Empowerment in the health care context means promoting autonomous self-regulation so that the individual’s potential for health and wellness is maximised. Patient empowerment begins with information and education and includes seeking out information about one’s own illness or condition, and actively participating in treatment decisions. Empowerment requires an individual to take care of one’s self and make choices about care from among the options and education provided by their health care practitioner.

08.01.2022 Therapist Spotlight: T E S S A I am an Occupational Therapist with experience in paediatrics, rehabilitation, ergonomics, community, aged care and veteran support. I have a particular interest in rehabilitation, Disaster Aid relief, Veterans and current serving members, and PTSD. I enjoy being outside in nature, spending time with family and friends, and learning new things! I always feel there is so much I want to do - and the trick is finding the time to do it all! I chose Occupational Therapy because I want to help people, I love problem solving and job diversity.
