23.01.2022 Classes are starting again!

21.01.2022 Just don't seek from others, or you'll be far estranged from self. I now go on alone; everywehere I meet it. It now is me; I now am not it. ... Understanding this way, merging with it as it is. -Chan Master Dongshan Liangjie

20.01.2022 Today we visited Dharma Drum mountain monastery. Above the entrance to the great Buddha hall was written the words "Break Open the mountain." So I hope you break open wide your own inner mountain and see your true nature.

20.01.2022 I've built a grass hut where there's nothing of value. After eating, I relax and enjoy a nap. When it was completed, fresh weeds appeared. Now it's been lived in-covered by weeds. -Song of the Grass Hut... In the practice of meditation and Zen we create a space inner and outer where we are at ease without worries. But constantly wondering distractions arise like weeds and we have to accept them, recognising that in reality they are not separate from own own self. Thank you to Arno Hess of Pathway Zen to giving the talk today. Please contact this Facebook page or email [email protected] if you are interested in joining our Dharma talks and meditation on Zoom.

19.01.2022 Travelling monks report. Touring in Taipei Confucius Temple. The great philospher in Chinese history. " If there would have been no confucius, the history would have been like a long night."

He spent 6 years training with his teacher Zen Master Sen Shin in Brisbane during which time he completed many retreats and undertook kong an [koan/hwa to] study. Fo Xing Sifu also spent brief periods in both Korea and America engaging in further monastic training. During the past 20 years Fo Xing has been... focusing on deepening his practice while working in the community as a youth worker, child abuse investigator for family services and more recently since 2013 as a registered nurse. Fo Xing now resides at Bodhi Chan Meditation Centre full time as a resident monk. Fo Xing Shifu will be giving a talk on The Art of Intimacy and Chan Meditation tommorrow at 10am so feel free to come!

18.01.2022 Concentration and contemplation or samantha and vipsyana are the two primary aspects of meditation which are often seen to be separate. But in reality it is only when the mind is stilled in concentration that contemplation can rise, and contemplation is none other than being clearly aware of the process of concentration. Just as the in a turbid body of water as the water settles, dirt and dust naturally settles in the depth letting the clear still surface reflect whatever co...mes about. -From the first open Zoom meditation session Please email us at [email protected] to register for the class you are interested in joining us

17.01.2022 Ven. Hui Chuan will be giving the last talk of the year next Saturday 10am on the topic of the three stages in Zen or Chan practice. Please join us if you can make it! These three stages can be described using two different ways using the analogy of mountains or the application of wisdom. First Mountains are just mountains and rivers are just rivers, the second stage is that mountains and rivers are no longer mountains and rivers, the final part is when mountains and rivers remain as just mountains and rivers. The second way of expressing it in wisdom is through knowing: First the application of knowing is known, then the unknown is known, and finally wisdom is revealed to know yet have no knowing.

16.01.2022 Travelling monks report. Visit Nung Chan temple in Taipei. The pool is like a mirror, reflecting myriad changes in the winds, clouds, the sky at sunset, and the moonlight, showing its fascinating facets while reminding people to contemplate on how worldly affairs are as transient as the ephemeral water-borne images, and therefore practice letting go without attachment.

09.01.2022 Koans are recorded stories of ancient Chan/Zen masters who expressed their awakening in seemingly meaningless interactions. And when we practice with these koans we arent seeking to solve a puzzle they left behind but rather we are trying to enter the mind state and embody the realisation of the past masters during such interactions. Zen Teacher Arno Hess left us with this Koan today: Guishan asked Yangshan: "Where are you coming from?"... Yangshan replied: "From the fields." Guishan asked: "How many people are there in the fields?" Yangshan planted his hoe in the ground, clasped his hands and stood there. Guishan said, "On South Mountain there are a lot of people cutting thatch." Yangshan took up his hoe and went. Feel free to share your thoughts!

09.01.2022 In meditation we can take the two approaches of effort and effortless. First we begin with effort filled mindfulness before moving to the effortless awareness of the present moment. The same applies to regular life there must be a balance and integration of both into effortless effort. #brisbane #meditation #zen #bodhichan #brisbanemeditationclass #Buddhism

08.01.2022 Just dont seek from others, or youll be far estranged from self. I now go on alone; everywehere I meet it. It now is me; I now am not it. ... Understanding this way, merging with it as it is. -Chan Master Dongshan Liangjie

07.01.2022 "All beings by nature are Buddha, as ice by nature is water; apart from water there is no ice, apart from beings no Buddha." Fish swimming in water dont know the nature of water as theyve never experienced anything else, just as people dont realise their true nature is constantly with them but do not realise it. -Talk from Zen teacher Daehang last Saturday and Hakuins Zazen Wasan

05.01.2022 Will this hut perish or not? Perishable or not, the original master is present, Not dwelling south or north, east or west. Firmly based on steadiness, it cant be surpassed. - Song of the Grass Hut... The hut or base of meditation we build once established may or may not fall away but once a firm foundation is there and we recognise the original master our true nature no matter where we go our base comes with us. It no longer matters whether or not we actively create a physical or mental space to rest in as we recognise that we are our true selves anywhere. 05.01.2022 Intimacy is vital to life and meditation where we connect with our breath, then connect in awareness with our entire body using that as our primary point leading to insight into inter-being, impermanence, and various truths of this very instant that have been lost as weve forgotten the intimacy between ourselves and the present moment. -Foxing Shifu
