25.01.2022 A local follower has generously offered the gift of a vacuum sealed half leg of ham. It can be collected from McKellar, alternatively delivery maybe possible in the Belconnen area. Please comment below if you are interested. Such a lovely gift.

25.01.2022 Street libraries aren't just about books or reading. They are also about community and building connections. So very happy to announce that the library is now a collection point for plastic bottle caps. As you have probably seen in the news, a charity in Victoria is recycling the caps and turning them into superhero prosthetic limbs for kids. So awesome. So please drop your bottle caps off in our bin pictured below, and we will get them to somewhere they can actually do some good.

24.01.2022 Come & find out more about street libraries this Saturday. We will be in area 3.

23.01.2022 We collect lids here at Bizzy Bee Street Library for Holden Rally Team - Lids4Kids. One of our lovely neighbours picked the lids up and washed them all! Gretta estimates that there is around 4,000 lids! We'll be taking the lids to The Fabulous Florey Community Fair next week so that Tim can use them at his Lids4Kids stand! Gretta mentioned that some lids were not the right type and some were deposited dirty so mould had formed. It is a good idea to wash your lids before dropping them off. A big thank you Gretta for her tremendous effort!

17.01.2022 IMPORTANT NOTICE It is times like this that community becomes even more important, therefore it is with much regret that we have decided to temporarily close the library. It is simply impossible to provide adequate infection control. The library will be emptied out & locked up as of this Sunday afternoon. It will be up & running again as soon as the COVID-19 crisis eases. At this stage the Little Green Food Pantry will remain open. However we would request the following:... *unopened packaged food only *wash your hands before & after using the pantry *wipe down all packages at home before using Plastic lid collection is also suspended. Could those local to the Belconnen/Florey area please share this post. Many thanks. Looking forward to seeing you back at the library later in the year. Rachael & Sharon

16.01.2022 This pretty Lil Street Library makes three for Hawker. With a degree in librarianship and a love for books, it was only a matter of time before Karen hosted a ...Lil Street Library of her own for her neighbourhood. The Mens Shed helped Karen put some new hinges on an old metal chest she already had and a talented friend painted the artwork for her. This LSL stocks books for all ages (early, young, teen and adult). Address: 7 Tanumbirini St Hawker #lilstreetlibraries #Canberra #Hawker

16.01.2022 In case you don't get time to read them all

16.01.2022 October 15th marks International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day - a special day to honour the babies and children who are no longer in our arms, and to... show support for all bereaved families who face this tragic loss. Every day in Australia, a baby is stillborn approximately every 4 hours. Thats 6 babies every day; 6 families with shattered hearts and broken dreams every single day. And it has been this way with no change for two decades now. Not to mention the stats becoming dramatically higher if you also include early pregnancy loss (miscarriage) or neonatal/infant death. On the evening of October 15, buildings and landmarks all around Australia and the world will be lit up in pink and blue to remember those babies gone too soon and pay our respects. Last year was Canberras first year participating and this year weve made it bigger and better. In conjunction with our friends at Pregnancy & Infant Loss Australia, this year weve organised the Telstra Tower, National Carillon and Kings Ave Bridge to beautifully light up Canberra in pink and blue. Wed love to capture as many amazing photos as we can next Tuesday night and show our support for local Canberra bereaved families. We hope to see many of you there! With awareness comes change and we hope this event can bring about some more change and support for Aussie families (images credit to Glenn Martin photography and Google)

12.01.2022 We're back!!! The library is open as of today. Please practise good hygiene by washing hands before & after using. The pantry has had a lot of use which is fantastic. But it means that stock is very low. Please consider popping an unopened package of in date food in there if you can. Please share this post so word gets out that we're open.

12.01.2022 Hello Florey Community, It's been a while since we posted. Rachael has been in Sydney having radiation, and Sharon has been very busy looking after a relative. But thanks to the generosity of the local community, the pantry & the library are full to overflowing. So please share this with your neighbours & local contacts. The library & the pantry are both accessible 24/7 in the front garden of 9 Boan Cl, Florey. We plan to put up a solar light in the next few weeks so that the...re will be better visibility at night. Everything in them is free! Our motto is: take what you need, leave what you can. All we ask is: Donated food items are unopened and in date COVID safe guidelines are followed ie sanitise hands before & after visiting, wipe items down before use Interested in setting up a pantry or library or both?! Inbox the page, we'd love to help you get started. Sharon & Rachael P.S. watch this space, the goal for 2021 is a plant library

09.01.2022 Fabulous dedication!

08.01.2022 Renee Thompson, owner of Hair Journey, Palmerston, was disappointed to discover that Palmerston was one of Canberra's 'have not' suburbs. (A suburb without a street library. ) So she grabbed a trolley from Target & sourced some books from Canberra Lil Street Libraries. And now has this cute little library trolley. Renee is hopeful that it will inspire a Palmerston resident to put a street library at their house & take Palmerston off the 'have not' list. Does your workplace need a little library trolley? #leaveabook #takeabook #shareabook

05.01.2022 This Little Free Library also has shelves to share plants! "My wife, Linda, gave me a Little Free Library for my 75th birthday. We have always been greatly int...erested in books and have belonged to various book clubs, haunted community libraries, and I once owned a used bookstore. We are also avid gardeners, so we wanted to broaden the community sharing aspects to include not only books but also plants. So when we built the structure to house our Library, it also included shelves to give away plants." - Mort Womack, volunteer steward of Little Free Library #65447 in Tucson, Arizona See more
