In this masterclass, Anchuli Felicia King will explore how to transform non-fictional sources into drama. The first part of the class will explore the research process: where and how to start your research, organizing your research materials, and best practices around conducting primary research. This section will also explore various ethical issues... around working from biographic or journalistic source material. The second part of the class will explore the process of transforming non-fiction into drama, including creative writing exercises and adaptative approaches, with practical examples from King’s own research notes and play drafts. The class will conclude with a forum session where participants are invited to discuss their own research and ask King further questions about her writing process. With a few projects already in development, TV drama series, Radicals, an anthology series with the pilot script by Los Angeles-based screenwriter and producer Jonathan Shapiro (Goliath, Black List), is the first project to emerge from a slate intended to span film, television internet, social media and podcasts. We can't wait to see what else is in store!
