25.01.2022 Rose is all class and elegance, just like her name . We love our graceful Golden Retriever.

25.01.2022 Asta's babies are six weeks old and have been named. Say hello to our boys Vader, Valentine, Bronson, Vincent, Virgil, Vito and our girls Venus, Chellie and Vyrna. Don't they have the sweetest faces? Judging by their mama and her previous babies, these kids are going to become superstars.

24.01.2022 Hi, Norman! This handsome 14-month-old is from Asta's second litter, and is currently in training. Doesn't the L-plate jacket look smart on him?

22.01.2022 It’s Summer time ! Summer’s training was completely funded by our wonderful NSW supporters who took part in the Return and Earn Recycling program. Thank you again for all your hard work. Summer is now a teenager and hitting all the milestones in training. Summer was a timid girl, but she has become more social with increased confidence. ... She recently swapped homes with her brother, Sherlock, as a test of adaptability and independence. Of course, she did well and was a delight because she is super affectionate, with outstanding home manners. Yuki, Summer’s educator, has also worked hard to add duration, distance, and distraction (we call it the 3 D’s) to the the cues Summer knows (e.g. Sit, Down, Stand, Bed, Mat). Summer will follow cues given while her human is standing 6 metres away, which is an impressive feat and shows great obedience. Summer can now also walk equally well on both sides of her human. In supermarkets, Summer is walking in step with the shopping trolley; stopping, turning, or simply waiting as needed. Lifts and stairs are also practised regularly, and Summer is focused and well-mannered. We have also introduced Tip, a skill where pup is offering a solid bump of its nose to the handler’s open palm. This will later translate to closing door and cupboards. Summer is mastering this well. Go Summer!

20.01.2022 Water you doing, Brookie? This pup-in-training is cool as a cucumber around some very tempting places to take a dip. Good job, Brookie!

19.01.2022 This year has been extraordinary for many reasons. In 2020, we graduated and placed 37 Assistance Dogs with their grateful humans. And yes, that includes our resident rockstar, Bernie the Bernese Mountain Dog. A few weeks ago, Bernie was finally able to travel interstate and officially begin his life an Assistance Dog for someone who is living with post-traumatic stress disorder.... We also currently have 15 dogs in Advanced Training and 50 in early education, which means that we will be extremely busy in 2021! And at the moment, we have 163 Assistance Dogs who are actively working around the country, changing the lives of their humans and everyone they meet. 2020 has been an extraordinary year because of you, our amazing supporters. We look forward to continuing our good work, together, in 2021.

19.01.2022 New litter alert! Share their first moments in a live video here on our Facebook page at 11am tomorrow (Thursday). Asta's babies have arrived, and our hearts are so full. Our family has grown by three girls and six boys, all black labradors. They don't have names yet, but they will begin with the letter V ... 18.01.2022 Recently we took some of our Sydney pups-in-training to horse stables where they could meet some equine friends and be tested on their focus and good behaviour. During the class, each pup got up close with Vinnie, an older horse, to become used to other animals. Some pups needed to build up courage to go near him; others were not fazed by tall Vinnie. But the main goal was to teach the pups to ignore a distracting environment (complete with an interesting horse) and keep the...ir focus on their human. We were pleased to see the puppies making eye contact with their handler (instead of inspecting the horse or hiding), which is a show of trust, connection and best of all, focus, so important to have in their future relationship with their eventual recipient. It was a very successful puppy class and this next generation of Assistance Dogs will grow up to become intuitive, courageous and intelligent companions.

18.01.2022 In regional NSW lives a very clever chocolate Labrador named Inka. She is an Educational Support Assistance Dog. Inka has a very important job at a local school. This school is focused on giving the best education to students who have moderate or severe intellectual disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, mental health, vision or hearing impairments. Inka helps students to improve their social skills and encourages them to manage their emotions. ... Ms Kirby, a teacher at the school said that Inka also helps students experience new things. She said, With the kids who are reluctant to touch certain surfaces or certain textures, you can get Inka involved in a painting activity, or you can get her involved in a switch activity where she’s activating lights and sounds in the classroom. Inka joins in on morning health and wellbeing sessions, motivates children to spend more time outdoors, listens to students as they read aloud, is a big help at bus time, and also has been a great icebreaker for fellow students during class and playground time.

18.01.2022 Today, Remembrance Day, Belle wore a purple poppy to commemorate the animals who loyally served alongside humans in times of war and conflict. We recognise the sacrifice of service men and women, past and present, on this solemn occasion.

17.01.2022 Merry Christmas to the Assistance Dogs Australia family! Wherever you are, and however you spend today, we hope that you are happy and healthy. Lots of love from Bernie and all of us at ADA

07.01.2022 Here's another look at the Pups in Prison program in Queensland. It's life-changing in so many ways

06.01.2022 It's all in the family! Asta was chosen to be mum to more Assistance Dogs so she could pass on her intelligence and calmness to the next generation. Our clever girl has also shared another loveable trait with her babies... the infamous Asta head tilt. There's nothing more adorable than when she looks at you with her curious eyes and does her signature head tilt when you talk to her. ... As you can see from these photos, many of her babies have the same habit. We look forward to seeing if her newest puppies will carry on the head-tilt trait

04.01.2022 The greatest friends always have your back ... and perhaps the greatest friends also have four legs . Lo (left) and Onyx (right) are living proof of both.

01.01.2022 On Remembrance Day, we stop at 11am to observe a minute’s silence and reflect on those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. The red poppy symbolises the sacrifice of our service men and women, and the purple poppy (as worn by Pixie) commemorates animals who have served in war. Lest we forget.

01.01.2022 In two hours, you can see exactly what our nine newborn puppies are up to in a live video, right here on our Facebook page.
