25.01.2022 E x a m S t r e s s ‘Tapping’ or EFT (Emotion Freesom techniques) for exam stress ... I use tapping with teens to support them through times a academic stress. So lets see what Dr Peta Stapleton, Australian Psychologist of the year (2019) & EFT researcher, has to say about the possible impacts tapping can have on students: Daily tapping potentially supports the development of: Better focus and concentration, An increased sense of calm for students, Decreased stress and anxiety, fear of failure and procrastination, Improved impulse control, Increased self-awareness, Skilful responses to difficult emotions and expression of emotions in a self-empowered way, Increased empathy and understanding of others, Natural conflict resolution skills, and Improved academic performance for examinations and assignments. Daily tapping practice gives students the opportunity to settle and calm themselves and develop focus. It may help them manage difficult thoughts and emotions. Tapping creates space, changing impulsive reactions to thoughtful responses. Students may find it easier to get along with their peers and choose kindness and optimism. You can access ‘Tapping’/EFT sessions with me at the clinic Call us at the clinic for more information Sources: https://petastapleton.com/tapping-in-schools/ https://evidencebasedeft.com https://bond.edu.au//high-school-students-tap-success-exam

My amazing virtual assistant has partnered us up with @Novopsych & Snapforms This means most forms and questionnaires can now be completed via these paperless services, on your computer or touchscreen devices. There will be the occasional paper form at this point. But we are pretty excited to take the next step in eliminating paper waste at the clinic space Yay! #values #ecofriendly #environment #organised #care #environment #nextlevel

21.01.2022 Resourcing with EMDR This process is about accessing internal resources, strengths, and positive memories basically to tap into the goodness in your life. In EMDR resourcing, we use some form of slow bilateral stimulation (eye movements) which helps to engage and soothe the nervous system while strengthen the memory or resource being activated. EMDR Resourcing is almost always described by clients as calming, peaceful, relaxing, enlightening, and even fun. ... In the resourcing process, we do not bring up trauma memories. This may come later in the EMDR process, if a client chooses to explore it. Source- http://www.phoenixtraumacenter.com

20.01.2022 I have almost no childhood memories. Most of my adult life (before my own healing journey began) is hazy memories at best. It wasn’t until I had partners who po...inted this out to me that I realized it fully. I would run through my life + wonder, ‘Why don’t I remember anything?’ In pure transparency, there was a time when I wondered if I had been sexually assaulted or had some other severe trauma that gave me this lack of memory. This is part of my own conditioning as a psychologist I believed something big must have happened to cause memory lapses. What I would come to understand on my journey was that I began dissociating (physically being present, but mentally I was gone) since I was a child. Because my mom could not connect with me emotionally, it was a protection mechanism. There was also anxiety, chaos, + health crises without adults to model how to process them. Memories are formed through safe, secure attachment + nurturing. Something many of us don’t have access to. So dissociation became a coping mechanism. I was always on autopilot, unconscious, never present, always distracted, always running scenarios in my head this is the brains way of protecting us against future pain. I’ve used meditation, breathwork, + movement daily for years to break the pattern of dissociating. Being present has allowed me to have the safety to create memories. Even having them is a personal victory for me. If you do not have memories, understand this is a normal, protective human response. Healing does not require us to re-gain memories, + we don’t need to pinpoint the exact reason they don’t exist. What we can do is relearn nervous system safety in the present moment + have an understanding that we we don’t remember is for our own protection #selfhealers

18.01.2022 I spent most of yesterday watching cheesy Christmas love movies. Which of course inspired this post. The collective message around love, relationships, + commit...ment is rooted in unrealistic expectations. Fantasy. And self sacrifice as love. When we are children, our parent-figures are responsible for meeting all of our physical, emotional, + spiritual needs. Most of us were raised by wounded parents who didn’t have access to any information on how to actually meet those needs especially emotional needs. When these emotional needs aren’t met in childhood, they don’t just go away. We become desperate to have them met in another adult. We project these unmet needs (unconsciously) onto our romantic partners. This is why so many of us want to be fix, saved, or rescued by our partners. This is why so many of us betray ourselves or enable another person just so that we aren’t abandoned. This is why so many of us believe in the illusion of happily ever after: we want the unconditional love we didn’t experience as children. As we heal, adult relationships stop becoming childhood re-enactments + they evolve to safe spaces of mutual evolution. We no longer place the pressure of our partner meeting all of our needs, reading our minds, or sacrificing partner of themselves in order to ‘make’ us happy. We allow another person (+ ourself) freedom, self expression, clear boundaries, + curiosity rather than judgment. The things we all (at our core) so desperately want from another + most of us have never received. This is the work #selfhealers

13.01.2022 ‘ Making Space ’ What does it mean to make space for something in our minds and bodies? For me, it’s a balance of awareness, curiosity, acceptance, connection to energy and blockages in my body. Allowing my breath to shift and move tensions or sensation. ... Allowing my body to find a calm and secure place.

10.01.2022 P a r e n t h o o d Some days I get it horribly wrong as a parent. Maybe I react to my own frustration at the situation, or wish I didn’t have to manage this as I have a million other things to get done. Regardless, when I parent from reactions, and not mindful responses, it feels horrible for all involved. Tonight was NOT one of those nights (thank goodness!).... I stayed calm, validated and supported my eldest child in regulating some huge emotions (regarding some melted ice cream ) I maintained kind and appropriate boundaries with her, spoke calmly as I reinforced the outcomes of her choices, I validated that this can feel ‘yuck’. I gave her essential oils for her body and sat patiently whilst she expressed more emotions, reminding her ‘I am here, I can see this is tough for you’. I offered to use EFT/Tapping to calm her brain and body, and she accepted. I watched as slowly but surely her body movements eased and screaming reduced, we finally reached a space of calm and connected again. Parenthood can be tough! (Childhood also!) Let’s celebrate when a parent and child can navigate this huge stuff together. No yelling, no shame and no power plays. If only I could pull this off everytime Parenthood - a work in progress

04.01.2022 Your vagus nerve, also known as the 10th cranial nerve, is one of your most important nerves in the body. It is also the longest nerve in your autonomic nervous... system that extends from your brain stem through your neck into your chest and abdomen. While we refer to them together as ‘the vagus nerve,’ there are actually two vagus nerves, one on the left and one on the right. Vagus is latin for wandering, which appropriately describes the nerve. Your vagus nerve is critical for many functions of our physiology. It connects our brain to our gut. It carries important sensory and motor information. Our vagus nerve supplies innervation to our major blood vessels, heart, lungs, airways, stomach, esophagus, and intestines. It helps to regulate our heart rate, digestion, blood pressure, sweating, and speech, among other areas of your health. By controlling the muscles of your throat and voice box, it plays an important role of speaking and eating. It also helps your entire gastrointestinal tract working together, regulating your heart rate, and connecting your brain to the rest of your body. . . #neuroscience

03.01.2022 C o p i n g B e h a v i o u r s Thank our coping behaviors for keeping us safe when needed , and sit with a knowing that sometimes they can send a false alarm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~... Coping behaviours aim to keep us safe, when we are in unsafe environments. At the same time our coping behaviours can keep us isolated/detached from ourselves, others & the world... Healing stress/trauma means we can trust our mind and body to keep us safe, when needed. And that our mind and body can learn to sit in a secure, connected and social space when it’s safe to do so.
