24.01.2022 Do you have to be named David to score a hole in one? The last two players to do this at our course have been named David (Coe and Brice). Can someone score an ace this week?

24.01.2022 This Saturday is a stableford round and the last Saturday comp before we head into the summer season - all welcome to tee off between 11-30am and 12-30pm. FYI winter season sub ends on September 30. Summer subs are now available (covering period from Oct 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021) for $250. Then you can play any time you like without paying a green fee which will be $25 as from October 1, 2020. If interested in joining please contact treasurer Louise on 0438 286 275, PM through facebook or email [email protected]

23.01.2022 Thanks to guys like Chris Brownlie, a local mobile mechanic, who answered the call from the Balaklava Golf Club volunteers to help fine tune and fix greens and fairway machinery at minimal cost. We now have a fantastic presentation of conditions for members and visitors to play golf. Thanks also to Darren Woodroofe who has heeded the call in the past to help out. Let’s all support these guys if you can in the future. Why not play a round (not play around) this weekend?... Everyone is welcome. This week is a stableford, conciding with the members' Finlayson Trophy (4BBB) men's perpetual stableford event. Whose balls are these (pictured)? One is a joke, and one is James Rundle's drive on 8 last week! PLUGGED big time!

22.01.2022 The challenge is on for our smartest and most creative bartender. Geoff spence started it all some time ago, and since then, we've seen a range of smart bow ties and vests worn by waiters and wenches, but yesterday, Geoff raised the bar (literally!) with this colourful outfit. Woo hoo! Well done Spency!

21.01.2022 Woo hoo! We're back! Following easing of restrictions as of December 1, golf competitions can now resume as normal. However we must now have a record of all players for contact tracing. Before you play, please either write your name and contact details on the sheet at the starter's desk, OR scan the QR code (at the desk) using your phone.... When playing, you can remove the flagstick with your gloved hand, but please lie it on the green until everyone has putted, and then, using your gloved hand, put it back in the cup once everyone has finished. Food and drinks can be consumed while seated inside, but you can stand and eat/drink if outside. Social distancing applies, and if you feel unwell, please do not attend the club/course. Wednesday golf 8.30am stableford, and nine-hole Wednesday twilight is on from 5.30pm. This Saturday is a stroke round, tee off between 11.30am and 12.30pm. And don't forget the upcoming two-person Ham and Turkey ambrose on Saturday December 12. All welcome. Organise your partner - $10 members, $30 non-members. Great prizes! Contact captain Scott 0438 286 275 to book in your ambrose pair.

21.01.2022 A warm and windy day but great fun had by all who played in the club's pinehurst comp today, followed by winter season presentations and a delicious dinner. French onion chops were the big winner, followed by Ryan and Hayley McPharlin who took out the pinehurst win! Then came evergreeen John Michael and Kelly Stott, Murray and Janice Smith, and Callum Michael and Matt Hoepner. We won't mention Luke SOK Simon and Chris Foggy Marshall won the NAGA.... from Mel Cheverton and Bil...l Goudie, and Ben Michael and Clancy Toholke.... Foggy had an excellent score on Saturday with 78 off the wand (blues) and 42 stableford points - well done! Can't have a super day every day. Thanks to everyone who played and helped out. Winter season officially finishes next Saturday Sept 26, with a stableford. All welcome. The summer season starts on October 3. Summer subs will be $250 (Oct 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021.) Comp fees will be $7. Green fees are also going up for the first time in living memory to $25 per person per day. Still very cheap though!! Please contact by private message, email via the club's website, or contact the treasurer on 0438 286 275 for more infomration. Our club is run completely by volunteers so please remember to pay your subs or green fees before playing. We appreciate your honesty.

13.01.2022 Dear members It has been confirmed that no organised competitive sport should be taking place under the current directives (Public Activity Direction No 11) and that any sport should only be recreational in nature. This includes golf. It is therefore a recommendation from Golf Australia that all club competitions should be cancelled for the period of the current directive and that play may continue in recreational manner only.... However Golf Australia has made representation to the government on the matter of club competitions and will continue to do so during this period of restrictions. We will advise you as soon as any changes are made in this regards. So as from WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 18, social golf only is permitted as a recreational activity and all competitions have been suspended until further notice. We hope this is short lived! ALSO please follow these rules to enable everyone the opportunity to continue to play golf and access the course: - Leave the pin in while putting - No hand shaking (elbow bump is fine) - Please leave your sand bucket in the tub after play for cleaning - Use sanitiser in the clubhouse after play and wash your hands - Practice social distancing - Green fee players are still very welcome. - Cart users to carry on as usual. - And please DO NOT attend golf if you are unwell. The clubhouse will remain open and accessible to members and volunteers as usual, however any food and drink MUST be consumed while you are seated. - Only 10 people can be seated at any one table. (Our maximum numbers in the clubhouse won't be exceeded but please practice social distancing.) We appreciate this is not ideal, however we are abiding by SAPOL's requirements at this time. The committee will keep you informed as we know more. Please continue to play golf and abide by these instructions, and hopefully we'll return to regular competitions shortly. Mark Loy BGC president

13.01.2022 Vale: Daryl (Daz) Butler. We suddenly lost Daz (49) to a major heart attack on April 18. A valued and enthusiastic Twilight golfer he will be sadly missed and fondly remembered. Our love and prayers go to Allison and the children Maddi and Ben, and the extended family and friends in this most difficult time. Take care all, look after each other. Rev

13.01.2022 Hello all golfers, The committee held a special meeting on March 25 and decided due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Balaklava Golf Course will only be open for social rounds of golf as of Thursday, March 26 in order to reduce the risk of virus transmission. There will be no competitions held until further notice. We will review this decision on April 30. As a licensed venue, the clubhouse will also be closed. At this stage, all players are permitted to play on the course, bein...g mindful to practise social distancing. Green fee players please continue to use the box. When you are playing, please be aware of the following: Only handle your own golfing equipment Maintain the 1.5m distance at all times Wash your hands often Only one person per golf cart Avoid shaking hands Putt with flag in Avoid ball washers Do not congregate around after to socialise. These are all recommendations by Golf Australia and SAPOL. Please abide by these so everyone can continue to enjoy the game and our course, plus some exercise and fresh air! Hopefully things will return to normal sooner than later, but we will keep you updated as we go. BGC committee

02.01.2022 Yesterday was the British Open teams day competition, with players allocated to a team only organiser David Brice knew about. Winners of the day with nett 221 were Richard Taylor and Corey Temby (pictured) and Mark Cross who made a getaway from the building faster than Elvis. They were in the Royal Portrush team. Keeping in line with British names (seeing the open was to be held at St Georges this year) the prize was something regal - Lord Nelson ale. Well done lads! This Sat...urday is the Kilikanoon 3-ball Shamble so organise a team of 3 for this stableford event. Visitors welcome - members $10 and visitors $30, includes nibbles after play. Tee off 11-30am for 12 noon. Rules will be explained on the day - it's a great concept and everyone had fun last year. Contact captain Scott on 0438 286 275 for info or if you need to find some friends to make up a team! See more
