25.01.2022 As part of the Veritas House #FosterCareWeek celebrations, Billie Henderson and Mark Mason from Bathurst were today announced the recipients of the Deb Elsley Memorial Award. The award acknowledges the significant contribution that Billie and Mark have made in providing a safe and supportive home environment to children and young people in care, and assisting them to grow and develop in a happy and healthy way. Billie and Mark have been carers for many years, including the pa...st 6 years with Veritas House. In addition to being compassionate carers to some 17 children, Billie and Mark were selected for the award in recognition of their role in supporting other local foster carers, particularly new carers and those experiencing hardship. As a foster carer there are always lots of tears, but there are also always huge rewards, and that’s seeing a child safe, happy and healthy because of the love that you can provide them as a foster carer, said Billie. Veritas House remains in urgent need of a wide range of foster carers like Billie and Mark who can give a safe and loving home to children and young people in the local region, particularly sibling groups. 24.01.2022 For many young people being supported by Veritas, the cost of a mobile phone is unobtainable, however access to a phone can be critical for our caseworkers to maintain communication and check on their safety, particularly for young people in remote communities across the region. If you are upgrading your mobile phone and no longer need your old handset, please consider donating it to Veritas - we can assure you it will be gratefully received by its new owner!

22.01.2022 Ho Ho Ho! A belated thank you to all the staff at J.R. Simplot Company at Kelso for their generous donations which helped stock the pantry cupboards over the Christmas period for a number of young people who have transitioned from homelessness and are living independently in the Bathurst community.

21.01.2022 Thank you to the caring group of ladies from Year 9 at MacKillop College - Bathurst who delivered Share the Dignity bags to our Homelessness and Early Intervention services today. Many of the young people we support arrive at Veritas House with nothing, so each handbag containing personal care items will be greatly appreciated. Thank you ladies for sharing the true meaning of Christmas and wanting to support a local agency like Veritas with your donations.

21.01.2022 Thank you to the team from Century 21 Bathurst Region for the delivery of Christmas gifts today! While our children and young people in foster care will receive their gifts at our party this weekend, we still have a number of gift tags still on our trees to support children, young people and families from our other services. So if you havent had a chance, there is still time to drop into our offices and collect a tag.

20.01.2022 As we approach the Winter solstice and another cold weekend, we want to send a warm shout out to our very good friend Nicky, who has crocheted her way through a blanket for every bed at our youth refuge at Orange, and now almost completed every bed at our Bathurst refuge. Not only do they keep our residents toasty warm, it means the world to the young people and our staff knowing that a community member cares so much.

20.01.2022 A large number of Veritas staff have committed to completing 3,046 push-ups in 21 days (either individually or as a team) representing the number of people 3,046 lives lost to suicide in 2018. 17.01.2022 A massive thank you to Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia for their incredible generosity during the Bathurst 1000 weekend, donating meat, fish, bread, cheese and other food items for the young people and families supported by Veritas House. The freezers and pantries at our youth refuges, youth flats and in the homes of local families in need are now well stocked thanks to your generous donation.

14.01.2022 In the month of July, 10% of fees generated from any new and existing Wills, Power of Attorney or Enduring Guardian drafted at Kenny Spring Solicitors was donated to Veritas House through their annual Winter Wills initiative. As a result, the team from Kenny Spring brought a welcome reminder of winter to this hot, dry festive season when they presented Veritas with a cheque for $1000, which will be used to purchase Independent Living Packs containing cleaning products, house...hold items, basic toiletries and non-perishable food. The packs will be provided to local young people transitioning from crisis accommodation to independent living and will help reduce the financial impact associated with setting up a home for the first time. The packs become ever more important at a time like Christmas, and in light of the current drought conditions right across the region. Weve had close ties to the Kenny Spring team over the years and appreciate all they, and their clients do for our service. Thank you!

09.01.2022 Bernardis Bathurst has selected Veritas as one of the beneficiaries of their Building Better Communities Program! Every time a customer goes through the checkout they will be given a green token. The more tokens that are dropped into the Veritas House tub on the way out of the store, the greater our share of $5,000 that will be shared between three organisations in July. All of the funds we receive will support local young people transitioning from homelessness to live independently in the community, so please considering dropping your token in our tub next time you visit Bernardis!

08.01.2022 A big shout out to the inspiring Jada from Denison College - Bathurst High Campus who initiated and organised donations from her school community to support Veritas House, which were gratefully received by Mel from our Youth and Family Service. A big thank you to the entire school community that got behind this initiative. All of your donations will support local young people and families doing it tough this Christmas.

07.01.2022 While in lockdown, why not take the opportunity to clean out that drawer or cupboard and locate old mobile phone handsets that you no longer need and put them to good use? We are still in desperate need of handsets that we can provide to young people we are providing virtual services to, particularly in remote communities of Western NSW. Handsets can be dropped at our offices in Orange or Bathurst, or get in contact and we can arrange to collect them from your front doorstep. At times like these, we all need to do things that make ourselves feel good and help others, and this would achieve both!

Not only did they organise a very professional CSUSPA Red & Blue Ball held, but this very generous bunch of young people raised thousands on the night to support Veritas House (the team are still tallying the total but we will share once we know). Thank you to Jack and all of the organising committee members and all of the local businesses that supported this very fun night.

03.01.2022 Everyone is being told they should stay at home, but for many of the young people Veritas supports who are experiencing homelessness, home during Covid is a youth refuge or transitional accommodation. So we were pretty pumped today to receive our delivery of Sleep Kits thanks to Sheridan and our friends at StreetSmart Australia! Sleep Kits are manufactured by Sheridan using excess material and each kit contains a sheet set and towel. We will provide a kit to young people staying at our refuges so they can sleep in comfort while they stay with us and can take them with them when they leave.
