25.01.2022 From this morning at Manari Corner. The 5th anniversary of Black Tuesday.

24.01.2022 Community calls on Premier to stop wasting taxpayer money Broome community members are calling on the Premier to abandon his continuing quest to get approvals for gas refineries at James Price Point on the Kimberley coast. The James Price Point gas refinery proposal was dumped by Woodside and its joint venture partners in 2013 because of the high cost and controversy surrounding the project.... Despite there being no proponents for gas refineries at James Price Point, the WA Premier continues to push for environmental approvals at a tremendous waste of taxpayer money and at a time when state debt is reaching record levels, said Jan Lewis, spokesperson for the Broome Community No Gas Campaign. The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) approval of gas refineries and a port was found to be unlawful in 2012 after a court challenge, however the Department of State Development (DSD) pursued a second assessment which was approved by the EPA in 2014. This second approval was appealed by a number of groups and individuals and the appeals are now being heard in Broome by the Office of the Appeals Convenor who will be reminded of all the reasons the project should not proceed dinosaur footprints, humpback whales, monsoon vine thickets, bilbies and turning Broome into a mining town. The cost of the Appeals Committee, flying people up here, getting the EPA and DSD to respond to appellants is such a big waste of time and money, these resources could be much better spent looking after the environment instead, said Ms Lewis. It’s ridiculous that this is being pursued when no company in their right mind would risk their corporate reputation by trying to industrialise such a sensitive site on the Kimberley coast. "The campaign against the proposed LNG gas plant at James Price Point on the Kimberley coast was one of the most extraordinary fights in support of environmental and community values in Australian history. Aboriginal people, environmentalists, business people and ordinary citizens took on global capital, government and vested interests to defend their country and way of life". Kindly share this event.

20.01.2022 It's really exciting that this research is finally published. Also that 6 of the new ichnotaxa are named after local Broome people. The extent and diversity of tracks and trackways is globally significant. The Broome coastline is a treasure we have been advocating for and hope to protect for a long time to come.

18.01.2022 Remember to get along to this this evening.

05.01.2022 Hi all. Just a heads up to let you know that Damian Kelly's fantastic book 'James Price Point, the story of a movement' is available through EK. Do yourselves a favour.

05.01.2022 ACTION ON FRIDAY. PLEASE SHARE. Hi No Gassers And we thought it was all over!!... But believe it or not, the James Price Point proposal is still being pushed by the government and Premier Barnett. This week the EPA Appeals Committee is in Broome to hear from those who appealed the second decision by the EPA delegates (remember the first one was found invalid in the courts after being challenged by Richard Hunter and the Wilderness Society) to approve gas refineries on our coast. The community isn’t aware of this ongoing push by the government and we’re keen to get the message out. The Appeals Committee visited James Price Point yesterday with the Department of State Development as part of the assessment. We can’t believe this is still happening after Woodside and its partners dumped the James Price Point option. The only other big player in the Browse Basin is ConocoPhillips and we know they wouldn’t want to risk their corporate reputation by even thinking about coming here. As far as we’re concerned this is a big waste of taxpayers money at a time when the WA government is deep in debt the EPA staff responding to the appeal, the Department of State Development responding to the appeals, an Appeals Committee set-up to make recommendations to the Minister for the Environment, the Minister for the Environment’s office preparing recommendations to the Minister and the Minister making a decision. After this, the Commonwealth Minister for the Environment and Energy, Josh Frydenberg must make a decision. All this when there are no companies that want to build gas refineries anywhere near our precious Kimberley coast! We’re organising an action in Broome THIS FRIDAY MORNING to get the message out there that there are more urgent priorities for government funding than pursuing Premier Barnett's unrealistic dream of industrialising our coast. If you’re in Broome, please come along to Town Beach at 8.15am this Friday for a photo - we need to get the media interested in this ridiculous waste of time and money.
