25.01.2022 As a missionary, entrepreneur and minister of the Gospel, I have been engaged in the business of tentmaking throughout my life. Why? My intent, with everything I do, is simply Gospel centric, to go into all the world and preach the Gospel, this is integrated into everything I do. Have you realized how important tentmaking is to God's strategy for mobilizing the Church and reaching the lost?... It is important! Paul sets us an example as a tentmaker, he used his trade to support himself in Corinth on his second missionary journey. He built a relationship with Pricilla and Aquilla, who by trade were also tentmakers, and he stayed and worked with them to reach the city of Corinth. Although Paul worked full-time planting Churches and preaching the Gospel, he made it a point to support himself whenever possible. He later told the elders in Ephesus, I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing. You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions (Acts 20:33-34). We need more tentmakers! Using your trade or business skills in the marketplace to resource yourself and your team in the ministry is what tentmaking is all about. Some Christians are called by God into ministries or areas of the world where they cannot be financially supported by the spiritual work they do, so they find employment in addition to their ministry. For example, a new Church plant is often pastored by a person who also works full-time. Some missionaries move into regions and work while ministering after hours. In some closed countries, tentmaking is the only option for a missionary to establish a base to operate from to reach the lost. Sometimes a person called into ministry prefers tentmaking to the more traditional method of raising outside support. Tentmakers may also choose to provide their own financial support as a means of staying connected in the community. They believe that tentmaking helps them better identify with others and ensures they are not a financial burden to those they serve. Also, the struggles of the business world give them opportunities to live out their message and model lifestyle evangelism. Paul also teaches us that those who teach the Gospel have the right to make their living from the Gospel, but it’s a right that some choose to lay aside. Tentmaking is a worthy strategy of actively obeying Jesus’ command to go and make disciples of every nation. Don't wait for the ideal circumstances, do something with the skills you have developed in the marketplace and "reach the lost, disciple the found, and build the Church." This may be your strategy, if so, go for it! If business or tentmaking is your vehicle into missions, there is a way to work a plan to fulfil the mission God has put in your heart - be a tentmaker!

20.01.2022 What's your goal in going on a mission? Don't lose sight of the central command of Jesus. In this fast-food, instant-access generation, we have often substituted true discipleship for a superficial community experience and a program-driven approach to missions. These substitutes require far less work and a much lower level of commitment than true discipleship. Don't be deceived, you may have had a successful mission and seen people come to Christ, but what is the quality of ...Continue reading

20.01.2022 When we fly into a new country on a mission we tend to cross multiple timezones that throw our body clocks out of sync. If you are flying in the right direction this will mean you wake up very early, often long before the sun is up. Some may think it's the wrong direction! Who wants to wake up hours before dawn? Don't miss the opportunity... This is the best time to pray, wait on God, and to prepare for the glory of a new day. It does something in your spirit when you are on ...Continue reading

09.01.2022 Jesus came to earth on a mission! This is the story of the birth of Jesus, the most wonderful time of the year, as we reflect on the most important event in the history of the world and the greatest gift given to mankind! We can only stop and exclaim as John did, Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. What a glorious message of hope for the whole world - Jesus came to save us! Hallelujah! However, for many people, Christmas is a dark, difficult and pai...Continue reading

09.01.2022 The glory of missions is not going on a mission, but being able to present every man perfect in Christ. This is what the apostle Paul strived to do, "Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. To this end I also labour, striving according to His working which works in me mightily." Sanctification is an essential part of missions and presenting the whole Gospel as we are not just called to save ...the lost, but that the saved are holy and live holy lives. Thus, the Bible makes it clear that when someone becomes a Christian that sanctification is vital for their Christian growth and development to maturity. It is both positional and instantaneous, and practical and progressive. As such Paul wrote, for this is the will of God, your sanctification." There is no doubt that God has done a great work in salvation yet He desires us to be partakers in the process of discipling others on the road of sanctification. God is interested in the maturity of every believer and He is at work in us by His Holy Spirit transforming us through the process of sanctification. Our part is to want it, to acknowledge our need for it, and then launch out in obedience to God’s Word and the Holy Spirit, in faith that He who began a good work in us will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6).
