17.01.2022 Last week I had the privilege to be on the panel for a Women in Manufacturing event in Cairns, Queensland. The event was hosted and sponsored by the Australian Industry Group and the Queensland Government. It was so fun and I loved every minute of it! To be honest, the strangest thing is that, prior to being asked to be on this panel, I never considered myself in manufacturing. I thought of myself more as an entrepreneur, a mompreneur, a woman in business. But a Woman ...in Manufacturing? Nope. But it makes sense, and its a title I am proud to wear. Why? Because we are food manufacturers. We gather a raw product (coconut) and turn it into something else that consumers can enjoy. We are always creating new products, developing recipes in line with latest food trends, and working with other raw suppliers to create coconut goodness for our customers. The manufacturing sector in our region is doing very well. More Australians are prioritising Aussie-grown food and Australian-made goods. And, I am seeing more food-preneurs coming to the party and launching new Aussie-made food products. Its wonderful! I love entrepreneurship (Ive been this way since I was a kid and hired out my cassette tapes to my siblings - true story!), and one of the highlights of the morning was networking with local people to nurture the entrepreneur skills in local high school students. My dream is to empower others to make a living making products they love. Watch this space! Until then, thank you for your continued support. We appreciate the support of everyday Australians who choose to support our locally grown, handmade products over the cheaper imported stuff. 08.01.2022 Any other moms cry on the first day of school? It's my oldest's first day of high school and I cried like a baby at his bus stop! I was trying to be cool and didn't want to embarrass him.... he said goodbye, marched up the bus steps, and never looked back. Can any other moms relate? 05.01.2022 I started making coconut chips for my kids 7 years ago. And now the kids are helping make them too. Very cool! Here Miss N is holding the fresh, raw coconuts before slicing. Sometimes the kids want to "help" , but I try to find a job they can do (even if it's for 10 minutes!). Her life has been one of remarkable achievement, and to so many of us she meant so much more than simply a member of the highest court in the land. She embodied speaking truth to power. She lived the values of fairness and equality that our county promises and often falls short of delivering. She fought for those wh...o needed a warrior with her mind and her pen. We will miss her deeply, but we all carry a part of Justice Ginsburg with us. When we speak up against injustice, when we take a stand for what is right, when we dont let anyone underestimate what we are capable of, we honor her. Lets mourn together here, as we have before. And then lets rise together here as we always do, to continue to build the country and the world that Justice Ginsburg helped us to see could be made a reality.
