep in your hearts and you find that you are also called to receive as others give to you from deep within their hearts. It is a life of humble service and gratitude." Drawing on the image of diaconal service in footwashing, Bishop Sonia spoke of her ordaining bishop washing the feet of the ordinands as part of the service. "So, what are deacons?" Bishop Sonia asked and answered - Deacons are ordained ministers who remind us of our call to live lives of service to God and others. Deacons are like a bridge between the church and the world bringing together in their ministry worship and service, and leading us as all seek to balance these twin aspects of the Christian life. And in our worship it is the deacons who send us out into the world in mission. Deacons also remind us of the grace of God who enables us to live this life faithfully, joyfully, and gratefully. The Reverend Kimbalee Hodges will serve as a Deacon in Local Ministry in the Parish of East Maitland. The Reverend Sarah Dulley will serve as Honorary Deacon in the Parish of Telarah and Rutherford.

22.01.2022 Covid means that we will have a different Christmas in 2020 with some people staying home and not visiting family or attending church. Bishop Peter speaks about Jesus being light and darkness. He reminds us of the announcement by God's messengers of "peace on earth and good will among all people". Bishop Charlie and Bishop Sonia join with Bishop Peter in praying God's richest blessings on the people of the Hunter and Central Coast regions of NSW for Christmas. Check with your local church for service times for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

19.01.2022 Bishop Peter spent some time at Warrawelong (Mt Sugarloaf) this morning. Taking in some wonderful views of significant parts of the Diocese he prayed for God’s protection and peace for the people of the region. The aboriginal people of our region remind us that country, of which they exercise continuing custodianship, is the land, water, sky and more. Bishop Peter prayed for the shared journey, called for in the Statement of the Heart, of creating a fair and truthful relationship among us all.

18.01.2022 During the week our Diocesan Bishop spoke about the Case Study Report from the child abuse Royal Commission released without redactions https://youtu.be/ghgEpp15BSE

09.01.2022 ST FRANCIS DAY: A reflection from Bishop Peter Stuart for Saint Francis Day.

09.01.2022 ANZAC LIGHT UP THE DAWN We are being encouraged to light up the dawn this year for our ANZAC remembrance. We can stand in our driveway, on our balcony or in our living room to remember all those who have served and sacrificed. At 6am on ANZAC Day, we can be united in spirit as we remember all those who have served and sacrificed for the lifestyle we enjoy today. The RSL reminds us that it’s worth making sure we’re in place and ready to go a few minutes early.... If we have rosemary growing in our garden, we could carry a sprig in remembrance. Jesus said, 'No one has greater love than this, than to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends, if you do what I command you.' [John 14: 13 - 14] O God, our ruler and guide, in whose hands are the destinies of this and every nation, we give you thanks for the freedoms we enjoy in this land and for those who laid down their lives to defend them: we pray that we and all the people of Australia, gratefully remembering their courage and their sacrifice, may have grace to live in a spirit of justice, of generosity, and of peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. [APBA ANZAC DAY] They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, We will remember them. Morning Prayer on ANZAC morning on the Cathedral Youtube will be focused on ANZAC DAY and led by the Dean of Newcastle. Christ Church Cathedral is a significant war memorial and contains many treasures recording the sacrifice of people in this region in times of war.
