SYMPTOMS: Include gastrointestinal tract irritation causing drooling, vomiting, diarrhoea (may be bloody), loss of coordination, shallow breathing, muscle tremors, hypothermia and even death from abnormal heart function.

Researchers at the University of Adelaide are investigating factors associated with the satisfaction of owners with their new pets, and theyd love to hear from you. This information may be used in the future in developing policy to protect the welfare of animals being traded as pets. In order to participate in this study, you must: - live in Australia... - be at least 18 years of age - understand English - and have a new pet in the last 2 years. They have had quite a few submissions about dogs and puppies already (although more are always welcome), so theyd especially like to hear from cat, bird or rodent owners. 12.01.2022 Indi the Dachshund gave birth to 4 beautiful puppies over the weekend at our Moorabbin AEC centre and we managed to capture one of those births for you to watch. Congratulations Indi, you are a wonderful mumma.

12.01.2022 Fantastic efforts by the Animal Emergency Centre team volunteering with Adelaide Koala Rescue to help the victims of the Cudlee Creek fires. Nothing shows greater community spirit and team work than banding together and helping in times like this. Congratulations on all of your hard work to all of the staff that were involved from Animal Emergency Centre, you are making a real difference to those that cant defend themselves from these devastating fires.

11.01.2022 Lacey and her family were taking a lovely stroll along the beach when she was randomly attacked by another larger dog. Her quick-thinking family bundled her into the car and brought her to the AEC where she was promptly assessed and treated. On assessment she had a large continuous laceration extending from her back along to her right elbow forming a large flap that revealed a large amount of subcutaneous fat. There were several smaller lacerations in the same region, all c...ommunicating with the same space. Fortunately for Lacey the teeth of the other dog didnt puncture her chest wall however it wasnt until she had been stabilised that internal damage could be ruled unlikely. Dog fight wounds can be like an iceberg; what we see externally is only a small amount of the inflicted damage and it can take time before the true extent of injuries are diagnosed. Laceys prognosis was good, although she did need extensive surgery to suture her wounds. With wounds as extensive as hers, there is always a risk after surgery that some of the tissue and skin could become necrotic (die) and need further surgery. A drain was placed to help drain away any fluid build-up and Lacey was maintained on IV fluids, antibiotics and pain relief. Lacey was able to go home the next day and back into the care of her regular vet; an amazing result from the AEC team and her family!
