05.01.2022 So we had a pretty scary moment at the track Saturday night. My crew guy was putting fuel in the car and it just went up in flames. I had heard of this happenin...g before but never seen it first hand. Static electricity from the funnel or the car must of made a spark and ignited the fuel. I use the Jazz funnel with the stainless steel filter insert. I’ve used this funnel for quite a few years and this must of been just the one in a million chance. Luckily only some arm hairs were the damage. The whole deck was on fire because he threw the funnel out of the tank when it lit up. I threw a pit mat on the deck and grabbed a rag to put the lid back in the cell. I was scary for sure. The flames were up to the lift gate on the trailer. I know the outter wear filters used to do this. Anyone have any info or solutions? Maybe we need a ground strap on the funnel to the car with a alligator clip when we fuel? I know the chances of this happening are slim but don’t take the little things for Granted. I’ve repacked our to som people smarter than me to maybe figure something out but it sure could have been a bad deal. Feel like we got very lucky. See more
