24.01.2022 Well its that time of year again. Now is the time to start preparing your property for the bushfire season it is just around the corner. With the current COVID conditions CFA have set up a free advice program over the phone. You can ask any to prepare yourself for a bushfire.

24.01.2022 UPDATE 1.00pm Tues 21 Jan 2020 With our crews working hard to assess and clear roads across Gippsland, its disappointing to hear reports of drivers speeding th...rough areas where crews are still working on roadsides. This poor driver behaviour is dangerous for our crews, who are already working in hazardous conditions to make roads safe for community access. If you are moving through these areas, do not stop or get out of your vehicle, and stick to the open roads and speed limits. Bairnsdale Dargo Road Closure The road closure will begin from the Bairnsdale Dargo Road at Hunters Corner near Wallers Road intersection through to Dargo and will be closed from 7am Thursday 23rd Jan, and will remain closed until 7am Tuesday 28th Jan. While weve seen a lot of rainfall across fire grounds in the Dargo and surrounding landscape, fires are still actively spotting and pose a risk to life and property. Road Status Updates - Great Alpine Road between Bruthen and Ensay: has REOPENED to residents and permit holders. Speed restrictions are in place as the road is slippery and crews are still on site. Thanks to Regional Roads Victoria for support to clear debris. - Bonang and Monaro Highways: remain CLOSED with significant impact to roads requiring assessment. - Princes Highway between Orbost and Cann River: access for residents and permit holders only between 8am and 8pm today. Emergency services will continue to monitor roads and streams over the coming days. Thank you to motorists who are helping our crews work safely by driving to conditions. 19.01.2022 BREAKING: Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has declared a State of Disaster for six local government areas and alpine resorts as the states bushfire crisis c...ontinues. Details: http://7news.link/yLwjda Victorian Government statement: "Premier Daniel Andrews has declared a State of Disaster for six Local Government Areas and the Alpine Resorts, after considering advice from the Minister for Police and Emergency Services and the Emergency Management Commissioner. The Premier is satisfied there is an emergency that constitutes, or is likely to constitute, a significant and widespread danger to life or property in the following part of Victoria: East Gippsland Shire Mansfield Shire Wellington Shire Wangaratta Rural Shire Towong Shire Alpine Shire Mount Butler Mount Hotham Mount Stirling Alpine Resorts Conditions are expected to deteriorate from tomorrow and the Governments priority is the safety of Victorians. A state of disaster: May be declared to exist in the whole, or parts, of Victoria Exists immediately upon the making of the declaration and remains in force for one month (unless another declaration is made) Can be revoked or varied by the Premier at any time. The declaration gives the Government, through the Minister for Emergency Services, the powers and resources it needs to keep Victorians safe. Examples of the Ministers broad power to direct and allocate government resources include: Directing any government agency to do, or refrain from doing, any function, power, duty, or responsibility Declaring that the operation of an Act or subordinate instrument is suspended, if compliance by a government agency with that legislation would inhibit response to or recovery from the disaster Take possession and make use of any persons property to respond to the disaster Controlling movement in and out of the disaster area and Compelling the evacuation of persons from the disaster area or any part of it. This is the first time the Victorian Government has used these powers since they were included in the Emergency Management Act 1986 following the devastating Victorian Bushfires in 2009. Dealing with the immediate aftermath of the fires while many fires continue to burn across the state is a significant challenge that involves all levels of government. The Government has already established a Bushfire Response and Recovery Taskforce to support communities and help them rebuild from the devastating fires still burning in the east of the state." www.7NEWS.com.au #7NEWS

05.01.2022 With fire season rapidly approaching, it’s time to start getting your property ready. This should also include how easily it would be for the Fire Tanker to access your property should it be needed.

04.01.2022 When was the last time you walked in your driveway and looked up and sideways?? Will a Fire Truck fit? Timely reminder that if we can’t see a clear way in and a safe turn around point we may not enter. This is for our own crews safety we must have an escape route. ... To avoid this please check trees and bushes and trim them back, your gateways need to be wide enough too. We have a range of sizes in our area and we want all of us to fit, to help you if you are in a need of our assistance in an emergency. Here is a guide to help.

03.01.2022 DAYLIGHT SAVINGS ENDS SUNDAY MORNING. Change your CLOCKS CHANGE YOUR BATTERIES. A reminder to check your smoke alarms.... Please Make Sure your alarms are in working order before Daylight Saving ends this Sunday. How to test your smoke alarm Did you know that of the 560 fatal house fires we’ve responded to in the last 10 years, almost half of them started in either the bedroom or living room? It pays to check and test. Test your smoke alarm batteries every month by pressing and holding the test button until the smoke alarm beeps three times. Clean your smoke alarms every year by dusting, vacuuming or gently wiping around the cover to clean it so it will sound if there is smoke. If you have 9-volt batteries in smoke alarms, the batteries must be replaced every year. All smoke alarm units (including those attached to mains power) should be replaced every 10 years, and it is best to replace with hard-wired, interconnected smoke alarms. Otherwise, replace your smoke alarms with a unit that has a tamper-proof chamber and 10-year lithium battery. Smoke alarms should be installed on the ceiling at least 30cm from the wall. Smoke alarms should be installed in every living area and bedroom. Smoke alarms should be interconnected so that when any alarm activates, all smoke alarms will sound. Remember that house fires can happen to anyone, any time. Only working smoke alarms can save lives.
