25.01.2022 This photo was taken 5 minutes ago! Another gorgeous Winters morning in Launceston. If you like sunrises and sunsets, this is where you want to be. And as travel restrictions are set to be removed quite soon, you can start making plans to visit! All National Parks open later today, and I am heading into the hills this weekend!

25.01.2022 The beloved Freddie is ready for new adventures with new owners. This price drop to $5,500 is great value when you consider the camping gear and Rego until April 2020! The pic in this post is terrible, so contact Kelly for better images and info.

24.01.2022 Thanks to all Tasmanians that have made the right choices and made some effort resulting in earlier lifting of Stage 2 restrictions. Id like to pass on a particular thanks to those in the North West who were hugely affected by more severe restrictions due to an outbreak that was not their fault. Some other States are facing similar outbreaks but are having more trouble containing them and the main difference is the cooperation of the people living in the area. So thanks to ...Tassies North West people and businesses. I would also like to point out that we are not out of it yet. The effects of this may remain for more than a year. Please continue to make the right choices and we will all remain safe. Keep washing your hands, avoid close contact with anyone but family, make shopping trips efficient, etc. The most effective tools are the most simple (and FREE!). And most of all, be respectful of any and all people/staff who are making efforts. People wear masks to protect you, not themselves. Staff are operating under rules and are doing their best. 24.01.2022 You can just make out the Arthouse Backpackers in one of these historic photos!

24.01.2022 Our first bbq night in quite a while. Lots of fun had by all. (And I promise not to post the video of everyone singing 99 Red balloons!)

23.01.2022 Another average Launceston sunset! I played with this one a little bit. We hope everyone is safe and well. Look after yourselves, and take care of others.

22.01.2022 What an amazing sight. I’ve never seen snow on the ground in Launceston! I’ve seen it snowing in Hobart a few years ago, but never up here. It’s beautiful, silent, serene.

21.01.2022 Saint Patricks Day at the Irish - get your craig on. Or whatever those crazy Irish say!

21.01.2022 Restrictions are lifting slowly but this is not the time to be complacent. It is still important to keep up with the most simple day-to-day choices. Wash hands often, keep your distance, cough & sneeze into your elbow, respect businesses requirements and listen to staff. And if you see someone wearing a mask or gloves, remember that they are doing that to keep you safe, not themselves. Dont laugh at them, maybe say thanks!

21.01.2022 Start the Christmas feels in Launceston in November!

19.01.2022 AWESOME NEWS Tasmania will re-open (to safe States) on October 26th. To celebrate the great news, we are offering a further discount to our discounted rates! 19.01.2022 Continuing with the beach theme in this amazing weather - Tasmania has strong support for Surf Lifesaving and the State Championship was held this weekend gone at Carlton Park beach. I went down to support my kids and all the kids that are encouraged to be active and to learn water safety. And what a glorious day!

19.01.2022 We have a group booking this coming weekend the 20th, 21st and 22nd of September. We are fully booked the same weekend every year. Thats why we do not have space. Sorry. The good news is that we are offering a super special on our rates on Tuesday 23rd September - down to $15 per person in the large dorms! Thats for Tuesday and Wednesday as a welcome back gift to all who want to stay with us. We also have cheaper rates for the rest of September. 18.01.2022 I'm pretty sure that makes a full week of zero cases. We all still need to be aware of the restrictions that remain in place. It won't be much longer!

17.01.2022 I did not expect to be ever posting photos of the Arthouse in the snow!

17.01.2022 This is Tassies roadmap to recovery. Please everyone everyone download the Covid Safe app and remember to continue to follow the guidelines. This is incredibly important because the later dates will be changed if we dont continue to work together to keep a lid on the virus. If you want to go for a beer at a pub in a couple of weeks, choose to stay at home today!

16.01.2022 Loving the old architecture, old signs and even the old security measures! The risk of tetanus must be as good a deterrent as any. Next time you wander the streets of Launceston, take a little time and enjoy the small things.

16.01.2022 Question: What age is young for a convict to be transported to Van Demons Land? The answer is in Campbell Town. Most people who drive along the highway simply pass through Campbell Town annoyed that they have to slow down. And those people miss out on one of the most charming and feature packed towns in Tasmania. There are great information signs telling about logging and sheep farming history. Theres one of the busiest bridges in Tasmania - and built by convicts! There is... also a row of bricks in the footpath that describe a little about many individual convicts. Its fascinating. And the info lists name, crime, sentence and age! The photo here shows the age of a very young convict. 6 years old. I think theres younger - but this is the youngest brick I could find. Theres also historic cemeteries, buildings and simply beautiful views. As with most ... all! ... Tasmanian towns, it is worth stopping and getting out of your car!

16.01.2022 20% discount on all rooms! Remember to book during November on our own website, and use the Promo Code "REOPEN" for that discount. Go to https://apac.littlehotelier.com/p/arthousebackpackersdirect and you will see the Promo Code box at the upper-right.

16.01.2022 WE ARE OPEN But for now we are only allowed to have workers stay with us. So if you have a working holiday visa and are doing harvest work (or looking for harvest work) you can stay with us. We do have cheaper weekly rates for harvest workers, so please get is touch with us via email [email protected] or FB messenger. We have been doing our bit with social distancing etc. And now Tassie has had 3 days with zero new cases of Covid-19. We know that each of us had... a little bit to do with that! Each of us, all around the World, can make decisions each day to help each other. You might feel insignificant like a grain of sand, but the Worlds best beaches are made up of lots of grains of sand! Keep making great decisions, keep washing your hands, keep your distance and stay at home if you dont need to go anywhere!

14.01.2022 Have you ever said you feel like a hamster in a wheel, running but getting nowhere? Now is your chance to find out what its really like!

12.01.2022 At least the Tasmanian government has done something. Hopefully other States or the Federal Government will follow suit.

10.01.2022 What an amazing sight. Ive never seen snow on the ground in Launceston! Ive seen it snowing in Hobart a few years ago, but never up here. Its beautiful, silent, serene.

09.01.2022 Thanks to all Tasmanians who have made an effort to achieve this. But please remember that there remains a global pandemic and we need to continue to do the very easy things to keep safe while we re-open.

09.01.2022 Well, this is it. The traditional Irish celebration that will be flooded with French guests from the Arthouse. Get down to The Irish on Brisbane Street (about 10 min walk there and 20min stumble home) and have a great night. Just be quiet when you come home

08.01.2022 Tasmania needs 100's of Harvest Workers right now! And we have cheap accommodation to stay at. But even if you don't end up staying with us, you should go to https://dpipwe.tas.gov.au/agriculture/harvest-jobs to find a job in the safest State in Australia. It's even safer here than New Zealand! (And there's probably even more sheep here per capita than New Zealand if that floats your boat) Bottom line - register, get a job and get your ass to Tassie. Australia needs to eat!

08.01.2022 We are not charging any cancellation fee's for anyone affected by this. We hope everyone stays safe, looks out for each other, and together we will get through these outbreaks. Please, no matter what you may think of the advice given, follow it - it's very easy to wear a mask, keep your distance and wash your hands.

07.01.2022 Royal Launceston Show is on tomorrow, Thursday 10th October. You should get along to the show - they are good fun. But its also a Public Holiday and we have limited hours at reception. Reception Opening Hours 9am - 12pm & 2pm - 5pm... You can still arrive at the Arthouse, but you have to let us know your arrival time. We can set you up for late night arrival which is FREE & simple. Just make your booking and let us know your arrival time. http://www.launcestonshowground.com.au/

07.01.2022 Thanks to all Tasmanian's who have made an effort to achieve this. But please remember that there remains a global pandemic and we need to continue to do the very easy things to keep safe while we re-open.

07.01.2022 Covid-19 We at the Arthouse firstly want to express our wish that you, your friends and family are OK, and our deepest condolences if not. Difficulties in travel, cancelled flights, tours and events are annoying, but we hope you can look at the bigger picture. We all need to do our bit to ensure that we dont spread the virus to those who are in contact with those who are vulnerable. Although Arthouse staff and guests are not in statistically in danger ourselves, we need to l...ook after those around us. This is a scenario where we literally need to look after each other on a global scale. The Arthouse itself is open as normal. We are following the common sense health guidelines in place in all countries. We provide hand soap in all bathrooms and ask that guests wash hands well and often. When we clean common areas and rooms we are using a disinfectant which is our normal cleaning product. And we ask that anyone who may have a raised temperature or have flu-like symptoms speak to staff immediately. We are not in panic mode, and sincerely ask that people stay calm, but recognise that there is a global pandemic and do our bit to suppress its spread. I do think we are safer here than most places in the World. However, please find the health and travel warnings from your home countries and follow them if they direct you. Lastly, we have plenty of toilet paper. Last lastly, please do not listen to President Trump!

06.01.2022 Im pretty sure that makes a full week of zero cases. We all still need to be aware of the restrictions that remain in place. It wont be much longer!

06.01.2022 The Enduro World Series is coming to Tasmania again. The last weekend in March - only a couple of weeks away! Yet another World event coming to this amazing place

05.01.2022 Yet another amazing sunset over Launceston. It changes moment by moment, and then suddenly its gone.

05.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all Have a fun and safe day today, and we hope Santa brings you everything you wanted!

04.01.2022 Ive always thought the Arthouse looks amazing with a full moon in the background, and tonight is no exception! This was just taken with my phone standing out front a few minutes ago!

03.01.2022 Get down to Cataract Gorge for yet another FREE event held by City of Launceston.

03.01.2022 We all at the Arthouse is wishing everyone a safe, fun and joyful Christmas, New Year and/or Holiday period depending on your religious beliefs. We are aware that there is incredible tragedy around the World, and there are literally millions of people who are missing family and friends this season. Our collective hearts go out to you. Whatever your motivation, let's all use this excuse to look after each other, and maybe even step outside of our comfort zones and do whatever is needed to do to slow and stop this pandemic.

03.01.2022 WE ARE OPEN More on that in a bit. Firstly we want to express our deepest sympathies and condolences to any/all affected by this pandemic. We urge every single person in the World to take this seriously even if, as we are, you sit in a safe space. This does affect each and every one of us, and each and every one has a responsibility to do our bit. The ONLY way to stop the spread is to listen to the scientists and follow the guidelines. Now - We are open. In Tasmania we are a...llowed to have workers stay with us, and we interpret that as harvest workers and/or people on a working holiday visa. But we do not allow short stays, holiday makers or any other type of guest. But - There are rules! If you have been in Tasmania for at least 6 weeks you can stay with us. If you have been in Tasmania for less than 6 weeks you will have to prove that you have completed your quarantine period. We also have in-house rules. Each area has a maximum number of guests allowed, and each guest must practice social distancing. It is not easy, we know, but it must be done or you will be required to leave. There are a few other rules about washing hands, use of the kitchen, etc. and the rules MUST be adhered to or you will be required to leave. So - If you are a harvest worker and want to stay with us, you can send us a message, or an email to [email protected] or call 1800 04 11 35

03.01.2022 Thanks to all Tasmanian's that have made the right choices and made some effort resulting in earlier lifting of Stage 2 restrictions. 03.01.2022 Lets hope the Government moves quickly to encompass temp visa holders in the support packages. The best thing for every single person to do - citizen, resident or temp visa holder - is to call the local MP and voice your concern. We are calling today!

02.01.2022 Some awesome pics of Devonport’s Coles Beach and surrounds from a couple of equally awesome guests who stayed recently.

02.01.2022 Install to save lives. Literally. There is a lot of talk about sentinel testing, and this app will make that incredibly effective. Please everyone install this app no matter what country you come from. Every little bit that each of us do helps every person in the world. Literally.

01.01.2022 I think this makes nearly 3 weeks without any new cases in Tasmania, even though there were over 350 tests done in the lat 24 hours. Primary school students have been at school for 2 weeks with no new outbreaks, and junior high goes back today. And although we have seen an early reduction of restrictions, we still need to do our bit. And it is incredibly simple - wash your hands often and thoroughly, dont go shopping unless you need to and make each trip efficient, respect t...he efforts of shops and the staff, keep your distance as best you can and cough/sneeze into your elbow. And maybe the most important thing - if you have a sniffle go and get tested. Its easy, its free, its important. And I guess the last thing we can do which is the most simple thing - install the Covidsafe app onto your phone - itll take 2 minutes and you will forget its there. From all of us at the Arthouse we say thank you, stay safe, and keep making a small effort. See more
