25.01.2022 Got to love the Squirrel Gliders in nest boxes on the farm. Lots of nest boxes now and most are used by Gliders

25.01.2022 Easy to see the iomportance of big hollows in the old trees as we snapped this huge owl in the hollow in an old redgum near the Floating Lodge. Just on dusk so hard to get a good photo.

24.01.2022 Very proud of my girl who spends 25 years growing the trees - then saws them up for me so I can complete timber projects like this. Railings like this come from the B grade logs

24.01.2022 This old fellow has taken up residence just out the front

24.01.2022 Squirrel Gliders returning home to their nest box after a night out feeding. Captured with our motion sensing night video camera. We have more than a dozen nest boxes around the farm and now they are nearly all being used by gliders - many with babies.

22.01.2022 Been a busy week for wildlife assistance. Early in the week tenants brought up a huge turtle with a fish hook stuck deep in its throat - so we took it to the vet who had to xray it. Thanks again to the local vets who do all this work without any charge. Then a couple of days ago more tenants arrived with this duckling which was floating off down the river on its own - obviously misplaced from the family brood. Pip now has it feeding and takes it out to the garden pond for a regular swim

21.01.2022 Great work by Rutherglen Landcare. More to come hopefully

20.01.2022 Picking up some new geese to diversify the gene pool of the Brimin Lodge flock.

20.01.2022 Pip busy with her new sawmill

19.01.2022 Lots of smoke and heat in recent weeks has not slowed the Grey Fantails down. These young hatched today and are the third clutch that this pair have successfully bred since the spring. What a beautiful nest.

18.01.2022 Project complete. Bit of a tidy up for the front entrance.

18.01.2022 Off goes a load of teff hay to the shed.

16.01.2022 Give this girl a chainsaw and her new buggy and she will always have a smile

16.01.2022 Checking the teff to see how the seed is developing. What an amazing plant. More than 2 months since this was watered and many days of 35 to 40 degrees. I think it loves our heavy soils. Hopefully windrowed and harvested in a couple of weeks.

16.01.2022 What a beautiful time of year at the Billabong Lodge. Great views from the kitchen and bedroom windows or on the front and back decks.

14.01.2022 One of the highlights for 2017 was having the mobile sawmill come to Brimin Lodge and saw up a lot of fallen redgum. He also sawed the first of our plantation grown timber which we painted on the ends so we could tell which planks came from which logs. All now racked out to dry and then we will be able to determine the quality for speciality timber flooring, furniture etc.

14.01.2022 How is this for cockatoos? Not hard to work out why the Cockies clean up all our walnuts and almonds and do so much damage to crops when they are like this on the neighbours paddock at crop stubble time. Took this video last summer. What will they be like in another 10 years???

14.01.2022 One of the most extraordinary things I have ever found. Blown down out of a medium sized eucalyptus yesterday is this birds nest. On initial inspection it looked large but ordinary. Then when I turned it over - (photo 2) I realised that the bird had weaved many scraps of wire together for the base.. Short pieces of plain, barbed and insulated wire. Especially amazing as I go to a fair bit of trouble to make sure I never leave scraps of wire about. Any suggestions what type of bird could achieve that?

11.01.2022 When you have to carry your own tolet paper

11.01.2022 Teff hay now available in rolls or small square bales. Red or white teff available. Ideal horse feed. Say goodbye to laminitis in your horses by feeding teff hay. Send a message for pricing and special deals on rolls.

11.01.2022 So hard to believe this is April 2020. Need some photos just to remind ourselves what the perfect Autumn can look like. Usually hot dry and dusty here at Brimin in April. This is self sown Triticale.

10.01.2022 Getting the silage in the bale and all wrapped up

10.01.2022 The red browed finches sure love the teff seed Pip puts out for them.

09.01.2022 Great evening for burning "slash" under some of the plantation trees. Good to have it cleaned up before the dry weather brings on the fire season.

09.01.2022 Easy way to load. So different for those of us who can remember picking up every bale by hand.

08.01.2022 Baling up more red teff hay. Such a simple machine makes the job so much easier.

08.01.2022 New Grass Grabber for harvesting native Kangaroo grass seed

07.01.2022 Better to be safe than sorry when you go for a ride. Can never be sure what the public conveniences will have in stock!!

07.01.2022 Cleaning red teff seed ready for sowing later in the year when the soil temperature heats up. Ended up with a few hundred kgs from last seasons first harvest

06.01.2022 Love our the "new" windrower (1960s model New Holland) for cutting the teff crop ready to harvest seed.

05.01.2022 More proof of how important the old trees are with hollows. This young dollar bird was waiting for a feed from Mum (or Dad) as we were working close by today. Hard to keep Pip focused on the fencing job!!!

04.01.2022 Another Covid job ticked off the list. Built a new bike trailer from scrap around the farm - to replace the old one that had rusted right away after 28 years.

04.01.2022 Baling teff hay. Bring on the horse owners who want quality hay for their horses.

03.01.2022 A couple of plantation grown Camden White Gum trees grown at Brimin Lodge waiting for a trial sawing

03.01.2022 Great to have perfect weather for baling up beautiful, soft TEFF hay just as the horse owners are getting enthusiastic about the nutrient benefits of Teff for their animals. Large and small lots available. Rutherglen area North East Victoria.

02.01.2022 We suggested to the River authorities that a bit of erosion control would be a good idea - after some very successful rock work done 15 years ago. Suddenly the trucks started rolling in and now there is more than 600 tons of rock in this huge pile waiting to be carefully meshed into the riverbanks where the erosion is bad.

01.01.2022 Sowing native grass seed before the rain.

01.01.2022 Some years things just go right and the rain comes at all the right times. Faba Beans are generally considered OK if they get to just over your knees!!!! And yes - I am standing upright
