24.01.2022 Rarely do I hear about someone doing a great "neck session" at the gym, which is probably a good thing. However, if suffering from neck pain, it is possible that there is an imbalance in either your neck musculature or somewhere further down the chain (scapula, thoracic region etc) There is some quality evidence suggesting that both neck and scapula exercises, combined with manual therapy is effective at combating chronic neck pain. ... Where I start people with recovery is to do both range of motion and strength testing (seen in photo) and test their response to manual therapy.

23.01.2022 Effects of Habitual Physical Activity on Cardiovascular Risk Small amounts of physical activity, such as standing versus sitting, reduce cardiovascular risk. Cardiovascular risk falls progressively with increasing physical activity until approximately 9.1 hours per week of moderate-intensity activity, such as brisk walking. After this level of exertion, there appears to be little additional benefit. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25844730

16.01.2022 Sprint Interval Training Like many of you I love to run. Recently I completed a half marathon with friends and realised that I do not particularly enjoy running long distances. I much prefer to run a fast (by my standards) 5-km or go down to the oval and perform a series of sprints at submaximal intensity. I’m now varying my running schedule to include different distances, intensities and intensity patterns within a session. For those of you looking to improve your 5-km time... trial, you may wish to consider throwing in some sprint interval training (SIT) to break up the monotony. Not only could this reduce the mileage on your body for a period, it may help develop speed, improving your ability to kick at the end of races. The two studies I’ve looked through below suggest that 3 SIT sessions per week, involving up to 8 repetitions of maximal 30 second efforts, is likely to improve your endurance capacity over a 5-km distance. Shoot me a message if you’d like to discuss this in detail. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5839711/#R12 https://journals.lww.com//Four_Weeks_of_Sprint_Interval_Tr

13.01.2022 Taking Craig through a few exercises to build overall strength and resilience to particular bending movements he's developed apprehension towards. We ended up 'regressing' this exercise to a set up with a couple of power bands to help home focus on the hip folding & drive (hip extension) aspect of this movement. Thanks @xcellhealthandfitness for letting us go through some rehab in your great facilities .
